OTA with Closed Prompt - Ninja Mime 3

What: A screening of Ninja Mime 3: Mime in Time

There's less fanfare for this screening than there was for the last one Cassie hosted. She's looking for a somewhat more intimate affair, and she figures the sequel won't draw as much as the first one anyway.

Before she gets there, though, she'll be lingering outside her own cabin, waiting for a certain lavender-haired someone who is particularly invited to pass by.

"They taught you well." Trunks agreed, one corner of his mouth turning up slightly more in half-smirk. "Do you get the smart-mouth from him?" He might be trying to tease once more.

"I tend to think so," Cassie says. "Mom has her moments, though."

On screen, the child uncovers the sorcerer's dark plan: the Pope will be visiting soon, and he aims to hypnotize him into passing a bull that bans pantomime in all of Christendom. He dashes out of the castle, hurrying to tell the others.

"who's the guy with the funny hat?" Not that there weren't plenty of funny hats to be found.

[nutkrusher]

"That's the Pope," Cassie says. "More specifically, it's Jerry Lewis."

Beat.

"If your Earth doesn't have a Jerry Lewis, I'm not gonna be able to explain why that's funny."

[light_of_willpower]

"I think it'll just have to remain a mystery." Trunks confirmed without saying it, that yes--his Earth didn't have a Jerry Lewis. "I'm not even sure if I understand what a Mime is correctly anymore, after watching this."

[nutkrusher]

"Ah, but see, he's a special kind of mime," Cassie says. "A ninja mime. Him being a ninja explains everything."

Dry as the Sahara.

Ironically, mun is a ninja-fangirl.

Her dryness just brought a snort. "I am familiar with what a ninja is, and unless your world is drastically different, they're not some magic 'everything is cool' maker usually." His own tone could rival hers.

[nutkrusher]

"I know a couple who'd impress you," Cassie says. "But this is movie ninjutsu. They don't have to explain anything."

[light_of_willpower]

"You think you know what impresses me, huh?" Trunks replied without thinking, with a smile. But 'movie logic' he could understand. At least insofar as nothing being explained.

[nutkrusher]

"I think I've picked up a few ideas," Cassie says. "I'd be happy to take pointers."

[light_of_willpower]

That just made Trunks chuckle to himself, and shoot a glance her way. "Walked into that one didn't I? Point for you." But the smile remained.

[nutkrusher]

"Well, who's to say we can't both win?"

Smiling a little wider now.

Meanwhile, Jerry Lewis as the Pope continues to be very conspicuously Jerry Lewis as the Pope.

"True. Best solution. I don't often get any kind of win." Trunks agreed, smiling more himself. This was definitely more interesting than whoever Jerry Lewis was.

Cassie's voice softens. "We'll have to fix that here, won't we?"

The mood is broken somewhat by the kiai-ing of arriving ninjas, and the evil sorcerer bellowing in fury at his close-at-hand victory being so jeopardized.

Now he blushed, just a bit, and ducked his head. Nor was he entirely sure what to say in response. Which meant that the kiai-ing and furious bellowing was suddenly very interesting.

They might have to talk about the implications of that later. Her hand lingers around the popcorn for a while as she thinks about them.

Meanwhile, the battle onscreen is a great and elaborate one, battling up and down the nave of the cathedral. The Ninja Mime's motley band appears to have the upper hand. Pope Jerry Lewis realizes the villain's deception, and declares that he will find no safe HAY-ven (glayven) in God's church.

But the villain has one last trick up his sleeve. He would now go back further still in time, to the dawn of the kingdom. He laughs and dives through the portal.

His turn to accidentally brush her hand, as he'd been focused on other things. Just a light brush, before he pulled his hand back as if scalded--nerves more than anything. And the confusion of were they, or weren't they, on a date?

At the villain's last effort though, Trunks shook his head. Movie-logic or not, that's not how time travel works. It is very expected of the villain by this point.

Cassie's eyes dart ever-so-slightly to the left as she senses Trunks's reaction. A slight smile crosses her face and she lets her hand move slightly closer, as though to tell him that it was okay.

Meanwhile, the heroes deduce his plan: he means to eliminate Charlemagne. Without Charlemagne, there is no France. Without France, there is no mime. Without mime, the Earth is surely doomed.

Our hero has no choice but to mime through time once more. This time, though, he's bringing reinforcements.

Was it? That's not helping his blush, but it does bring a shy little smile to his own face. It wasn't like they hadn't held hands to get to the cinema--y'know, to be like if this were a date.

Trunks has no idea who Charlemagne is, or what France is, except from the context in this movie or what he's picked up so far with Cassie. It's kind of a wonder he understands what mime is...

And reinforcements mime'ing through time is just...he has to laugh a bit.

Meanwhile, Cassie gets to the bottom of her drink. It's up to Trunks whether this sound breaks the tension, ruins the moment, or both.

The time travelers now find themselves in a rather more primitive-looking Paris. There's smoke and flashing lights in the distance. Soldiers in chainmail run toward the commotion, crying out to protect their Emperor.

There's a closeup on the hero's determined face. This is the final battle.

It breaks the tension, but doesn't ruin the moment thankfully. The movie already had him chuckling a bit, and the noise of her finishing her soda just adds to the silliness. Trunks might find the hero's determined face more compelling if it wasn't covered in mime-make-up. He can't help the low snort-laugh.

Cassie's grin widens to show teeth as she hears Trunks laughing.

"Oh, just wait until the fight scene gets started."

[light_of_willpower]

"Sorry, sorry, just..." Trunks really doesn't sound that sorry, but he knows he might be being disruptive. Even if Cassie'd said it was okay to laugh, and it was meant to be silly. "Next time, I think I'd like to see your dad in a serious role. Or at least not quite as silly."

[nutkrusher]

"'Serious' is a relative term where Dad is concerned," Cassie says. "He always told me he brings home money, not trophies."

Beat.

"Not acting trophies, anyway."

And speaking of money, it's all on screen for this scene. The flatulist in particular gets some moments in the sun, using his farts to propel himself up the city walls.

"Like I said, a less silly role at least." Trunks conceded, shaking his head because now the film was stretching the level of credibility. Even for silliness.
