Evie's mother tried to kill someone just because she was jealous?! That's a wild idea to suddenly throw out there, especially since Madoka has (relatively) very normal and kind parents. And she isn't the type who can easily hide her reactions, so she looks totally shocked for a moment while Evie explains that.

She knows it can't be polite though to judge Evie for the actions of her parents, and she doesn't want to be mean by looking so shocked, so she quickly tries to look a little bit more calm, but that just ends up making Madoka seem super flustered for a moment instead. Her cheeks are a little pink from that still by the time she speaks up again.

"I.. um.. That's very admirable, Evie! You seem nice, so I'm sure you've already gone a long way!" And thank god she doesn't seem like the type to poison someone out of jealousy. Otherwise Madoka wouldn't have been able to sleep at night. Literally, since they share a cabin. "It must be really difficult to change things about yourself.. B-But, um, now we're both here, you can always ask me for help when you need it!"
