Who: Madoka, Romeo and Maru
When: Day 14 of Fiddlesticks
Where: The games carriage
What: Madoka is still on her quest to show off her kitty to everyone ever. Today's edition: two cute kids and a cute cat.
Warnings: It's two cute kids and a cutevampire hikikomori kitty. What's the worst that could happen.
Madoka sure hasn't forgotten about the fact she promised to show off her kitty to Romeo! Sure, it may be a while later by now since they had the whole mission happening first and Madoka wanted to make sure Maru was alright again first after all that.. but now he seems to be in the same shape as ever, she figures it's the right time to show him off to Romeo. And to introduce Romeo to him, really, because this is a two way street. A two way street that leads to more cute friends for her adorable kitty pal. Because god knows Maru could use some more friends, especially ones that can be all happy and positive to him - and if anyone she knows is good at that, it's Romeo.
So she's asked Romeo to come out to the games carriage to meet her kitty and maybe play some games. Madoka has made sure to come out there a little in advance so Romeo won't have to wait for them. She's just sitting there and waiting with the cat on her lap, gently playing with his ears and giving them tiny scritches to pass the time.

He had a bag of sweets that he had bought, to share. Though he's not sure if cats can eat sweets... Some might be able to. He will have to ask them!
He spots Madoka straight away and waves. "Hello! I brought us snacks!" He grinned at the cat and waved at him too.

After the events of the mission, and just as he'd promised, he'd been healed by the next day. Though he had slept most of the next two days. Today marked the day where he was actually awake and aware enough to actually meet this friend of Madoka's without zonking out on them.
His ears twitched hearing a voice he didn't recognise and sleepy eyes slowly opened and a small paw lifted in a return wave.
no subject
But thankfully she isn't focused on it enough to completely miss Romeo entering the carriage. She looks up at the sound of the boy's voice and smiles the moment she spots him.
"Romeo, hi!" She's already happy to see him in general, but his added words about the snacks just make her smile even more. She didn't even ask him to bring those, what a happy coincidence! Madoka gently picks Maru up to angle him a bit better, just so he can see the bag of sweets. "Look, Maru, there's candy! Isn't it so sweet of him to bring those?"
no subject
He got closer and crouched down in front of them with a grin, putting the sweets down so they could help themselves.
Maru does seem like a very sweet cat and it's good to see Madoka looking so happy!
no subject
His head dropped and looked at the guy, the candy was put elsewhere and now he found himself on an eye-level with the kid. Maru blinked. "Hi... Thanks for bringing candy." That was polite, right? He was being polite. Maybe...
no subject
"Maru likes snacks, so it was a good idea." Madoka smiles, but then seems to realise that maybe she ought to not teach Romeo the wrong thing here, so she quickly adds-- "Um, I'm.. not sure if that counts for all cats though! Maru is special.."
Before Romeo goes around feeding all sorts of things to other people's regular cats on the train!
".. Your friend could be a cat sometimes though?"
aparantly I didn't have this tracked...
"Yes! He could! He still sort of looked like a person when he was a cat but he had cat ears and a tail like a cat and he was a superhero!"
He grinned at them both, "What are you playing?"
You're all good!
"We're not playing anything yet..." Were they going to play something. He looked up at Madoka. "Are we?"
no katy you're exiled now
For now she's definitely excited to focus on games though. Maybe it'd be a good idea to let Maru and Romeo get to know each other more? Games clearly make everyone get along!
"We could play one if you want? Like Hungry Hungry Hippos!" Does Madoka clearly have a favourite game? Yes. She doesn't even bother to try to hide it.
sits in the shame corner
"Hungry hungry hippos? I never played that one before? Is it fun?"
If Madoka picked it it must be. Madoka has a good taste in lots of things!
no subject
"I don't mind. If you've not played it, we should play that one." Maru said with a nod. Not that it was his decision or anything. He was just agreeing with the masses.
no subject
It's Hungry Hungry Hippos, clearly it's impossible for things to not be fun when that is involved! Madoka seems confident that Romeo will like it, at least, although part of that confidence may come from the fact that Romeo seems generally excited about most things. It doesn't seem like it takes much to impress him - although that's definitely a good thing in this case.
And while Maru might not be agreeing as enthusiastically (though that's normal, coming from him) she's sure they will all be able to have fun together. So Madoka already gets up in order to grab the game and put it out on the table for them to play.
"It's all about making sure the poor little hippos don't go hungry!"
no subject
He nodded at Madoka. "Okay we can make sure the poor little hippos get lots of tasty food!"
He did have a question though. "Madoka? What's a hippo?"
no subject
"They're big..." Maru said, thinking about what he knew about hippos. "And have really bad breath." And that was about all he knew. Big and smelly. And they could kill a man with one bite. But the kid didn't need to know that.
no subject
"You've never seen them before?" She asks, giving Romeo a curious look. She guesses it makes sense.. Hippos probably would go to some sort of special seperate hippo heaven rather than the one Romeo is from, right?
"What Maru says is right.. I think they live out in Africa? They eat a lot, I think that's why they based this game on them!"
no subject
"I know where Africa is! It is a whole bit of the world a..." He thinks, "Continent! It is huge!"
Which was a good thing, if hippos were so big!
no subject
Okay, so maybe he liked them a bit more than he let on. People on the train were free with their petting and that was just fine with him. So he leaned into those petting fingers, his head tilting until they reached his ear.
He probably should have gotten in on the conversation. But he was a little distracted.
no subject
"It is." She nods, still with that smile on her face, though she makes sure to actually look at Romeo as she does so. "I'm sure they live somewhere there, although I'm not sure where.. but you're still really smart to know that, Romeo!" Hey, it can't hurt to compliment him a little, right?
