Who: Aziraphale (and Ferdinand, sometimes) & YOU
Where: All over
When: Grasshopper, days 1 through 4
What: The angel goes about his day-to-day on the train. There's a new music coach. There's books to be read, a garden to be appreciated, food to be prepared and eaten. There's also virtually no privacy, there's mysteries afoot, and the angel has a lot on his mind.
Warnings: None at the moment, will change if applicable.
I. Music Carriage
When he's making his way away from the sleeper cars and towards the front of the train one day, Aziraphale is surprised to find himself in a space he doesn't recognize. It takes him a few seconds to really realize what has happened, standing there staring out at the room.
Once the confusion lets up enough for him to move, he curiously steps towards the instruments, inspecting them as he goes. There's quite the collection, he would have to admit, and he supposes it might be a good way to combat the dull moments. Art does feed the mind, after all.
When he wanders his way toward the screens, he spends a good amount of minutes hesitantly trying to make sense of what he's seeing. It takes him a while to figure out they're music tracks, and he certainly isn't sure exactly how to listen to them. He does spot the earphones, plucking a pair, looking between them and the screen.
The angel has never quite looked into the wonders of the digital age of music...
II. Library
Aziraphale misses his bookshop oh so dearly.
All of his tomes, his first editions, his scrolls, his hymn books, all of it. He's lost all of it once, and was lucky to get it back - well, most of it, anyway -, only to then find himself tossed into unknown worlds for reasons even more unknown, and not a proper bookshop or collection to be seen. Still, he'd have to admit that the train at least has more publications than the islands he found himself on before.
So, most days, he makes due. He makes his way to the library and makes his pick. Usually he takes away two or three books at a time, and is hardly satisfied, but it passes the hours. Lately, though, he's also been on the lookout for something a bit more...non-fiction. Something that might give any more context to this place.
This time, however, he finds something properly familiar - Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. He's somewhat surprised to see it, and he's quite definitely read many, many times. Perhaps another one wouldn't hurt - it'll certainly hit a little different, this time.
On another day, he's tucked himself away in one of the booths with a couple of magazines about the history of the train, and seems fully engrossed in his reading.
III. Greenhouse
Out of all the coaches, with the exception of the kitchen and dining ones, Aziraphale finds himself stopping more often in greenhouse. He doesn't partake in any actual gardening, but he still appreciates the work that's done here. Surprising how the plants can survive here without any actual real source of sunlight. Must be something with the lights. Unless the colors of the void do actually aid them for the half day they shine all around the carriage.
The lights, yes - the angel finds himself often standing in place for minutes on end - a whole 20 of them, one time - simply staring out into the technicolor swirls and shapes. He's thinking about something, surely, many somethings, from what time it is all the way to the meaning of existence within the space between worlds.
He doesn't like looking out through the glass when the colors aren't there. There's something about it that feels rather dreadful.
One of the days, he approaches a specific plot, one that has a decent size mount of dirt with what looks like a hole into the inside of it (a burrow?). He examines the growing plants quite closely and seems to smile to himself. Reaching out to brush the knuckle of his pointer finger on one of the growing leaves. If you're paying attention, you might notice a brown spot on one of those leaves turn green in the blink of an eye.
IV. Kitchen & Dining coaches
The angel can often be found in the kitchen and dining coaches at any given time of day, and through most of the night, specially when most of the passengers are reasonably asleep. Often, he'll tuck himself away in a booth in the dining cart with tea and some books or magazines. Or he'll be in the kitchen making said tea several times a day, or plucking away bottles of wine from the fridges, or looking for something sweet.
One afternoon, he decides to take a look at the available recipes, and finds that they have changed since the last time he checked. There's also a clear theme, such as before. He does suppose there's a lot you can do with carrots.
The one that catches his eye is carrot crepe rolls. He reads through the recipe and finds himself quite peckish.
Well, perhaps he could go ahead and give it a try...
V. Cabin Room
Since his arrival in the train a couple of weeks ago, the angel has barely spent time in his assigned cabin. As someone who's not entirely into the sleeping thing as an option, he's often quick to leave the room after every morning reset, with the exception of maybe spending a minute or two checking on Crowley and whether or not he would like to accompany the angel for breakfast.
However, with access to quiet rooms now being much more restricted, the angel has taken to sometimes returning to the cabin room after breakfast - taking a stop at the library and seeing if anything catches his eye -, and checking if it's vacant.
Should it be, he takes his tea inside and sits on the bottom bunk on his side of the room, taking to reading through whatever he got his hands on. They're usually smaller books, and not necessarily his taste, but he makes due.
