A new platform [intro post September]
For those on the train
“Good morning passengers, it is day one of the month of Bassoon.” The train announces the morning the month changes. It seems the train counts months in days of thirty. Team Points have been updated on the system.
The day continues as most days do, chores, eating, getting ready for another day. But those who suspect that a change of month may bring something else are correct. It is only an hour or two later that there is another announcement.
“Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. Exit from void imminent.”
By now they should know to hold on as the train jerks and jolts. There is only fog outside the windows but the train soon comes to a stop. The doors hiss open.
As they exit into the fog they may notice Evie exiting from the luggage carriage door. Much like Hibiki the last time they were on a platform. She leaves the train, backpack on her back as she walks through the station. She heads no call, reacts to no words and cannot be stopped as she walks to the ticket barrier and disappears through it.
Strange. But even stranger still is that there on the platform that whole time is Evie. Dressed in purple, backpack on back, with her are others. Waiting for the train.
For new arrivals
At first all they can see if steam. Billowing around them as they come to their senses. They are standing, in clothes that are not their own, styles they might not even recognise. They are carrying a rucksack on your back. For a moment it seems to just be them, alone in the white haze but then the steam begins to fade and they realise they aren’t alone.
The platform is not very large, but it hold twelve figures all facing the tracks, all wearing similar clothing. The tracks stretch left and right into steam, or perhaps fog. Nothing can be seen to either side. There is a wall around the platform and the only entrance is a ticket barrier. It cannot be open, nor do there seem to be any staff.
What there is, is a train. Jet black and gleaming where it stands on the rails.Voidtrecker Express is emblazoned in the engine in gold. There is a hiss as the doors slide open.
Out step a selection of people, some less human than others, wearing clothes just like those worn by those on the platform.
The Train
The doors hiss open. Those from the train may encourage those on the platform to board. It’s not like there is anywhere else to go and even if there was, you feel a pull. A need to board, a feeling that staying on the platform would not be a good thing.
Once on board there is lots to explore. Passengers both old and new will hopefully be delighted to see the boredom of this train journey is somewhat alleviated by the introduction of a game carriage. Plenty of games, both familiar and new to play with your new travelling companions.
Each ICP shows the same message. If Red team go and look they will find a box in the luggage compartment that contains their prize. A dralite themed cake lolly each. There are enough for the new members of Red team too, share in your teams previous success!
The food stores have been topped up with new fresh food. Salmon has taken over as the primary ingredient of choice. Hopefully everyone likes fish!
New passengers will find their tickets allow them into their cabins. They may need to negotiate for beds, especially if they want a top bunk!
Room is tight but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches and you will hopefully find a pillow for your bed if it has not been nabbed by a roommate, there are also spare blankets for if it gets cold.
Departure
A second horn sounds to encourage any stragglers and the doors slide shut. For those who boarded two weeks ago they will know what is coming next.
The train sets off, the fog obscuring the view as it picks up speed.
"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express.” A female-coded artificial sounding voice echoes throughout the train. "Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."
The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog filled sky.
"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated."
Hopefully someone warns you that you really want to heed that warning because a moment later there is a shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding.
As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever changing colours.

[a scruffy-haired man in a purple polo is crouched at the far end of the platform Hattori's investigating, his attention focused on the last car in view on the tracks. rubbing his chin, expression scrunched in thought.
idly, his hand moves to start tracing invisible guides for himself as he squints at the connectors.]
Less magnetization would mean a lighter connection impact, which might explain it, but...
no subject
He wouldn't be a detective if he wasn't curious about outliers like that. He comes closer and watches the stranger for a moment.]
Oi! Onii-san. What are you doing?
no subject
[onii-san? wow, he hasn't heard that one tossed around in a while...and especially not directly at him! not unless it was someone under the age of ten or--]
Oh. [nope. over ten here, definitely. Manabu looks up over his shoulder, blinking owlishly at the new face before reminding himself that any new face? was new to all of this.
his mouth tugs on one side, sheepish, as he stands back up, his head ducking in a curt, apologetic nod.]
Sorry. I was just checking something out. You looking for something? [he sure hopes it's not another cat.]
no subject
Checking for what?
[He comes closer, glancing at the tracks the other had been looking at. Or had he been looking at the train's wheels?]
I was.. earlier, yes. But I heard even if we were with people moments before waking up here they aren't likely with us anymore.
[He pauses and gives a little laugh at how that sounded.]
Not in a morbid way! Sorry! I meant that this platform is somewhere else and they're not on it with us.

