early birds workout [Closed]
Characters: Gladio and Yuki
When: Egret day 5
Where: Gym
Warnings: Topless Gladio!
Summary: Don't really know what to put here. Gladio is working out, Yuki is there, maybe something comes of this! Who knows~?
Gladio had always been an early bird. Lazing around in bed was a luxury he didn't often indulge in. So he was up bright and early that day, at least he assumed it was bright and early. Without a sun and a moon to tell the passage of time, Gladio was finding that the days were blending in together.
He made his way to the gym and immediately got down to business. Shirt off, warm ups commenced. Gladio had the stamina to go for hours if need be, but a half hour into his work out found the large, tattoo's Shield preforming a series of one-armed push ups as if it were nothing at all. And lets face it, when you'd done them with a grown man sat on your back, without seemed like a piece of cake.

Looking around he saw some wooden swords and the silver head cocked to the side. Picking one up, he held it out in front of him as if considering it. Shishou never really got into the swords so it wasn't something he learned. But Inigo was fond of talking about his sword and how it was a thrill in battle.
Thrilling and battle didn't go together in his own book. But as he turned around he saw a big man doing one armed push ups. That was impressive and he politely turned his head and went back to studying his wooden weapon.

For a few minutes he watched the kid toying with what looked to be a wooden sword that didn't look dangerous enough to even give a person a splinter. It became quickly apparent that the kid didn't know what the hell he was doing, so Gladio pushed himself up and wondered over.
"You interested in those, or just looking for a unique doors stop?" Gladio asked, deep voice friendly and conversational. He'd realised very early that people can get spooked by him, but he had no idea why. Apparently he was a cupcake.

"I couldn't find the list for classes." Seriously he would sign up because that one was always glibly talking about how he missed using his sword and Yuki thought he might have to be the one to keep that one from getting hurt. So he came here.
no subject
"Classes, huh?" Gladio hadn't realised they did classes in anything, he'd have to look into that and see if there was anything that could help him kill time. He gave himself a little mental shake and turned to the kid. Still smiling he used his free hand to give him a little 'come at me' gesture. "Show me what you've got. Lets see you protect this person of yours."

Inigo flashed through his mind as he raised his sword. This guy might be big but he had to have a weakness somewhere, Shishou taught him that much. He too had been quite the tall person but then again he was little and he'd been gentle compared to what this guy was going to end up being like.
He would find a way and he couldn't back down, so Yuki moved in to strike.
no subject
He didn't move though. He stayed right where he was when Yuki moved to him and easily intercepted the strike and just as easily pushed him back with a flick of his wrist. He didn't even need to use that much strength to do it, but he was still all smiles.
"Good. Try again." Gladio called, laughter in his voice. He could tell this kid had some skill, maybe a lot of skill, just not with a weapon. He supposed that could easily change, if he was willing.

He couldn't figure out why the other man was smiling, but somehow it didn't look mocking. He had to do this, and he would practice with this wooden sword until he could get good enough to maybe purchase a real katana from the store.
All this willingness to get his ass kicked to protect his friend, the warm and welcoming brown eyes that didn't judge him and just wanted to help after he turned into a Rat. Yuki had tried repeatedly to push Inigo away so he wouldn't have to mentally hear Akito saying people would be disgusted and turn away from him. He'd mistakenly thought Miss Honda's acceptance had been a fluke.
Inigo had accepted him too. So with that in mind, the gray eyes narrowed and Yuki went for the other's side.
Even if he got his ass handed to him, he would do his best and not give up.