She pulls the game out of the box, starting to set it up.
"Don't worry though, these hippos don't smell bad at all."
no subject
"That's good! A smelly game would be really weird!"
He crouches over to look at the game as she set it up. "So those are the hippos?"
no subject
He hung on when the kid crouched down though, and jumped up from shoulder to the kids head and sat, peering over to watch what Madoka was doing.
"... When are hippo's ever pink or green though?" He asked.
no subject
But whereas she just beams a smile at Romeo's question, it's Maru's question that comes after it that makes her laugh a bit more sheepishly.
"Well, I guess this game wasn't really going for realistic hippos.. But I think they're cute this way! I really like the pink one.." Surprising literally no one, right.
no subject
"And Maru can be blue, like his fur!"
There's no brown unfortunately to match his own hair, but he doesn't mind!
no subject
He pushed himself up to his feet and in a single, smooth leap he went from the boys shoulder to Madoka's. He bumped his head against her cheek. "Pink is a good colour. There are pink hippos, you know?"
no subject
"Um.. Which one do you want to be then, Romeo? The green one? I guess it would have been a little better if we would have had one more person to play with.. Let's ask another one of our friends to join in next time."
no subject
Considering he had just learned what a hippo was a few minutes ago he isn't actually too surprised. But pink animals are a bit unusual!
"We could! We should ask Elfnein, I bet she would find it fun!"
no subject
There were pink animals... and white animals. There was a word for it but Maru couldn't remember what it was at that point in time, so didn't think it mattered too much.
And he didn't know who Madoka's Little Friend was talking about, so he couldn't really comment on that much at all. All he could do was enjoy Madoka petting him.
no subject
So she sits down at the table, making sure she's on the side with the pink hippo. Unfortunately that means Maru will have to live without his pets for a moment, since Madoka is gently lifting him up to put him on top of the table next to the blue hippo.
"Maru, can you play like this?" As a cat, she means.
no subject
He blinked at the question though. It was a good point. Can cats play games?
no subject
"Yup." He nodded and looked up at the boy and then Madoka. "I can play." Would he be as fast as the others, he wasn't sure. But he could join them in their fun as much as possible and get a few marbles, he hoped.
no subject
"Maru, you're so cute..!"
Give her a moment, surely she'll get around to actually starting the game soon.. But she's way too busy cooing over her cat right now.
no subject
And he clearly makes Madoka so happy! That's a really good thing and it makes Romeo smile even more.
no subject
"... Uhh... well..." No, he wasn't embarrassed. You're embarrassed! He's just a cat... trying really hard not to find somewhere to hide.
no subject
Instead Madoka just smiles as she glances back to Romeo as well.
"What do you say, should we do a practice round first? I'll put in the balls, and all you have to do is make your hippo move to eat as many of them as possible! Make sure the hippos are no longer hungry!"
no subject
That sounded easy enough, he pressed his own leaver once, just to practice.
He smiled at them both happily. He's ready!
no subject
"I'm ready." His hippo was the hungriest. His was going to eat the most balls, he was sure of that!
no subject
Maybe since she's much too busy putting all the balls into the arena! The girl seems to be particularly careful about it, like she's trying to make really sure that they're all neatly lying in the middle and no one has any advantage.. This is a fair hippo eating contest!
Once she's content enough with it, she moves back to a position where she can push onto her own hippo's lever.
"Okay. On three! One.. two.. three!"
no subject
On three!
He sits ready, hands hovering above the lever until she says three and then he hits down, pressing the lever as quickly as he can, to try and catch some tasty balls for his hippo to eat!
no subject
no subject
And that's exactly why Madoka is going a bit slower than usually right now. Even as she's pushing down on the lever, she's not quite just watching her own hippo - she's looking at Romeo's and Maru's too, and even making sure to catch a glimpse of their faces. Just making sure they're having fun with this!
"Good job, you two, keep going like this..!"
no subject
But he's having fun, he's laughing even though his hippo really hasn't eaten many balls at all. "Come on mister hippo!" He laughs, "You're hungrier than that!"
no subject
Shaking himself off, he sat up and rubbed his head a bit, looking slightly sheepish. "Oops..." And then went right back to making his hippo try and catch the few marbles that remained.
no subject
Oh no!
Granted, Maru slipping and falling like that is not a big deal at all in the grand scheme of things. He doesn't even seem that hurt, since he shrugs it off so easily a moment later.. but while the last few balls are gobbled up by the hippos, Madoka releases her lever entirely, turning all her attention to the cat. Of course she's going to fuss. It's what she does.
"Maru..! Are you feeling okay..?" She gently strokes her hand across his head, like she's looking for a bump of any kind.
no subject
Romeo has also let go of his lever, even as Maru clambers back up to continue playing.
"Did you get hurt? Do we need to get a cat doctor?"
no subject
He looked up at Madoka then over to her friend, and almost laughed. Instead he gave a soft purr and let his eyes close. Maybe she was looking for a lump, but she was petting him too, and that was nice.
"I'm alright... No lumps or bumps. No doctor." His little paws had just slipped, that was all. "... Are we playing again?"
we can probably wrap this up after you guys tag? c:
But he does seem okay, so after giving him a last pat on the head, she lets go and looks between the cat and Romeo.
"Sure, if you two want to! We can easily do a few more rounds!"
yep!
But Madoka is really smart, so if she thinks it will be okay... He nodded, "We can keep playing!"
Re: yep!
"No cat doctor. I'm fine. I wanna keep playing." He hadn't done himself any kind of damage, but he was touched that these two had worried about him. He softly purred and bounced a bit to make the hippo's head shoot out. "Lets play!"