[He looks around at the cluster of people milling around the platform and then back to the stranger.]
How long ago was the 'get-go'? My friend says he's been here two weeks.

no subject
[His family was going to be worried sick about him after a day or two. How would they feel if they didn't hear from him in a month?]
We've got to find a way for everyone to get home. What have you all tried so far?
no subject
It's tricky. Trying to bust up or mess with the train in motion is dangerous; we don't know what the void it traverses would do if we were exposed to it. And even the people who tried to linger behind the last stop wound up aboard all the same...
[he hesitates, looking out toward the foggy distance beyond the ticketing booth.]
Except the one who actually did leave. She didn't answer any of us on her way, and no one could catch up...
no subject
I wonder how she did it..
[He looks back at the man he was talking to and considers him for a moment.]
What's your name, Nii-san? I'm Heiji Hattori. I'm a high school detective and I'll help you figure this out!
[He reaches up, like he was going to touch something on top of his head but nothing's there. For the tiniest second, Heiji pouts and drops his hand again.]
no subject
not that the space train cop can really split hairs about niche, right?]
Aa, yeah? Sounds interesting. I'm Manabu Yuuki. I'm an officer of SDF's Sirius platoon. [he hesitates. yeah, that...won't mean anything to a high school detective, will it?
he shrugs a little.]
Basically...I have a career involving trains and mysterious stuff like this back where I'm from.
no subject
Nice to meet you, Manabu.
[Yeah, he got a confused look on his face at that acronym. Although once it was explained his expression was suddenly hopeful.]
Really? How do we go home?
no subject
[he deflates a little, mouth twitching.]
I'm, uh. We're all...still...working on that part, actually. Sorry.
no subject
Oh. Are these trains the same ones you used to work on?
[He's a little confused.]

no subject
Has anyone climbed up on the front of the train to see if they can get the conductor's attention?
no subject
[half-true: he knows he feels not great about it, that's for sure!]
no subject
[He huffs, visibly unhappy with this idea.]
Come on, Manabu! Let's go look again.
[He climbs back up on the platform and heads to the front of the train.]
no subject
[he wants to protest, bring up the solid wall of steel where a door would be, but... honestly? such a discovery only settles in one's gut after seeing it for one's self; he'd not believe himself either.
he sighs through his nose, giving his neck one last scratch before hustling a step to catch up and climb on board.]
To your right. Door buttons are those yellow--yeah, there.
[he'll let the kid figure it out and take the lead.]
no subject
Uh.. I was.. I don't understand. I was going to the front of the train to look in the windows. How..
[He did feel better simply being in the train. There had been some kind of pressure to board, but he'd been ignoring it.]
no subject
[he blinks back, exchanging the confused look, head tilting.] You weren't...meaning to board in the first place?
no subject
[He'd really been hoping Manabu would know why this had happened, but the other guy looked just as confused as he did.]
Is this place possessed or something?
no subject
I...not that I'm aware of, no. Maybe your mind just wandered because of all the fog? There's really not much else to see outside the train there, so...
no subject
No, this can't be natural. I have this really bad feeling out here that I should get back on the train.
[He looks around, seeing that quite a number of people who had been on the platform are now boarding.]
Why..?
[The feeling is getting stronger, almost like a ringing in his ears but he's not actually hearing anything.]
no subject
[Manabu doesn't realize how cryptic it is to say that before the automated voice does, but there you go. sure adds to the great first impression he and the train are making!
he offers an arm out.]
Come on.