Not knowing what was going through the others head, it was strange that the kid was being so quiet. He looked so serious as he would take a stance and come at him, sword swinging only to be knocked back and do it again in narrow eyed determination.
Eventually Gladio held up his hand and lowered his own sword, stopping what was happening.
"Could do this all day and let you wear yourself out, but that's not going to help you." Gladio's smile had left him then and a more serious expression had crossed his face. "Are you actually focusing on what your goal is here?" He asked as he idly twirled the wooden sword in his hand, eyes never leaving the boys.
no subject
He was almost angry when he was interrupted but realized the wisdom in what the tall man was saying. "My goal is to protect someone." This was said with an uncharacteristic fierceness. "He doesn't pay attention and I know he's going to be scatterbrained in battle." His shoulders slumped and the silvery head shook. "I'm probably going to be his only defense if he goes down so I have to learn to protect him."
no subject
"Then start thinking more calmly." Gladio said as he moved toward the boy. He set his sword down as he approached the young mans side and reached for the hand holding the sword and helped change his grip slightly. All the while he spoke. "You want to protect this guy? That's good. Having something to protect is an amazing thing. But getting yourself hurt doing it helps no one. You want to learn how to use a sword? I can help you with that. If you're serious?" Gladio gestured to one of the training dummies. "Take a deep breath and find your center. Then attack."
no subject
This training with this formidable warrior was so very important. So he nodded again with the wanting to learn how to use a sword. His fists wouldn't get him very far if someone had a gun or something that could be used further away.
Gladio got a very stern face. "I am serious."
His eyes then looked at the training dummies situated not far away.
'Find your center then attack.'
It was something like Shishou had told him. So he held onto the sword and looked at the dummies, picturing them as attacking with Inigo knocked down behind him. Taking a deep breath, his thin shoulders squared and relaxed before flipping the sword and attacking the chest of the nearest dummy.
It was going down.
no subject
He gave him a minute or two before he held up a hand and called a stop.
"Alright, think that's enough. You've got potential, kid. You're not going to learn everything you need to know in in a week, but I can show you the basics. If you wanna learn more..." Gladio held out his hand and grinned. "Names Gladio. I'd be happy to give you the tools you need to defend your friend."
no subject
He was about to kick the damn thing when Gladio called a halt to the proceedings. Without turning to look around at the warrior, he gave the dummy a deadly glare and kept his focus as he allowed his breathing to slow down to normal. If that was an actual person who hurt Inigo or if any of his friends came aboard, their head would be up their ass. Or off of their shoulders entirely.
Yuki smiled at the praise but he still didn't turn around until he heard the part about learning more. Yes he needed to learn because Inigo was unknowingly depending on him to keep his head. He nodded and saw the hand held out to him.
He tried not to smile though it was probably not working because in an odd sort of way this man reminded him of Shishou, the Sohma family martial arts teacher. He took the offered hand though it wasn't something he normally did. However, he'd learned that it was the polite way to exchange pleasantries aboard the train.
Letting go of the warrior's hand, Yuki bowed as he would do back home.
"Thank you."
no subject
"You're welcome. Name's Gladio, by the way." He gestured to the sword Yuki was holding. "That sword, I know it's just a wooden one, but the size of it, does that work for you?" There were so many different types of swords, he was curious if there was actually any real weaponry on board that he could pick through to see what the kid would be interested in.
no subject
He listened as the shield continued to educate him on the sword. "It works." he replied easily. No matter what it was made out of, Yuki would wield it with ferocity when it came to dealing with anyone who would harm Inigo.
no subject
"Do they have anything like real weapons here?" He asked then, curiously. It would be interesting to know if there was. But if not the wooden swords would be just fine and he would be happy to show Yuki how to wield it.
no subject
At the change of topic, Yuki shook his head. "I would think we do from missions past, but no one seems to know where they're located." He had a feeling that the leader of the train would know but that was a guess at best.
no subject
"Hm... Might ask Iggy or Tony about that..." Gladio mused to himself, if anyone would know he was sure it would be one of those. He'd have summoned one of his own swords but he wasn't certain Yuki would be able to actually wield them. Especially not when he was just starting out.
no subject
At hearing "I can start with what I have?" Yuki offered, not wanting to bother the man.
no subject
"We'll definitely start with what you have. Best to learn to crawl before we start running. Last think we want is you accidentally slicing off your arm, or mine." Gladio said with a laugh and gestured for Yuki to move up to his side. He'd taken up the wooden sword again and took up an easy stance, gesturing for Yuki to follow suit. "So lets start with the basics, alright?" And for the next hour or so Gladio put Yuki through the basics. The fact Yuki had previous training helped a lot. The kid had good balance and picked up on things quickly. He was a joy to teach.
no subject
There was a smile as Gladio went on about not slicing off his arm or anything because that meant everything was at least okay enough with everything so far. Yuki himself was a quick study and could learn really fast so he would put everything he had into this. Inigo was unknowingly depending on him to keep the their heads on straight in battle. Battle wasn't and never would be his thing, but he had to keep the warrior safe.
So he would learn some of their arts from a man who obviously knew what he was doing. This was almost fun as their swords clashed and what he didn't have in strength he made up for with quickness and speed.
