Event: Abort! Part Two (day 25, Egret). Luggage carriage

They are on world world#27462947582 for about five hours, helping, ushering people out of the city, fighting monsters, keeping guard. All seems well in the city itself, peaceful even except for the slight panic of people being told to move south.

Wherever they are, north in the desert, travelling through the countryside to the south or still in the city itself they will notice from their peripheral vision a darkening of the sky. Looking up they will see clouds. Strange clouds, appearing in the blue sky out of nowhere.

Their SCA’s start beeping, rapidly, flashing red. The clouds are too weird to be clouds, dark shapes in the sky. It might be that the Voidtreckers heed the warning and tap their SCA to evacuate to the train. It might be that they do not.

If they don’t then there is a moment, a moment of absolute stillness as those around them notice the shapes. A confused pause. Children stop their chatter, people stop their complaining, even the monsters seem to sense something and pause in their attacks.

The remaining voidtreckers are yanked away, even without pressing their SCA, they glow gold and disappear.

They all appear in the luggage carriage and not even a second later, with no warning the train lurches, flinging everyone off their feet as it enters the void.

It’s not really easy to tell speed in the void, but they will get the sense that they are moving fast. Faster than before, leaving that world and whatever those shapes were behind.

(OOC: Information on this event is here and part one is here)

"I do no be knowing either." She frowned and sat down opposite him as it doesn't look like he's up for getting up yet.

"Why did the train be bringing us back? If they did be being monsters we could have been fighting them."

"Maybe it-...god, okay, let's...let's assume the train itself has some kind of willpower and isn't totally beholden to who or whatever's driving it. For the sake of theorizing."

Headaches or not, stringing together some kind of logic was probably the only thing stopping Waver from panicking beyond the capacity for rational thought.

"If that's the case, then I'd guess it just sort of...reacted. Like if you see someone about to fall, you reach out to stop them. Whatever power the train has over us or at least our watches, it probably utilized that to grab us and run, so to speak. The question isn't really 'why', to me, but 'run from what?'"

"Okay." She nodded, she can't imagine a train having willpower but Nita had told her about fake intelligence machines so it's not a completely out-there idea. The train can think and has a will separate than the driver. She can theorise.

"It has never no been doing that before. No when there has been danger. No when the wizards did be blowing up in the goblin place. No when me and Peter did be being captured by goblins. No when the volcanoes did be exploding. No apparently when Joss did be nearly dying in space." There had been dangers aplenty.

So.

"Those things did be being worse." She pointed at him. "You do be asking the right question I do be thinking." Not why. But from what.

"This doesn't make any sense."

Deep breath. Waver brought his hands together in front of him, nervously rubbing the two remaining Command Seals on his right.

"So then I have to ask that if things have been that bad before without so much as a twitch from the train itself...especially since it reacted so suddenly, did it know what those shapes were, or did it sense something terrible off of them that I couldn't?"

"It do no be being." She sighed, tilting her head as she looked at the strange marks on his hand.

"Do you normally be sensing terrible things?"

People had all sorts of strange powers after all.

"Not terrible things specifically, just...I'm a mage. So sometimes if I'm lucky and it's strong enough, I can sense magic."

"Oh. I do be seeing." Priests could do similar in her own world, sense magic where it was being used and even sometimes where it lay dormant. She didn't know much about how it worked, but it was enough that she understood why he might have been able to sense whatever those shapes were.

"Maybe they did no be being magic. Or it did just be being a magic that do be being very different than in your own world."
