A New Platform [Intro Post July]
On the Train
Luckily for everyone the final couple of days of Fiddlesticks are quiet and mostly uneventful. Eventually though they awake to the announcement. "Good morning passengers, it is day one of the month of Grasshopper. Points have been updated on the system."
They have indeed and everyone can spend the morning shopping. Those who have been on the train a while will be expecting the second announcement that comes a few hours later.
"Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one." A lurch and a jolt and they are soon surrounded by the fog that means they are at a platform. Also a loud pattering sound, which they will discover once the doors open are hailstones. They might want to grab their raincoats.
As usual the first to leave the train notice nothing as they walk silently, rucksacks on their backs, towards the barriers. Ann Takamaki, Drizzt, Geralt, Huehuecóyotl, Ignis Scientia, Ivy Wakefield, Jiang Yanli, Lan Sizhui, Maebhrin Tillinath, May Parker, Nie Huaisang, Osomatsu Matsuno, Raven, Roxas, Shaw, The Iron Bull, Ultimo, Wei Wuxian, Yuki Sohma, Yuffie, Yukito Tsukishiro
But on the platform itself there are many new faces. Wearing hoodies and waterproofs, in various states of confusion.
For New Passengers
At first all they can see is steam. Billowing around them as they come to their senses. The second thing they will notice is it is cold, hailstones rain down around them, though they don’t last long on the platform ground, melting into slush.
They are standing, in clothes that are not their own, styles they might not even recognise. They are carrying a rucksack on their back. For a moment it seems to just be them, alone in the white haze but then the steam begins to fade and they realise they aren’t alone.
The platform is not large and it holds nineteen figures all facing the tracks, all dressed in cargo trousers and hoodies. Both left and right the tracks disappear into the mist. Then there is a roaring sound and out of the fog arrives a train. Jet black with gold writing on the side. The Voidtrecker Express. There is a hiss as the doors slide open and out into the cold step a selection of people. Some are human, some are less so. Most are wearing the same hoodie in one of the four colours, red, orange, blue and purple though some are sporting different clothes in a variety of styles.
The Train
The doors hiss open. Those from the train may encourage those on the platform to board. It’s not like there is anywhere else to go and even if there was, you feel a pull. A need to board, a feeling that staying on the platform would not be a good thing. If that is not enough, there are plenty of people on the platform now, to encourage them onto the train.
Indeed whereas usually there is plenty time for people to be met and brought slowly onto the train, the whistles blow a lot quicker this time, as if hurrying the passengers along.
Each ICP shows the same message and next to the screens there are stacks of leaflets written by those on the train, with further information. The store rooms have been restocked, it seems carrots have taken over the bacon, though there are plenty of other staples.
Those from blue team who go to investigate will find a box of biscuits. There is enough for the whole team, including new passengers. Join in your team's success!
Those who are not new will quickly discover some changes made to make the train accessible to those who can’t see, including Braille translations of all the signs around the train.
There is of course the new music room to explore. A double carriage, the downstairs has instruments to learn and practice with, as well as a series of music screen points. Those who play around with the screens will soon discover their SCA’s can now store music and can choose their favourites to listen to around the train.
Upstairs is a performance area and holds a piano.
New passengers will find their tickets allow them into their cabins. They may need to negotiate for beds, especially if they want a top bunk!
Room is tight but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches and you will hopefully find a pillow for your bed if it has not been nabbed by a roommate, there are also spare blankets for if it gets cold.
Departure
A second horn sounds over the noise of the hail stones to encourage any stragglers and the doors slide shut. Veteran passengers know what will happen next, they may wish to brief their new companions.
The train sets off, the fog obscuring the view as it picks up speed.
"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express." A female-coded artificial sounding voice echoes throughout the train. "Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."
The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog filled sky.
"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated. Entry into Voidspace in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."
A shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding. As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever changing colours.
Welcome to the Void!

Welcome to the Void!

Recruited...by the void train...
The blond blinks, and slowly looks at the train. "...It looks void-y 'nough I guess...." He seems to be taking it fairly well at least, even if it's with confusion. "Well, guess 's not tha' far fr'm gettin' recruited t' go through wormholes then. Kinda jus' fell int' the las' place, been there abou' four months so..."
no subject
Someone is trying to sound unhappy about that, but he's fond of the troublemaker anyway.
"We travel from world to world, going on rescue missions. Since you're on blue team, you're likely to be in the thick of it when things hit the fan. Think you can handle it?"
no subject
"Never seen it, but I guess I can jus' ask abou' that..." He shrugs, looking behind Kaiba to the train. It looks very nice, and dry in there.
He's immediately heading in, the ponyta ahead of him. "Eh, sounds like 's about what would've happened in Alola 'f y' ask me! 'Sides, when was I not in th' thick of it!" he laughs, jabbing a thumb at himself. "You can't say highschool for Yugi an' th' rest 'f us was ev'n close to normal, an' y' know it!"
no subject
"Then do I have good news for you. Yugi's here...as is Mazaki, but they're from a version of our world that's...different. Something bizarre happened to them."
no subject
He finds himself aware of what comes next, before the words leave Kaiba's mouth.
Even so the knowledge of them glues him to the spot he has in the train doorway, turned partway toward the other with a blank and then carefully neutral stare.
(He already knows there's no point in chasing after anyone. He knows he won't find them right now. But even so, a part of him wants to try, and he squashes it down with a swallow.)
