Never Going to Give You Up, Never Going to Say Goodbye

Who: Tony, Ignis, and later Madoka

Joss had come back to life, which was still hard for Tony to wrap his head around. Now they just needed Ignis, Buttercup, Romeo, Bucky, and several others to come back and everything would be fine again. It was an awful reminder of how fickle their time here on the train was, but also how precious it was too.

He'd promised Joss like several other passengers to check the luggage car regularly for Romeo. So far no one said they'd been trapped in one of these suitcases, but it was always possible. He was pretty sure if Peter ever got put in one of these it'd be one with a sword or some other disastrous combination.

He wasn't proud to admit this is what he was doing, but he was out of alcohol and so attempting another vice that he did every once in a while. It was hypocritical given his stance on it on the train but really, he could only handle so much. So he was sitting on a large wooden trunk with a cigar in his hand and debating if he should spend the extra points for another bottle of whiskey or not.

And that's when he heard a 'thud' from a few feet away.

Ignis had been literally struggling to get himself out of the packing crate that he'd found himself locked up in. Finally he managed to get it to tip over so that it opened and green eyes blinked owlishly. There was barely any light and still he could hear the thrumming of the engine beneath him as he extricated himself.

And as he stood dusting off his slacks, the advisor then adjusted his spectacles to push them up higher. He then saw a familiar form sitting calmly on a wooden trunk, and Ignis froze. He had no idea what happened or how much time had passed. He had been getting a report and had looked at Madoka who was fast asleep on the station. He turned and heard the train conductor, or thought that was so. Now here he was breaking out of a crate and staring at Tony.

He had no idea whether to laugh or cry.

Tony's eyebrows rose with concern as a crate fell over. Obviously this was someone in the process of coming back but who?

His jaw dropped open, narrowly keeping the cigar from dropping right on his pants. "Ignis!" He swiftly hopped off the suitcase he had been sitting on and came over to help him up. As soon as he was standing, Tony pulled him in to a tight hug. "Tiger, I was so worried about you!"

Madoka had said he'd come back. She'd been so positive about that and he hadn't wanted to believe it. He'd been too scared but this.. this proved he needed to have more faith in their daughter. Drawing back, he gave Ignis a stern look. "If you ever scare me like that again, I will spank you!"

Those arms came around him with a swiftness and Ignis returned the embrace. His jaw clenched and he shut his eyes then opened them again to make sure this was real. "I'm here..I'm home." Their tight hold eventually lessened and he lifted a hand to touch Tony's face.

He wasn't hearing much of a threat and there was a very small warm chuckle in response. It was short lived as a worried look replaced the smile a moment ago. "Is Madoka alright? What of Prompto, Gladio and the rest of my team?"

His head shook as he struggled to remember and was failing.

Tony's gaze dropped at the mention of the mission. He felt like he wanted to pace but he didn't want to let Ignis go- not now, not ever.

"Ignis.. it was a rough mission. None of it matters now though, now that you're back. Madoka and your boys are fine. They've been worried about you just as I have, but it'll be okay now." He tugged Ignis back into a hug. "I missed you."

There was a small sigh. The initial report he was getting had him relieved. "I missed you too but I left them.." Ignis said as Tony hugged him. His hold tightened as a few tears slipped silently down his face. "I didn't mean to leave them."

Guilt and pain coursed through him. "I turned..thought I heard the conductor speaking and the next thing..I'm here as are you." And it was possible his grip tightened further. "I don't know what happened."

Tony lifted his hand to touch Ignis' face and noticed the cigar still tucked in between his fingers. "You didn't leave them," he argued, moving away to put the cigar out. "You are no more responsible for that than if you had been kidnapped and missed someone's birthday party. Technically yes, you missed it, but did you really? This was done to you, not something you did."

Setting the cigar butt down on a suitcase, he came back and finally put his hands on either side of Ignis' face. "I refuse to let you put this on yourself when you and I know, if you had any power here at all, you would've been there."

His eyes never left Tony as he moved to put his cigar out. He puzzedly tried to put together being kidnapped and missing someone's birthday party. They could be together for years and Ignis still would never get some of the references. "I have no real idea what happened."

But suddenly he was face to face with the man and Ignis couldn't argue. Of course he would've been there for their daughter, his boys and his team. That was his job and all of them were his responsibility. So he breathed a hitched breath, still fighting to recall what happened.

"Then how much..time has passed?"

It was you may feel obligated to go to the party, but no one was going to blame you for not being there if you were kidnapped.

"It doesn't matter now. You're here and you're safe," Tony said shaking his head. If they ever were going to figure out what happened to people when they disappeared here it likely wouldn't be soon. They had nothing to use to study or prevent it- not until they got their hands on the conductor.

