Open-Log--less talk, more action? With Prompts and OTA [Month of Horseshoe]

Trunks had finally found his cabin, and met his room-mates. One of whom was a book. With very odd ideas, that had Trunks raising an eyebrow at it. (He didn't really do well with 'overlords' okay?) After that it had been investigating his rucksack--and he had his capsule case. With his mini-fridge (yay), but two capsules of clothes (his armor and his normal stuff) otherwise. WHERE WAS THE TIME MACHINE?!?!?!

Still, not much he could do now. Besides, he had a whole train to explore. Along with a spar--and Cassie had said she'd usually be in the gym car. Come to think of it, Trunks would probably be spending a lot of time in the gym car himself. So, time to explore his new 'home'.

[ He breaks the hold between their two swords and tries to dash from the side, doing a quick forward flip to give his strike momentum. ]

You got it. Can't just fight dummies, after all. If we're wanting to grow stronger. Let me know if I can return the sparring favor one of these days, too.

[He's quick, but Trunks is quicker. Countering the move with a dive-roll to the side that then turned into a backflip. Crouched from the landing, Trunks didn't wait however and went on the offensive with his own sword.]

I'm usually here in the training gym, so not hard to find.

[ Not that he was one to talk. Roland's brows shoot up, impressed at the smooth move, but won't give Trunks an opening as much as possible. That push of momentum was enough to force Roland back into the defensive, which he only breaks with a decisive push back that gave him a quick chance to rush. ]

I've been learning, but it's more recent.

[Trunks goes back on the defensive with Roland's rush.]

Growing up, I read and was home-schooled. Also helped my mother out in her lab as needed.

[ Trunks mentions his mother with fondness, and that gives Roland an immediate good impression of him already. With a decisive swing of his sword in a diagonal cut, he breaks the hold and pauses for a while, giving them a window to breathe. ]

Oh yeah? What've you been learning? Tell me about it.

[ And there's some genuine interest in that, for certain. ]

[They needed a window to breathe? Well, a small break is probably good.]

Mostly just things I've not had time or the opportunity for growing up. Like movies in a theater. Cassie introduced me to that, when I'm used to watching at home.

[ He swings his sword to the side, swiping away at phantom traces. More of a habit than anything else. Roland regards Trunks with a slightly furrowed brow. No opportunity to watch movies growing up, huh...? ]

That's unfortunate. I grew up watching lots of movies. Cassie had a Ninja Mime viewing before that I quite enjoyed. Have you watched enough to have a preferred genre?

[ Roland maximizes the pause in the training, placing a hand on his hip for a brief moment. ]

She showed me Ninja Mime 3. I'm glad I was allowed to laugh at it.

[Trunks lets himself relax in to a loose-ready stance.]

I basically grew up in a world under siege. Two homicidal and psychotic androids that no one can really stop or stand up to do whatever they want, and it's not clear where or when they'll strike. There is a resistance of sorts; Mom and I do what we can to keep hope alive and there, but it's hard.

[His whole life? Trunks looked to be in his late teens...]

[ Ninja Mime 3 was definitely much better than Ninja Mime 4, but Cassie did warn Roland about that...Anyway, as he prepares to return to the spar, those words aren't what makes him pause to give Trunks a certain look. His story is not totally different from others he's heard, but it's never easy to hear about someone's world under attack, with a resistance that may or may not be faltering. And on such young shoulders, too. It's always the kids with the burden. He clicks his tongue against his teeth, feet spread apart and core braced, sword raised. ]

I'm sorry to hear about that, Trunks. Was that still the state of the world when the train took you? [ He won't rush for now, just giving them enough room to talk still. But he's readying himself in case Trunks does go for it first. ]

Yes and no. I was actually in the past, from my view, and an alternate time-line at that since my first trip back had changed things in a way.
[Which would mean it had been his second trip back.]
I was trying to help prevent that past from becoming like my world.

[ He lowers his sword a bit, intrigued. ]

Wow. You...time traveled? [ That's what Trunks was essentially saying, right? ]

[Twice. He's time-traveled twice.]

I did. There wasn't really much choice otherwise.

[ He should have a bingo card for all the insane, magical, out-of-this-world experiences he's bound to experience...Roland simply nods serenely, quite accepting of it, before he gets back into position. ]

Where I come from, time travel's more of a fantasy movie thing. How'd you do it? Magic?

[ A genuine question. ]