As of late, he's found himself reading a rather curious novel about a divorcee necromancer and her search for new, true love within a cult...
VI. All over
Of course, there's many other ways to spend your time, and there's plenty of it when you don't sleep, and when most modern forms of entertainment aren't quite your taste. Also when you find the library quite lacking, but that might be a little rude to say.
The angel spends most of his days on the aforementioned carriages, but also often stopping in the quiet carriage, peeking through the window of the last quiet room left. He doesn't mean to pry, only to check if it's empty and if he may seclude himself in there for some peace and quiet. Not that it's quite relaxing when you're right next door to a prison cell...
Sometimes he passes by the cinema, checking for a certain demon, or seeing if the show on screen is something a bit more amenable to his tastes.
One time, when he finds himself rather bored, he even wanders his way into the dressing carriage.
They should be up for a stop soon, right? Perhaps some fresh air will do him some good.

library
A lot of them are quite complicated but he can read very well now so he doesn't mind. He spots a title he recognised, Merry Little Voidtrain. He had seen some of the cartoon in the cinema, so that would be fun to read about!
As he stands up he spots the man and grins at him, tilting his head to see what book he has chosen.]
Oh you are reading Romeo and Juliet, sir!
no subject
Oh, yes. I'm quite familiar with it. [ So many times he's read that. Not to mention the fact that he was around when it was written. And actually knew the man. ]
no subject
[He's hoping to try again soon, he gets better at reading all the time. So it won't be long before he can finish it.]
no subject
[ He opens the book to flip through the pages. He remembers that Crowley didn't quite like this one as much as 'the funny ones'. ]
Read it many times. It's a classic.
no subject
no subject
[ He settles on a random page, eyeing over the familiar words. ]
Star crossed lovers, warring factions, casualties of war...all quite dreadful, if beautifully put.
no subject
[He grins.] Is it your favourite book?
no subject
He looks up from the book, closing it.]
Well, it's quite difficult to pick any favorites. I will say it's a classic masterpiece but it's hard to put so many others under it.
[ He considers for a moment.]
Do you have a favorite book?
no subject
But I think I have two best books! One is called Gon, the Little Fox and one is Night on the Galactic Railroad! [He had never thought that one day he would be travelling on a flying train though!]
no subject
What a coincidence. I lived in a bookshop, myself. Oh, I do miss it so. [ Sounding rather forlorn as he says it.]
I don't believe I've heard of those two.
no subject
no subject
I do hope to get back to it, one day. After all of this.
[ He does listen to the boy's description rather curiously. While libraries would never be his pick for his own business (of sorts), he did quite enjoy them, of course. And the kind he's describing sound borderline heavenly, pardon the turn of phrase. ]
Elfnein? I don't believe I've ever heard that name.
no subject
That would be strange, would she even still be a god then? It's too big to think about right now.]
She's here on the train sir! She really likes reading too and researching things! Her god-name is Gegute.
no subject
I don't believe I've met her.
no subject
no subject
Hopefully back to her home. Seems to be the rule in these kinds of places.
[ Well, at least that was in the previous place he was in. He's just assuming the train works in a similar way, but he really has no way of knowing. ]
no subject
[A train like this he means, not a regular train. Regular trains didn't fly. At least not in Japan.
He hopes miss Hibiki went back to the heavens though or to... wherever she had been before she had become a god.]
no subject
[ Had the islands been no more than a stop? Would they return to it? He would rather not. But he doesn't have any actual answers - there doesn't seem to be anyone who does.]
The world I was in before arriving on the platform was not my own.
no subject
[He hoped it had been, even if that might be a bit sad because he might miss it!]
no subject
Can't say it was a pleasant experience. In fact, I'd go so far as to say the train is a bit of an upgrade.
no subject
no subject
Indeed. It's not ideal, I suppose, but quite a lot more comfortable. Still, hopefully we may get to return to our own worlds soon enough.
no subject
[He hopes so! He seems like such a nice person, he can only hope he came from a nice place!]
no subject
But the thing about that question is that there's a lot he could say. He could say what's most accurate. Or he could speak of the place he chose to stay. Or he could speak of all of it.
Well...he'll keep it simple. ]
Oh, it was quite lovely. It's far too varied and vast to sum it up in just a handful of words, but I do miss it so.
no subject
I hope you get to go back there some time, maybe the train will take us there!
[He would like to see it! Everyone's worlds! It was so interesting seeing different places and he just hoped everyone who missed their worlds could go there again!]
