[Open] Escapades With A Mad Genius
Who: Senku Ishigami and anyone who wants to spend time with him.
Where: Various
When: Imagination 1-6
What: Senku apparently has all kinds of things to do pre-mission.
Warnings: One prompt is medical in nature, it's not really graphic.
Kitchen
In the absence of a laboratory, Senku appeared to be using cooking to cope. No, he wasn't on the purple team, meaning he wasn't officially cooking, but it was keeping him busy, and no one really wanted him to have idle hands for too long.
From the time they left the platform, until the night before the mission, he could likely be found in there at least once a day working on one project or another.
The first day, he was busy using the new ingredient of honey to make a caramel on the stove, and he had bunches of cilantro and some limes on the counter in front of him, as well as a water carbonatation machine.
After that, he could be found with a few other projects. In one instance he had lemons, honey and coconut oil in front of him. In another, he appeared to be making some kind of marinade with soy sauce and a variety of spice packets and some kind of meat. In a third, he was slicing ginger root and daikon as thinly as he could.
On Imagination day 5, he'd found his way to a few mangoes which since he didn't wear his SCA on the train very often, he didn't get the reminder that peeling mangoes was a bad idea. He'd barely started the first one when he developed a rash on his hands and at least the skin that could be seen swelled up, including his eyes and lips, thanks to urushiol being present between the peel and the fruit. One might stop at that point and deal with the allergic reaction, but Senku proceeded to continue peeling fruit as though he wasn't immensely uncomfortable.
Spa
Senku will likely check out the spa late in the evening when he couldn't sleep one night. For modesty's sake, at least other people's modesty, he will select the requisite orange swimsuit and sink into the water for a little soak. Notably, when wet, his hair collapses into some semblance of ordinary.
He wasn't interested in a massage, but a soak and a steam wouldn't be out of place.
[OOC: Also available, choose your own adventure. Senku haunts most cars, he doesn't sleep a whole lot and he doesn't usually mind company. You can just add whatever you like - don't be afraid of the pre-planned threads, or you can contact me on Discord: Ammeschan#5385 or

"When you arrive, you can't get anything with points, you rely on everyone else to look out for you." Senku didn't comment on what he thought about that, or what he thought about how that was working.
"It's probably, definitely, a reward. Or it's a carrot." Senku explained. "They offer you something nice so you do what they want you to. Everyone gets points so randomly, it makes no sense at all how it works. Some people get a lot of points, some people don't, and we don't know how to maximize the point output, nor are we particularly well organized, so it leads to people looking out for themselves."
no subject
"It doesn't matter how hard you work. I wish I knew what I did to get points." He pauses, so the sound of the water pouring doesn't interrupt him.
"Even the cars are useless. I'd rather we have supplies than a new spa or library." But then, his voice rises with frustration as he remembers then. "--And what was with that? An empty library? It's never left a carriage empty! What a load of bull! And it put the stupid clocks up to a vote."
Ugh! Reason 4858 why he hates this stupid train designed to stress him out!
"People say we should be nicer and understanding to the train -- I don't care. They can do that. I wanna tell it what I think."
He may just be griping at this point...
no subject
"I'm sure the spa is nice, but it's utterly useless." He agreed. "And I'm just as vexed as you are about the library, reading books is something I enjoy and there just aren't any." He grumbled a little bit.
"And I've read the non-fiction ones already." He added.
"Well, despite how we live our day to day, we're all prisoners here. We've all been kidnapped from our respective worlds. Talk nice to the train or rail at it, I don't think it gives a shit either way."
He'd never tried to contact the train. "Which is just as well because if I figure out how to break it, I'm going to do that. Partly, because I want to know how it works - okay, a lot of it is because I want to know how it works. I also want to know what happens if we do."
no subject
If they're going to bring other people into it, and comparisons. He could maybe bring up actual numbers, but he doesn't think about it right then.
But speaking of Roland. "Oh yeah, and being a good sport with the chores doesn't get you anything either. Nothing that counts. I got less points than the time I did half the chores when I did them everyday. So it doesn't care about that."
But he scoffs, walking back over to the counter to grab the thyme leaves.
"Hey, break it as you want. S'long as you don't screw the rest of us over by wrecking half the stores or whatever." Unlike some of the apparent recent attempts. "How about when we're on a planet?" But he quickly asks, the rosemary remembered on the side.
"You wanna cook the bear some first in a pan, then add it into the stew? Or just put it meat straight in?"
no subject
Now, though, Senku wasn't bored at all. He'd found a lot of things to do with his time recently. He was glad for it, boredom didn't suit him in the least.
"That would be the smart time to do it, so we have somewhere to go if we need to get off the train for something." Senku commented.
