Blue Meeting:
Who: Gladio + Blue Team and Friends.
Where: Dining carriage. (Change of venue, larger space)
When: Grasshopper 15th after lunch.
What: The first Blue Team meeting with the new Leadership in place.
Warnings: Unknown. Possible cuteness. Snack induced jealousy. Will update if something comes up!
To say that Gladio was nervous would be an understatement. He hadn't been able to get much sleep the night before worrying if this would work out the way he had planned. Would people be receptive to what he asked? Would people even come to this meeting? He had been assured by several people there would be at least some (who could resist lovingly prepared snacks?) but it remained to be seen.
Gladio sat at a table, there was a notepad and a pencil in his hand. He would be taking notes of things he deemed important.
Once people started filtering in, Gladio began to feel somewhat better. Calmer. He watched them milling about with a smile. It was only when he thought there was enough that he rose and gave a call to get people's attention.
"First, I just wanna thank everyone for coming. I know it was short notice, but between the mission and platform day coming up, my hands were tied.
In future I'm going to do my best to have a meeting like this before every big mission, once we get the info. I don't think a little organisation can hurt. And... with that in mind. The reason I wanted to get you all here. I want everyone to get to know each other. And I want to learn more about you all. I'd like, if you're all willing, to assign simple roles within the team to each person for missions. If you don't want to be part of that, just let me know. That's your choice." He smiled wider. "If you do... I'll get to you. If you've any questions, I'm open to them. Piccolo and WangJi are also here to answer your questions and concerns. Not just here and not just for missions, but any you have. We're here for you."
With that his smile became a grin. "Now... I know two of our number have been working hard to make delicious snacks, so do me a favour? Make them happy and dig in! Enjoy them and... chat. Mingle. Get to know your fellow blue. We're a small team, lets make us the best team!"

oh boy oh boy oh boy
And yet...
Idly munching on some snacks while Kaseri wanders around to meet and mingle with other team-mates (read: mooch attention and food), Katsuya ends up sitting across from Gladio- a situation he half saw, but admittedly sort of hoped wouldn't be happening. If only because every other time he tries to explain what goes on with the weird powers, it takes five or so times before it gets through.
Oh well!] ...So...
[...] I guess...y'r gonna ask me questions righ'..?
no subject
Id you don't mind? I'd really like to. But it's not mandatory.
[It would limit his ability to effectively assign his team roles come the next mission.]
me looking at my scar map like UHHHH WHATS VISIBLE,
[He absolutely looks nervous. And in the light of the train, it might be possible to just barely catch a glance at the hairline scars on his eyes by then- he sees fine, but having scars There says something.
There's another running between the forefinger and thumb, on his left hand.]
Me poking at Gladio's VERY VISIBLE scars... though he is wearing a shirt... Scars tell a story.
[Gladio was taking everything in. He would catch sight of the scars, but wouldn't bring attention to them, not yet anyway. He hoped to learn more via his conversation.]
I was hoping to get to know you more. Find out what makes you tick. Any skills you have. Anything you'd like to tell me.
LAUGHS yeah Jou's worst are under the sweater
Well uh...I us'd t' work security I guess- so I'm pr'tty decent w' fist fightin', an' like...basic disarmin' an' such. Technically I can use a gun, but... [he grimaces.] It uh. I never really used it outside th' mandatory trainin' material.
[He doesn't just drop everything all at once- he'll let Gladio speak as he goes as well, and honestly it makes it a bit easier that way- less awkward if it's a conversation, and all that.]
Poor baby... Needs more hugs!
An interesting job... So I'm wondering. Is there anything you'd like to learn? Say... would you like to learn how to fight with a sword? A bow? Or is it weapons in general you have issue with?
no subject
Nyhhh...I'm better off impr'visin' t' be honest. That 'r usin' a staff I guess. Pr'tty decent if y' hand me a good stick as tall as a person is. Fr'm th' sounds of things though, tha' works out here. [He refers, of course, to the part where the train apparently just never arms anyone.]
no subject
The train won't arm us or let us buy weapons, but the makings of one... We've people here who are good with their hands. If it's a weapon you think you can use, I can do my best to get you one.
... Though couldn't a light-weight metal be better than a stick? [A big grin.] Maybe with some extras, if I hand it over to Tony.
no subject
[Oh right.] Er. That ain't somethin' I can do by th' way- tha's Kaseri. She's psychic type, so lot's 'f floatin' stuff aroun' an' all but mos'ly she's good f'r what y' saw in th' tunnels. Coolin' folk off, healin' small cuts...an' I guess clearin' up whatever was cloudin' up Mami's gem?
[He shrugs.]
no subject
Hold up, lets go back a bit here and start again.
[He grinned.]
Tell me what YOU are comfortable with. Not "if there's no other choices", I need to know what your primary options are. What you're prefer over everything else. Skills you think'll be useful on a mission.
Do you think you'd be better in an offensive position or a defensive one?
no subject
...m' fists?
[He frowns.] Man I told y' I'm better at impr'visin righ'? Primary options are no other choices. I work w' what I got, tha's tha'. 'F there's somethin' to fight, I'm gonna go fight it, th' end!
[It seemed simple enough to him. Perhaps a concerning thing to hear if Gladio's familiar with the typical sort to end up in Blue though.] 'Nothin' is what I'm most familiar w'th- staff's more like...'f y' know y' can't get close enough w'thout hittin the bitey end 'f somethin'. It'd just be in th' way otherwise.
no subject
Not here, you won't, kiddo. [He didn't look up as he said this.]
My goal is to keep you guys from dying. There's no 'to the end' here. And if you're gonna be stupid enough to run into a fight you've no way of getting out of, I'm going to have some serious words. And none of them'll be polite.
[Gladio looked up then, expression serious.]
