A new Platform [Intro post~ August]

For those on the Train

"Good morning passengers, it is day sixteen of the month of Apple." The train announces as always as everyone wakes up the morning of the sixteenth. "Due to your success on Hub World #5739 your team points have been updated on the system. The on train shop has unlocked new stock."

For those going to investigate it might seem like the boredom of the last two weeks will be alleviated a little. More so after a few hours when there is a second announcement.

"Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. Exit from void imminent."

By now they should know to hold on as the train jerks and jolts. There is only fog outside the windows but the train soon comes to a stop. The doors hiss open.

As they exit into the fog they may notice Hibiki exiting from the luggage carriage door. She hasn’t been seen since the Hub World and they might be forgiven for believing she stayed behind. But here she is, backpack on her back as she walks through the station. She heads no call, reacts to no words and cannot be stopped as she walks to the ticket barrier and disappears through it.

It is impossible to follow. But you soon may be distracted because this platform is far from empty.

For new arrivals

At first all you can see if steam. Billowing around you as you come to your senses. You are standing, in clothes that are not your own, styles you might not even recognise. You are carrying a rucksack on your back. For a moment it seems to just be you, alone in the white haze but then the steam begins to fade and you realise you aren’t alone.

The platform is not very large, but it hold twelve figures all facing the tracks, all wearing similar clothing, even if one of them is a spider. The tracks stretch left and right into steam, or perhaps fog. Nothing can be seen to either side. There is a wall around the platform and the only entrance is a ticket barrier. It cannot be open, nor do there seem to be any staff.

What there is, is a train. Jet black and gleaming where it stands on the rails.Voidtrecker Express is emblazoned in the engine in gold. There is a hiss as the doors slide open.

Out step a selection of people, wearing clothes just like yours.

The Train

The doors hiss open. Those from the train may encourage those on the platform to board. It’s not like there is anywhere else to go and even if there was, you feel a pull. A need to board, a feeling that staying on the platform would not be a good thing.

Once on the train there is plenty to explore. A new sleeper carriage has appeared as has a medical bay. Neither were there before those already on the train had disembarked to meet their new travelling companions.

Each ICP shows the same message. The food stores have been topped up with new fresh food, though it seems that eggs are still predominately on the menu.

New passengers will find their tickets allow them into their cabins. They may need to negotiate for beds, especially if they want a top bunk!

Room is tight but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches and you will hopefully find a pillow for your bed if it has not been nabbed by a roommate, there are also spare blankets for if it gets cold.

Departure

A second horn sounds to encourage any stragglers and the doors slide shut. Those who boarded two weeks ago will know what is coming next.

The train sets off, the fog obscuring the view as it picks up speed.

"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express." A female-coded artificial sounding voice echoes throughout the train. "Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."

The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog filled sky.

"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated."

Hopefully someone warns you that you really want to heed that warning because a moment later there is a shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding.

As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever changing colours.

Welcome to voidspace.

Peter's not concerned about Charlotte hurting him-his spideysense isn't going off and she said she wouldn't hurt anyone as long as they didn't try to hurt her. Which is fair, Peter thinks, because she's a giant Spider. But she's also a nice spider that gave him a gift because he didn't have webs. And she was scared when he first found her so he's just not that threatened by her.

Peter tries to pull his arm free and frowns, still caught upside down which doesn't really bother him that much-he spends a lot of time upside down these days.

"Whoa, dude. Offensive, much? Charlotte has feelings too, you know. And she's been here since the last stop. Mr Stark made her promise not to hurt anyone. And yeah, she's my friend-I'm part spider now so she's my spider-pal. Also.." He starts giggling again.

"Spider-Man is caught in Charlotte's web!" He's now out and out laughing.

"It was an interesting fight, based on the rumor. What I gathered from the people I tended to be around there was a machine that was from far away and it essentially put on a tournament with beings from other worlds." She crossed her arms, trying to recall what all she'd heard. "One of these beings was rumored to be an actual train. There was another that was a jester as well." She straightened up and gave a small shrug.

"I don't know what a 'video' game is, but it does sound like some fantasy that kids may take to." Not that adults couldn't play games in Eorzea, but they definitely weren't a 24 year old sitting in front of a computer trying to make it for raid time or anything. More of a triple triad type setting.

"Yes, though I am beginning to think being here is not all that impressive." Recounting the rumors of the adventures the Warriors have been on it really felt that this was not so impressive. There were much newer rumors from Ironworks that the Warriors even disappeared and haven't been found - traveling in this manner seemed to be a little too close to her. "Who brought us and why they did is more important than how they did it, I think."

