Meeting of the medical minds

Who: Ichigo, Wen Ning, The Doctor, any and all healers
Where: Medical carriage
When: Grasshopper day 2, morning
What: After settling in, Ichigo goes to offer his help in the medical car
Warnings: Anyone who gets hurt randomly could totally come by. Otherwise, please come meet the eager med student if you are a fellow healer. He'll nerd at you.

The second day on the train was starting out much better than the day before. For one thing, he was dry. And for another, he hadn't needed to go scrambling for his combat pass. The guide he'd gotten for the train had said there was a medical car, so he made his way there after eating. He might only be a student, but surely he could see if they needed any help with anything. After knocking on the door, Ichigo slid it open and poked his head inside. "Hello? I hope I'm not interrupting anything."

Misa is in the medical car, because she's got a blister on her hand. It's a simple thing, but Jocko and Freema had always taught her to get simple things treated quickly, lest they become something else.

She's going through the medical supplies, looking for the small bandaids - really, it doesn't need gauze or anything - when she feels the approach of something... different.

She doesn't turn to look at the person who speaks, having just dumped the bandaids on the floor. "Kriff." She mutters, softly.

"If you're looking for one of the medics, I'm the only one here at the moment." Her voice is tentative, and she's small, with jet black hair to her hips. She really doesn't want to heal anyone again. Not after last time. She still has nightmares.

"Oh." She says, finally looking up at him. She frowns. "I think there's a rotation around here somewhere. If not, talk to Wen Qing. Or The Doctor. They're usually in here." She shrugs, finally bandaging her hand. She's been sewing so much, she got a blister. Frustrating.

She bobs a curtsey. "My name is Misa. I've been here a few months." She explains. "Mostly, I just watch so the Doctor and Wen Qing can get some rest and time off. I... don't like healing people."

Not anymore. She'd learned her lesson.

She frowns. Why do people keep bowing to her? It's not proper. She's just a courtesan-in-training. "No, it's still forming." She says. "It'll burst in a few days." She knows that, too. It's just a little something extra from the Force. She's not interested in knowing anything extra.

It is in some cultures, but even they do not bow to a courtesan-in-training. It's just the way it is. That's fine, because she's well used to being snubbed. To be seen so much here is odd.

She struggles with the bandage. "Would you mind?" She's ruined two bandages so far, trying to put it on her finger.

She shakes her head, waist length hair fluttering slightly. "No, thank you. Is there anything I can help you with?" She asks, looking up at him.

"I'd speak to Wen Qing. She's the one that I think is in charge." She says, honestly. But she's not sure. "Mostly, between missions, it's minor things." She holds up her hand. "Like a blister. Missions is where you'll be needed."

Misa frowns. "That depends on what they are. My first was a danger of frostbite. The second was in space, with all it's inherent dangers." She shrugs. "People always need medics."

Wen Qing had been sitting in the examination room as she so often did, using the relative quiet of the medical car to read her textbooks and reference them with the train's medical database.

She looked up at the door opening. "No, you're not interrupting," she assured, already slipping from her chair and sizing Ichigo up for any visible injuries. "Are you in need of medical help?"

She brightened immediately at hearing this, her mind relaxing from the alert stance she had already snapped into. "I didn't realize we have any medical students on the train," she admitted, "you're very welcome to help out. I'm sure we can find you tasks here, though I'm not in charge here, as such. I'm just one of the doctors who help out. There's no hierarchy as such."

"Then we will find something for you to do. I think it would be nice if we could always have someone on call here in the medical car but I've yet to speak to the other healers about that. I'm here often since it's one of the most peaceful places to study."

Catching herself, she bowed deeply. "I'm Wen Qing, formerly doctor and apothecary of the Qishan Wen sect. I spend most of my days familiarizing myself with the medical advancements over the past centuries."

"I would appreciate it very much, and I'm sure so would the other medical staff. We've had a lot on our hands lately."

She sat down again on the chair and pointed for Ichigo to sit with her, though the only other place to sit was the exam bed. "You said you are a student. You didn't happen to arrive with any books, did you? We... or well, mostly I, with some help, have been trying to build up a collection of medical textbooks."

"I'm not quite sure how we earn them, either," Wen Qing admits with a slight frown, "as I understand it people who contribute a lot to the community and missions are given more points. But it took me quite a while to collect some, don't worry about that for now. If you need any specific books to continue your studies, I can buy them, or we can ask one of the people with many points to help out. Most everyone is willing to help the medical staff, contributions to the medical car help everyone. I've been thinking we could ask for more equipment once we have a decent library, though I'm not sure yet what would be most useful."

"That's a very good point," she agreed, already looking pained at the memory of her first day on the train. "I've found the variety of patients the biggest problem here. On the day I arrived, I treated someone for an adverse reaction I had never even heard of. Since then I've supervised a giant spider moult into a... different stage of being a giant spider/human hybrid and I've come across aliens and elves and..." Yeah, just thinking about it again made the headache return. She rubbed her temples. "One of the books I received covers a number of species but the others don't. Asking specifically for books from other worlds would be useful. They're in the train library, if you want to take a look at them at some point."

She looked a little surprised and a lot pleased by the question and the eagerness to get started. "It's a bookshelf in the quiet car. You can't miss it. If you'd like to check it out right away, simply walk from here in the direction of the dining car."

She thinks for a moment, letting her eyes wander through the room, before shaking her head.

"Thank you, but not right now. I've been here a lot lately since Xue Yang used to require around-the-clock supervision, so it's tidier than ever right now."