"I'm not planning on using explosives, that wouldn't be helpful and it doesn't seem to work, right?" He seemed to be thinking it over. "I don't know yet how to do it."
He shifted his mind back on task. "It'll be better if it's seared first, I'll grab a pan."

Tidus turns on the heat for the bigger saucepans, shoved at the back of the stoves. Letting the water boil for the one for broth, while for the vegetables, he adds some oil, to get them to soften.
"You know anything about computers and wiring? Even if you can't get into the engine room... there's still got to be something in these cars you can learn, right?" He waves a hand up. "Or the ICP computers. Not that I know how any of this works." He's just watched a lot of television.
"Zanarkand was more...holograms and projections. But everything here is more old-style. I think." What's a good word to describe everything...? Ah- "Clunky. But clunky means more wiring, usually."
no subject
"I know a lot about computers and wiring." Senku responded. "I haven't touched the ICP computers though. Or the SCA band because I'm not clear exactly on everything they do and I'm a bit more hesitant. Although there could be information there. I wonder if you disabled the ICP if the train would stop."
That was an interesting question.
"Everything here is somewhat modern enough, for somewhere that has no contact with the outside world, or little contact I should say." Senku mused. "Your world was probably more advanced than mine." It sounded like it, because holograms as a thing were typically rare and didn't work like in the movies.
"I should maybe poke around one of the ICPs, but it would have to be somewhere out of the way." Considering their discussion surrounding the radio, he wasn't sure people would take well to him messing with the communication system.
no subject
That was his guess. "I think they're just separate computers. But," saying that, "I dunno what you could make an ICP do."
Maybe he could make the entire train go down. But the mention of the SCAs does have him thinking further. And this time he feels more comfortable, or more determined to share info that might help.
"The SCAs-- they can keep people around. I told you, about anchors? I can't stick around without help." He raises the wrist with his SCA, situated on his left hand; standing with a spoon in his right, watching the vegetables. "If I take it off, I'll disappear - slower on the train, faster off."
no subject
"If it's just a speaker system, there's not a lot I can do with the ICP, but we got messages from the ministry, so it must have some connection to the outside world."
He huffed a light chuckle. "I'm glad you have faith in my skills, but if I'm in uncharted territory, I can't guarantee results." Senku pointed out wryly. "If any of this tech is unfamiliar to me, it will take me a lot longer to make anything happen. I'm not afraid of how long it might take, working on long-term projects is what I do, but I don't want you to think I can just make everything happen like magic."
It might seem like it sometimes, he thought, because everything he'd managed was very short time on the train compared to the year and a half they spent building a ship.
"I don't have that same restriction." He said, waving his wrists. He wasn't wearing his since he was on the train. "That's interesting. I'm guessing it has to do with what's special about you, but why wouldn't it apply to anyone else? I don't belong in this place any more than you do." Senku pointed out.
no subject
So leave room for what seems unlikely, right? But Tidus got what Senku was saying, his answer light-hearted, not serious. Not even as it turns onto himself.
"I'm not human." He looks over to Senku, smiling, as if ready to include a 'ta da'. Returns back to his cooking. "Or, to be exact- I'm a dream of one. So if I don't have someone dreaming, or some kinda power keeping me around... Poof. I'm gone. And I guess this-"
He brings up his wrist again,
"--and the train is it. My anchor."
no subject
"Then we better make sure that nothing we do affects your SCA." He pointed out.
"Since I'm not sure how we could keep you around otherwise and being rid of you would defeat the purpose." He paused. "Oh, and I mean, I don't want you to disappear or anything."
Senku probably should've led with that. As his cubes browned, he dropped them into the stew pot.
no subject
"If it comes down to it..." he slows, but- "I don't mind if it happens. Or you can disappear me for a while, I won't hold it against you. But I don't know what else these are doing for other people. It's not really something I've talked about 'til recent."
If he didn't already make that obvious.
But the vegetables and meat looked ready for its share of water, and so Tidus adds it, along with the rosemary. Giving it a stir before checking for the right lids.
no subject
He pointed the fork he was holding at Tidus. "I don't work with plans that involve sacrifices. There's nothing I would be willing to do that would sacrifice anyone for any reason."
"I'd find another way." Senku was passionate about that.
no subject
But - he gets the feeling Senku won't accept it. And maybe it's nice to hear anyway, Tidus looking aside for a quiet moment before back again.
"...Thanks. Alright." Tidus puts a fist to his own chest.
"If there's anything else I can do, you let me know. With the train or anything else. I wanna make sure everyone's as comfortable here as we can make them. Especially on missions. I want to make my time here worth it."
no subject
He wasn't going to help that along, or take time from anyone, not if it was in his power to stop it.