He put a hand up to stop Ignis' potential worry spiral with that question. "Not long. I don't know exactly how far into the mission you were before vanishing, but it's only been a day since we've gotten back. So enough time for us to be worried about you. Still.."

He leaned in and pressed a kiss to Ignis' lips. "We may need to give you a full examination to make sure you're alright."

His green eyes looked over at the luggage and somehow got the feeling that he wasn't the first to come back to the train this way. The last thing Ignis recalled was watching Madoka on the station.

Seeing Tony try and protect him from himself was sweet, not unlike another conversation they'd had. So the advisor just shook his head. "I didn't mean to worry you.." Or Madoka, or his fellow Crownsguard or anyone else.

The kiss was a pleasant surprise and one that he enjoyed, trying to relax now that he was back. "I promise I'm fine darling."

Just confused and disoriented.

"I know. It's nothing you would've ever done if you had a choice. That's clear to anyone who's met you." He was doing his best to hide the feelings he'd been battling with since the other man's sudden disappearance. It was easier to put his efforts on reassuring Ignis than to reason with himself that everything really was okay again.

He had to laugh at the adorably missed innuendo. "Have I told you lately that you're my favorite?" He asked. He reached lower from where he was holding Ignis to him and squeezed a firm cheek. "So glad you brought that back to me in particular," he teased lightly. "Although with you being gone for so long, I'm now accustomed to taking up the whole bed and we'll have to find a way to get you to fit on the nightstand next to me instead."

He shook his head, because of course he would never abandon his duty. Ignis sighed wishing to have stayed with his team. It didn't look good to leave them during a mission for any reason and he wasn't that way.

Confusion raced through Ignis as Tony suddenly laughed. Between trying to figuring out what happened and the laugh, he just didn't understand. What was so funny? "I beg your pardon? Why am I your favourite?" he finally asked, trying to figure out what was such a laughing matter, especially with how serious this all was.

That was forgotten as his ass cheek was grabbed and his focus was suddenly directed elsewhere. So the advisor smiled at Tony due to turning his thoughts elsewhere. "I should check on everyone before I decide to sit on the nightstand for you."

"Why can't you ever notice when I'm hitting on you?" Tony countered with a smirk. "I just said let's examine you- it's like that time I told you that you stink and you need a shower. I'm just so glad to have my clueless Tiger back."

He made an exaggerated pout at that last comment. "What? You're going to keep me waiting? Can't we just give a quick shout out on our way to our bedroom?"

"Because you do it at the oddest times." came the reply but there was a smile on Ignis' face. That smile turned into a slight laugh and a shake of the head. "I suppose you'll pardon me at wanting to take a shower with you first before these bedroom antics happen."

Personal hygiene was a thing with the advisor, and he didn't want to inadvertently offend Tony with being unclean, especially since he'd been asleep for who knew how long. If everyone had been back a day, he had no clue on the when he was snatched from the mission.

Talk about a clueless Tiger.

Seeing Tony pout made Ignis clench his fists at his side because he was ready to put Tony against the wall to shut him up. "More than likely you'd shout you're going to bed with me."

"It's not my fault you look sexy even when falling out of a box," he joked with a laugh. He loved the way he could distract the poor man away from that spiral of guilt he'd started to move toward. It was much better to get his beautiful beau smiling and exasperated.

"They'd at least know you were back then." He took Ignis' hand and headed back toward their cabin. "And I'll allow a shower but only if I'm in there with you."

Ignis laughed in spite of himself. It truly must've been a sight to see to see him falling out of a box and a rather undignified one at that. A question formed in his mind but Tony arrested his attention by taking his hand.

He smiled like a little kid as they moved through the train, and ended up waving at some people who seemed surprised and happy to see him. Obviously his absence had been noted and it was all quite touching to him.

"I wouldn't want to shower without you darling."

It's not a long walk from the luggage car to their room, but Tony glances his way a number of times as if trying to convince himself the man was really there. This would be a really awful dream to wake up from if Ignis was still gone. If this was an illusion, he hoped no one would wake him from it.

Inside their room, nothing has really changed except Buttercup's bear is on the table between the beds instead of on her bed where it normally was. He turned once they were in the room and pulled his lover back in his arms. "I'm so glad you're back. I'm sorry we keep butting heads on things that don't matter."

He was curious as to why Tony kept turning around, but he continued to hold the man's hand and smile as they walked along. The door closed behind him and he didn't note anything else but the man in front of him. The next thing he knew he was pulled into an embrace and he sighed, feeling the tension sliding from his shoulders.