"We make time." To judge by his smile, they made enough time to stay happy with each other. After all, life couldn't constantly be war, primal-slaying, and trivial errands from random people in towns. Though Dread lifted his shoulders after that, and added, "Plenty of it here, honestly. The train takes long enough to travel that the hours need to be filled."

"Is it actually a cat?" was Dread's first question. He suspected she might be using the term for convenience's sake, but Dread had dealt with all sorts of creatures in his time, and was prepared to hear about more. In fact, given her description, he was certain that this creature absolutely was not a cat...

"He called me a menace once. It was really rude but like my fan following jumped on that real quick." One good thing about the age of social media is that his fans will stick up for Spider-Man the moment someone says something bad about him.

"Oh yeah-and I have-had a solvent so I got him free really easy but I still felt bad gave him a packet of my sour gummie worms." He had two and well, he really shouldn't have assumed but he was being shady about it.

"Really? I mean there are people like Secretary Ross that seems to hate enhanced people-but no slurs really. There's also not that many, I don't think."

Renee gave Pete a dry look at that. "You? A menace? Dude doesn't know you, pal--I don't think you could be a menace if you tried. There's a sweet and kind heart under that nerdy exterior--your heart will always come from the right place."

That's a compliment, Pete. Renee knows she's comparatively not so nice, but she accepts that.

"There were quite a few where I came from--well, at least before M-Day. My two brothers and I were all mutants, but Drew--he's my older brother--he lost his powers during M-Day, and they never came back. So he went to college while he was in prison and he's a video game designer, now." She kind of wished she had some sort of ambition to do something with himself like he had. Or the talent to do like Todd had and go into hockey. No such luck.

"The ninja arts are comprehensive! Martial arts and weapons training are just one facet of our skill. We're trained in infiltration, stealth, and deception, as well as the sacred art of ninjutsu!" And philosophy and so forth, but that was a lot less important in Edge's view.

Conan understood maybe half of that. Although it was becoming more and more apparent that Mr. Stark had been right about the multiple worlds issue.

"I won't! Everyone looks tall to me."

Which was one of his great annoyances. He hadn't been terribly tall as a teenager, but he'd still been nearly twice the height he was now. These days even the other boys in first grade were taller than he was.

He could go over all the other possibilities for code communication, but if she didn't know the most common one, the odds or low that she'd be familiar with the others.

A very large pair of tongs were prominently featured in the collection, along with a number of scooping tools and a very large trash can.

Ohhh no, not another tournament style challenge...not that Renee had ever taken part in one of those things herself, but she'd heard enough about that sort of thing from the older X-Men. Why was it that aliens seemed to love, even crave, seeing humans fight in matches like that?

Renee didn't get it.

"It was more my brother's type of thing anyway. A game played on a video screen, with a controller." She made a mime of doing such a thing. "I don't think they have those here, and I probably wouldn't play them anyway..." Partly because the memories were a bit of a sore spot.

Ash had a point. "Yeah, it's sort of boring to be here, that's true..." She furrowed her brows at that and frowned. "Then again, getting the answers to that doesn't seem like it'll be easy. Everyone I've met so far is in the same situation we are, and I haven't seen the conductor, or even a place where we might see him or her..."

"See, you understand. That is why this is so strange." Which it certainly was. The Warrior of Light was unlikely to turn down a cry for aid, as well--in Sarai's case, it was completely against her nature to ignore someone in need.

"It is. And none of us know how to get out of it, and now, you've been drawn into it as well. That far, you have my apologies." Sarai gave Edge a slight bow, polite as ever. She knew it wasn't her fault, this train and its strangeness, and yet she felt as if she ought to apologize anyway. So she did.

Sneaking and lying sounded her type of training. She tilted her head, curious that he speaks about it so openly. Maybe she had been too hasty to dismiss him as a hero of the dark.

"What do ninjutsu be being? Where do you be training? Have you been training all your life?"

She has a lot of questions. More than she can ask, she still has to be careful. She doesn't know about his world. Arts of infiltration and deception sound chaos god following but it's not exactly something you ask about openly, not if you are smart, not if you want to live.

"Well, I can certainly make an attempt, when next we stop in a place that has wood. The limb I brought with me from Ciyesia, I've been carving into a cane." Mostly so she could use conjury again, and maybe help Lightning with a bit of healing magic...