"'Mazaki'?" he repeats, swallowing thickly and focusing back on getting into the train more properly. "Since when did Anzu go back t' that huh?"
no subject
"But they're not Anzu. Something happened to them...we thought they had fused with Atem, but now we think it might have been Zorc? They have the pharaoh's mind crush ability, regardless, and used it on a murderer. And that has the whole train up in arms."
no subject
It is very hard, to keep walking while Kaiba explains something he knows from another world.
So hard in fact that he has to stop, turn back, and raise a brow. "...Y' think they're fused w' who?" he asks, still walking even while looking back behind him. Kaseri is all too eager to follow, shaking the water off her mane while she does so.
Problem with what's being said here, in his grand opinion- who the hell is Zorc? He thinks he's heard the name before, but he sure doesn't know the context at all!
Also he's hungry. And wet. Food first, then asking about a shower, he decides.
no subject
"We think they want to be called Wester now, but we haven't been able to speak to them since we figured this out. They've being held in custody for a few days to make sure they don't terrify anyone else with vigilante justice. They should be let out soon, but..."
He just looks tired. Really tired. "Where are we going?"
no subject
That's a name he doesn't know. He turns his head back around, shrugging- and hiding his frown before he speaks up. "There's gotta be somewhere on th's thing where you guys have food righ'? So I figure, I'm gonna find some! I haven' had anythin' since th's mornin', and it would've been noon b'fore I fell!"
no subject
"We don't usually provide full meals until an hour or so after takeoff, to give your stomachs time to adjust. But since you're on Blue, you have the right to the cookies in the luggage car, and I can take you to the kitchen if you're still hungry after that."
There's just the problem...that luggage and kitchen are on opposite ends of the train...
no subject
...And with an extremely well hidden loss of eye focus, he's continuing for the kitchen. "Cool! D'ssert! F'r me anyway, yer wearin Baby Dragon's colours after all," he laughs as he carries on. "When'd you las' eat though huh, if we ain't gettin' meals maybe there's somethin' f'r a snack!"
no subject
He opens the store cabinets and sighs. "...and it's carrots this month. Hope you like them. We might have some bacon left over from last month if you're lucky."
no subject
It's about when the cabinet opens that he blinks. "...Nyh? Whatdy' mean, carrots th's month, y' can't jus' live on one thing f'r a month!" He. Thinks? Anyway?
"...Bacon'd be in some kinda fridge righ'?" If it's leftover, then that's probably the best spot for eating from.
no subject
He'll start up a skillet and grill some carrots too, just to see how nice a snack they are.
no subject
He's searching the fridges. "Yeah...cookin's more Bakura's thing, outta any 'f us. ...I think I c'n handle fryin' bacon tho..." Just need...even a quarter of a pack...
no subject
"Here. I know you want to get back to Yugi and Wester as soon as possible."
He takes a deep breath. "And I'll even call a truce with you, provided you never compare me to that card again."
no subject
...But, he won't say no to a nicely cooked skillet. Cool, cool. There's a small yelp when it makes contact with his fingers, but he bites it down- almost literally, blowing on the fingers of his card-hand a few moments before shrugging. "Righ' now I figure I'm gettin a shower first. 'F they're on th's train, I'm gonna see 'm plenty soon- so I'm gonna get rid 'f th' ice feelin," he declares, soon scarfing some skillet down.
Naturally, this means what comes next comes through stuffed cheeks. At least no food is flying. "PhfffeEEhh, truce f'r what, y' jus' cooked me a snack!" he laughs, swallowing the mouthful. "Ain' my fault yer 's orange as th' carrots! Train lock up all th' dyes 'n bleaches?" Katsuya adds with a grin.
no subject
He hesitantly offers Kaseri an uncooked carrot, but nearly drops it when the blond goes on.
"...what did I just say about mocking the orange."
He narrows his eyes.
no subject
Which is to say it's not at all innocent, and he's really really REALLY aware that he can go very far with this and not get decked for it.
Kaseri takes the carrot. "What, y' don't think I would've figured out th' fryin' pan! Had t' eat somethin' b'fore righ'?" he asks, quietly not thinking about how 'something' was normally poorly microwaved rice at the apartment with his dad.
A pause.
The smile grows. "Ain' mockin' 'f it's true."
no subject
Kaiba just...continues to stare. He's really jealous of that blue. Truly.
"Come on. Even you aren't that clueless. You know what I meant."
no subject
He doesn't need visions to remember what his Kaiba has, that others likely have as well. "Uh. ...But I mean, or'nge ain' tha' bad, uh..."
He's already backing toward that door now.
no subject
"I'm taken, for your information. And showers are back by the cabins."
The ice has crept back into his voice. Yeah...maybe it's time for them to break apart and cool off.
and....a wrap arrives...
Now. That's weird. And definitely not the reason he froze, but sure, he'll let Kaiba think it for now. After all-
The real reason is far, far worse...and he'd rather not explain how he knows about that one either. So instead he nods, eyes still wide even as he half automatically stuffs the rest of the skillet in his mouth like a squirrel so he can leave the pan at the side.
"..S...Sure thing Kaiba," he eventually manages, as if there was anything to voice a confirmation to. "...Thanks f'r th' tip."
With that, he's ducking out as fast as he can with Kaseri galloping at his side.
Hopefully they don't have to talk about that anytime soon.