The words were serious and Ignis just smiled, tightening his hold. It felt so damn good to have this man back in his arms. "I know..you just wanted to protect me, which is one of your most endearing traits." Gently he rubbed his head against the dark one because other than that they were going to go to bed and he wanted to be able to at least see their daughter.

"It's good to be back home with you."

They'd been through so much here. The idea that Ignis could easily have been someone to walk away in the morning and disappear from his life was terrifying. It reminded him of Feanor's words, that this was not unlike regular life when anything could happen and someone could be forever lost. After some of the tragedies he'd had in his life, he knew the truth to that warning.

He drew back and gently took Ignis' face in between his hands. He put his forehead to his love's and a quick breath. "If I wasn't certain before if we should marry or not, I'm convinced now."

Ignis wondered what had gone through Tony's mind during his absence and he could only guess at the dark depths the other man had plummeted through. It made his heart ache all over again and he just stared into those dark eyes with wonder in his own. Their foreheads met and he smiled softly. Even after all this time, this gesture was the remembrance of the night they first shared together. It may not mean much to other people but it meant the world to Ignis every time they did this.

Those words hadn't been what he was expecting, though in truth he really wasn't expecting anything. But there was a smile. "What's convinced you?" And it made the advisor wonder if Tony hadn't been convinced before. But there was no pressure on them to marry. He was happy being engaged if that's all that the other wanted for a long time.

There was pain in his eyes still from the wound finding Ignis gone had left. It had been a cut that had gone straight through all the armor he had and pierced his heart. There had been other wounds that had come at that same time that had damaged him as well, but Ignis was the sharpest. A piece had begun to mend in the last few hours and now his wound would heal even better. He would miss his elven brothers, but to have his son and his lover back, he would count that as a victory.

"Almost losing you, silly," he said with the softest of teases. "You're my everything, Tiger. We don't know what will happen in the future and all we have is the present." His thoughts went to the other person who had been lost since Papa had been gone. "Do you want to shower first or would you prefer we reached out to our daughter?"

A sad smile appeared and there was so much regret and remorse in the green depths. Ignis would've never ever left if he had the choice, and it pained him to think of how Tony and Madoka must've felt. His head slightly lowered, trying to find the words to reply with, given the worry and guilt he was experiencing. "I'd..be quite lost without you." Green eyes looked up and he was sure there were tears in them. "You've..given me so much here, so much life I would've never had otherwise...you truly are my hero."

He moved to give a light gentle kiss to the other's forehead, feeling a few tears slide down, trying to steady his voice.

"I would prefer to wait. If we take a shower, I highly doubt it will be a short one. And Madoka may very well be asleep." He thought of her crying her little eyes out at night along with Tony and his stomach just turned.

Tony smiled, loving Ignis so much it hurt. He knew they would both feel the same. They belonged together and had grown accustomed to that kind of support. He ran a hand along Ignis' back as he heard more than saw those tears.

"Thank you, Tiger. You're not only the king's advisor but mine as well. You keep me sane, if anything can."

At the answer about putting off the shower, he nodded. "I figured as much. She's the only one I would've shared you with anyway. Let's go find her. She'll be beside herself with excitement that you're home."

"I'm..more than happy to be of service.." Ignis replied with a small laugh in his voice, removing his glasses and wiping his tears off on his sleeve. He fought the urge to push Tony against the wall and so tried to overly focus on adjusting his glasses.

He slightly smiled at the sharing comment but nodded. "The sooner we see her, the better." And the sooner they got her back to bed, the sooner the advisor could carry through on the thought of pushing his lover against a wall.

"Is that what we're calling it now?" He teased and gave Ignis' tush a squeeze. He then offered his handkerchief for his mate to clean his tears away. He had a few of his own, but he dabbed at them only when Ignis was done.

He took Ignis' hand again and led him out of the room. From there they sought out her room and Tony knocked. "Mady, Dad's got a surprise for you!"

"Dad..?"

The voice coming from inside sounds kind of.. confused? It's not that weird for Tony to show up, sure, but she didn't exactly expect him to say that at a time like this. He seemed so sad before that there's no way he could have cheered up that easily with Ignis gone. Of course Madoka of all people can understand that - she's been just as sad! There's not something weird going on, is there?

When the door opens and she peeks out, pink hair hanging down over her shoulders since she already took her ribbons out to get ready for bed, Madoka looks half-worried, half-wary. "Is something wr.."

Of course she stops mid-sentence the very moment she realises it's not just her dad standing there by himself. The girl's eyes widen in surprise, like she isn't quite sure if what she's seeing is real.

"Papa..?!"

"Yes." The reply came out partly watery but Ignis didn't mind that much right now. The smile about the handkerchief was watery as well. He could never express how much he loved those tender gestures. The grab to his arse had been welcome too and it earned an extra smile.