I'm tempted to team you up with Romeo. He has magic he can use as a shield. It will offer you protection. But your job would be to make sure he is protected in turn. You die, no one's protecting him.
no subject
[He scowls, already feeling more inclined to leave out any magic nonsense for now. I fight hard not dumb, geeze! Y' think my boss'd have trusted me with crap if I was runnin' in blind? I'll take th' damn staff 'f it makes t' feel better, but I'm jus' sayin' my skills were in usin' what's there! I ain' stickin' around 'f it's too hot t' handle, geeze...
[Case in point, the battles that pushed him to that point were sort of a 'no-run possible' situation.]
...an Romeo's a good kid, but I ain't workin' w'th someone who can't stop callin' me sir, 's weird, [he grumbles. At least it's a secondary excuse though.] Rather go w'th Madoka 'r Mami t' be honest, we fought th' weird crawly things t'gether b'fore already. Plus Mami's got tha' rock she needs clear f'r her magic, an' apparen'tly nothin' kept it clean until Kaseri showed up an' gave it a shot.
no subject
I'll kindly ask you to calm the hell down. [He kept his own voice calm and level, he was doing his best here]
And Madoka calling you 'mister' is any better than 'sir'? Just roll with it, kid. It's no different than your accent, they can't change the way they are. But maybe if you get to know him, become a friend, he'd stop calling you sir and use your name?
And besides... [He tapped his pencil against his notepad with a small smile.] I already have ideas for where those two need to be. I need more defensive types, and I think I'd like to put you on that team.
hurriedly re-reads like four threads to make sure this madoka bit is accurate kjghfdg
Even if he somehow manages to feel even less calm than he did while protesting.] If y' had a clue how we interacted, y'd know she doesn't do tha', [he remarks.]
An' I didn' say I didn' see 'm as a friend, jus' tha' it's gonna take a bit more time b'fore tha' works out as a partnership deal. I've asked him not t' use 'sir'. He keeps f'rgettin' so far. Sure, ain't been that long, but it's still wiggin' me out, an' I don't want tha' gettin' in th' way. I'm fine fightin' as a big group w'th 'm f'r now, but it's jus' gonna be weird if it's two.
[But, with narrowed eyes he figures he's gotten something to think about here.] Mind, 'f th's is f'r a bigger defense deal, you better have a lot more th'n two planned as it is, so I guess it shouldn' be a problem... [he mutters. He gets that blue's small- didn't take a genius to figure that out when he was watching everyone leave at various platforms- but there has to be more than just two for defense.]
no subject
... At what point did I say it would be just you two? I said I wanted to buddy you up, because he can use a shield that can protect you. Getting in close with fists is a lot more dangerous than, say, a sword. Or a gun. You're more at risk. Romeo can mitigate that risk.
[He sat back in his seat and lifted a hand to idly rub at his right eye.]
Look. As I see it, we've about a month, give or take, till there's a new mission. They're generally regular. That gives you a month to get to know the kid better. It also gives me a month to get to know all of you better, and fine tune a mission plan.
While I'm probably going to give people roles, teams to be a part of, nothing at all will stop those teams from mingling and joining forces. You get me? We're a team, at the end of the day. And while each person will have a job to do, in the end we're all going to be working together. That... is my plan.
no subject
The blond hums a bit, and ultimately shrugs.] I'll take y'r word for it though...
[Which is to say, he's listening, but still suspicious. It's probably as good as it's getting for now though- and it's as Gladio said. There's a decent amount of time to sort it out, by which point the blond will hopefully have softened up to logic.
Hopefully.] So y' want me to stick w'th Romeo b'cause of shields. Got it. What abou' everythin' else though?
[The combat part he gets now- stay with Romeo, Romeo has shields. But if this is a meeting for Blue Team over all, there's bound to be more Gladio wants to ask about...right?]
no subject
And yes, he can shield you so you can fight. It should keep you safe. And you can keep him safe.
[He scratched idly at his cheek with the end of his pencil.]
Then tell me what else you can do? We've got the fighting part down. Each mission is different. But do you have any strengths in other places? Weaknesses I need to know about?
no subject
...I don' have my lockpicks here, so tha's out, but hones'ly th' las' time I had t' use those, I wound up havin' t' jus' break th' door an' bolt anyway... [Whatever door he broke must have been cheap granted, but hey. As it is, lockpicking skills need lockpicks.] Ahhhh...
Oh! I can drive too! [....] ...I dunno if tha's any use either though. [Maybe one day they'll have a mission that needs someone to drive a truck.] And...
...I guess...navigatin'? I dunno abou' tha' one either, since th' stars ain't gonna be th' same...beyond tha', I doubt bein' able t' handle farm animals an' such is any use... [The woes of being thrown from one world to the next- all of your farming, herding, and navigating skill goes out the window.]
no subject
And you don't know until the mission what'll come in useful. [He grinned.]
None of us know what do expect when the time comes. Who knows what kind of world we'll end up on? Maybe the next mission we'll actually have to deal with farm animals or driving. If we do, you'll be the one I come running to.
no subject
[Dueling, Yo-Yos...the stuff he hasn't said about future sight...He'd bet more on his herding whistle taking effect on a mission, than needing any of that stuff, so he's pretty sure that's it that can be considered 'relevant'.]
no subject
I guess if that's all there is to know, then we're about done here.
But if anything comes to mind, if you've anything you wanna discuss with me, suggestions or anything. Just let me know, alright?
no subject
Katsuya nods, and grins.] Sure thing! ...And uh...guess I oughta vacate th' seat f'r whoever's next huh?
no subject
[Gladio grinned back and then pointed with his pencil across the way.]
But there are cookies over there, go help yourself! They're real good.
and wrap !
Heck yeah, free food!]