Sarai's brow furrowed a bit at that. "It is...difficult to say. My world has undergone a number of tumultuous upheavals that we call Calamities...and often times, lore gets lost along the way. It's been said that Hydaelyn seeded this star with life, and set herself against the Moon, Zodiark, who wishes to destroy all life. 'Tis also said that She has twelve who aid her in her time of need, and those are the gods that we spoken races worship--but the beast tribes have primals also, who are their gods. So there is not a terribly cohesive myth I may tell you." But she'd tried, so Sarai hardly feels guilty about making an attempt.

Though she falls speechless in delight and amazement once Maglor begins to play--likely she does see the images, though the Au Ra would be hard pressed to say if it were due to his skilled playing, or the capriciousness of the Echo she possesses--but the images are likely not from his own memory, but his world's or his music's. So not the Echo, but perhaps something similar, a creation of his song.

"Feanaro?" She does indeed do better on that, though there's still her underlying accent--a little rough. Not surprising, when Sarai came from the steppes of Azim originally, back on Hydaelyn. "I do understand why you have a different name to use, when there are those of us who stumble. I appreciate it! 'Tis why I shortened my own name--too many a soul stumbled over 'Sarangerel'. Sarai rolls off the tongue more easily." She shrugged, then, a smile still curving her lips.

"There are trains on Hydaelyn, but I believe they are mostly for cargo, and mostly used by the Garlean Empire--they are far more versed in magitek than we Eorzeans are. We have a few airships that were built by Cid Garlond, but even he is a Garlean national, though he defected years ago..."

Sarai had to chuckle a little at Conan's determination--and at what he was saying.

"I understand. Everyone on Hydaelyn is taller than I am, too--unless they're Lalafellin; those truly are smallfolk. They only grow up to be about three feet tall."

So she usually tried to be sympathetic when others were forced to look up at her. Not that it happened terribly often.

Her lips twisted a little, then. "Even my little sister grew up taller than me by a few inches. Faugh! An insult!"

Though Sarai supposed Irves might need those few extra inches just to contain her volatile and dramatic personality...

He nods in agreement. Madoka did strike him as shy and nervous- but you never knew what was just for show with some people. It was strange how some of the younger kids seemed to be stronger than some of the older ones. Case in point. This girl seemed really young and yet, not visibly upset by the situation.

The explanation about what she was using was fascinating. "Are there any such devices on this train? Can you determine that?" Anything dealing with 'mind' and 'control' he wanted to know about it.

This is like a vacation compared to what was happening in the seconds before she blacked out and ended up here. A concerning vacation, given that the things happening were very important things, but still relaxing.

"I've tried. Nothing on the train, and nothing within a kilometer or so." Which meant that she couldn't take advantage of her most useful talents for now. "I'd have felt it."

Tony would be impressed. The man responds just like he knew exactly what he was talking about, so he just goes with it.

"Yes, that's a possibility." He holds out a hand. "So.. might I ask who you are?" They likely still had a good ten minutes or so before needing to get off this train. That gave them a few more minutes they could do this small talk before Tony would need to make certain things happen.

It was likely someone would be offended, but it wouldn't be Dread and Sarai. The man and the couple were good friends and they'd likely just laugh at him calling them strange. Not that Ash would know that.

"Really? You have mammoth sized people dating tiny people regularly?" He asks, remembering his jokes about Sarai's socks being microscopic. "It is. They have everything I would normally consider a well stocked kitchen. Obviously that might differ from place to place. They don't have all the cookies my wife hides behind the oatmeal and wheat germ, but they can only replicate so much." The last part had him giving her a grin. "Are you familiar with cooking?"

Tony grins, like a pleased tiger at being his intern. "It's the best! You have no idea how much I've spent on him already. If we ever go back though, he might be getting one of those big bubbles hamsters get stuck in."

"He's huge, she's tiny. And he really would answer to that. Just find a hall and call down 'Sarai's husband' and I'll bet you a twenty, he'll come out. He's about as smart as Thor looks like if you put Steve Rogers on steriods."

"It's not the worst thing I've been through," Edge said with an expansive shrug. The fall of Eblan had been worse. The trip through the Lunar Subterrane had been terrifying. This was irritating, but also affected only him. Eblan and the world as a whole were in no danger. "Just means I'll have to put paid to whoever caused this mess, as soon as I can!"

"Absolutely all my life! As the heir to Eblan, kingdom and clan both, my destiny was assured at birth. I have to be a credit to my family and my people both." Good thing he had been, right?

"Hmm, ninjutsu is sort of like black magic, right? The power inside us emerges as great destructive force."