Tonyvwas certainly in command tonight with the hand holding but he didn't mind. For some reason he felt nervous at seeing the daughter he'd very inadvertently left behind but there was only a smile at seeing her adorable face.

Letting go of Tony's hand as the cherubic face appeared, Ignis immediately knelt down to gently take his daughter into his arms. Ignis' grip tightened and his hug got a little more fierce.

At this point, he didn't trust himself to speak.

If Tony could, he'd put a leash on Ignis and never let go of the other end of it. It had been painful to find the man missing. It shouldn't be too long before Tony calmed down, but in the meantime, his poor fiance was going to have to get used to this treatment.

He stepped back as the two united, finally letting it fully sink in that Ignis was back. It almost took his knees from under him, but he put a hand on the wall for balance, letting the other two hold each other.

"He decided to come out from the suitcase he's been hiding in while I was back in the luggage room," he joked, trying to pretend it wasn't quite as big of a deal as it was.

Any doubt as to whether this is real or not is gone the moment Ignis hugs her like that. It feels much too real to be anything else. Which means that he really is back, and just that thought by itself is such a relief that Madoka's hands immediately move to cling back onto Ignis' shirt in return in the hug - clinging like she's afraid he'll disappear again if she lets go.

Sure, she had told others that he'd be back.. and she really tried to keep that hope alive the best she can. But it was so hard to not get more and more nervous the closer the platform day came up. She was so worried she'd see her papa walk away in the morning...

The girl is content enough to just quietly stay in the hug for a moment, but then Tony speaks up. It makes her pull her head back just enough to glance at him, thinking back on what Ignis told her about him making jokes at emotional moments to try to cope. Of course, Tony must be so relieved about all of this too.. She can only imagine how worried and sad he must have been to have been in the luggage car by himself.

So she slowly releases her hold on Ignis for a moment, quickly mumbling, "Papa.. just a moment.." Since she doesn't want to startle him or think she doesn't want a hug. No, that's not the problem here. She just momentarily get loose from the man's grasp so she can reach over to grab her dad's hand and pull him closer, not wanting to leave him out. The most important part is that they're all together again, after all.

"I think dad wants a group hug," she says to Ignis with a smile. There's something slightly shaky about it, since the relief really is that strong and impactful for her too, but at the same time the smile is very genuine. (And just the tiniest bit teasing, since look, she caught dad in the middle of his habit, just like papa taught her.)

Tony's voice was the only thing that registered other than the hug he was getting. There was a little smile at the teasing he heard but when Madoka told him just a moment, that got his full attention. So Ignis looked over to see what their daughter was doing and watched with a now watery smile at her antics. So when her Dad came over, he nodded approvingly. "Why I do believe you are correct, he did require one after all."

It was still unusual but the advisor then stood up and picked their daughter up in his arms to place between them. Ignis gave Tony a brief kiss and gently rubbed his mate's nose with his own. "I love you both." His grip on Madoka got a little bit tighter before turning his green eyes onto their pink haired girl, giving her a brief kiss on the cheek.

Of course Tony would follow the instant his daughter reached for him. It warmed his heart to see the way they could be together in this moment and enjoy their small family. Ignis was home and their daughter was no longer said. It was all he could've asked for.

Tony smiled as Ignis kissed him. After their noses touched, he chuckled as he and Ignis had the same idea. He kissed the girl's forehead and Ignis got her cheek.

"We love you too, Tiger. Now, what do you think Kitten? Should we see if he'll make us a treat so we can make sure it's the real Ignis?"

This is exactly what Madoka wanted to see. Sure, Ignis' smile is a little watery, but that's definitely a smile. So that means both of her dads are right here and both are smiling - she really couldn't ask for more than that, especially when it seemed only yesterday like she might never be able to see that again.

And of course that makes the girl smile as well, especially as she's picked up and held between them. The kisses even get small giggles from her, clearly just happy rather than embarrassed about it in the slightest.

She nods at Tony. "I'd like that.." But this is Madoka, so of course she has to be overly considerate and make sure first. "Are you up to it, papa?" Since he's still so freshly back and emotional! She doesn't want to push poor Ignis.

Of all the things he might not be able to admit out loud, it was that he needed to be needed. And one of the those other things he couldn't admit was that all Tony had to do was call him Tiger and any worries or fears he might have would instantly abate. But his lover's question got a smile and a small laugh.

Madoka had such a lovely laugh and he figured there had to be more ways to get to hear it. So he nodded to their daughter at her question. "I am always ready to take care of the two of you no matter what."

And that was true as toasted toads.