"I will, but really, I think I've got more than enough to keep me busy for a little bit. I'm more grateful about than then anything." Senku hummed. "Boredom is the worst. I've never been so bored before."
He gave it some thought. "Well, once we get our food sorted, apparently I should be thinking about water too, but I don't have water bottles. I'll have to do something about that." Senku might make a pot for holding water, with the arms band, he wouldn't have to physically carry it.
"We didn't take food on the last mission with us really, we just foraged but it's occurred to me that we might not be able to in some of these places. I want to set some traps this time. It'd be nice to do some hunting. It's good you're making food for people to take, really. I'm not sure how many people can get by out in the wilderness on their own."
no subject
"We try passing them out to the teams to do something with the lunchboxes and supplies, but to be honest, it's kinda a pain," Tidus admits. "One of Blue Team's leads had everything sorted far as I know, and the others... Well, Lightning looks after Red. She's part of this too. But if Orange didn't give you anything, I'll have to talk to Curufin or Eva. Like I said, we have two hundred of these things. But," he admits, "we do need bigger water containers. All we've been supplying are the sports bottles. These."
Since he is wearing his arms band, and he can show Senku, moving over to the counter, away from the chopping boards. In the glitter and gold, the sports bottle appears first, and next a purple lunchbox.
"These are my own, but they're based on these. We fit them into suitcases that we then put in the arms, so you can grab a bunch out at once."
But, with that said- "Piccolo might be able to make a water container we can use. It shouldn't be difficult for him."
no subject
"That holds what, half a litre? It's not enough if you're walking into somewhere that doesn't have a water source at all. It's enough that you might not die, but you'll be really dehydrated, and if you didn't ration it, you might die anyway." Senku shook his head.
"That's good, but I mean, it's not like we met up on the mission. The Orange team anyway, it's not like we all gathered or anything at any point. I had contact with individuals at times, but sometimes I was on my own too. No one was keeping track of who was going where, and as much as Gen and I collected things, we had to keep the scale small, to what we could handle which means we couldn't say, provide for everyone offhand." He paused. "Now we have an arms band though."
no subject
"Eva was missing last mission... to be honest, I had nothing to do with it." And now he's feeling bad, even though he's not the only one doing this.
"We can definitely supply bigger though. We got spare arms band, but... Glorfindel? I think he gave one to the other team leads for a quartermaster?" He puts up his hands. "But I really don't know what anyone's doing. Getting the team leads to talk to each other is a pain...or, it was when I tried asking about it. But everyone tells me the whole point of the team leads is to keep track of who's going where."
So much for that, in Senku's experience.
"So what are you thinking? Bigger water supplies, making sure the team leads are actually doing their jobs? Having people forage and hunt where they can?"
no subject
"Like I said, I'm not really involved in the planning stuff, but if you want a thought exercise..." Senku had no power here, that was true.
"If this was going to be my expedition?" He considered for a moment.
"Communication, is the first thing I would change. Not just between the teams, although that definitely needs work. We have comms, but we're not using them effectively. There's no checking in. No one said, make sure you check in at whatever time so we know you're not dead, or in need of help. That's the first thing. You should know where everyone in your group is and the groups should know where the other groups are." Senku thought communication was one of the most important things in any kind of operation.
"Supplies, yes, but more than that not everyone's going to have an arms band. We should be meeting periodically to get those supplies if nothing else. You don't need every person to hunt and forage, but dividing the work might help everyone feel invested in the community we have here. There's other things we need, things like information. The trade off is them maybe missing out on whatever rewards they can get, and that's where others should compensate, if we're working together, I mean..."
He tapped his finger idly. "I'd never go anywhere without ensuring every member of my group wasn't accounted for at all times. They might split off for a reason, but I still need to know what they're doing. With the unknown factor, like Eva being missing, who picks up her job when she's not there? If something happened to me, I have four generals. One of them would take charge, the others would fall in line and support them to reach the end goal."
no subject
"Well, over on Blue Team, we were always stuck together. But I think this is a good idea, why people should be sharing these ideas. Figuring what's good for the teams." For example, Tidus gesturing out a hand, palm facing upward, "Blue Team had a comms-assigned person. She was listening out on the comms and keeping track of everything, even though, we couldn't really move that far away from each other."
So at least for Blue, they had that.
"The arms and people meeting up to get the supplies was the idea of even buying them and offering them out. You know? Have someone you know who can hold onto them, do it whatever way you need to." He pauses, and then offers, "I don't think this is bad to bring up though. If everyone got left to their own devices and weren't supplied..." he frowns, mouth tight.
"We need to shove all the leads into a room and tell 'em. There's no point buying potions and that if teams aren't taking them. Or if you don't know who you can go for healing."
But that reminds him now, of a while back...
"How does Orange run things? I've never been on Orange team, 'cept for a few hours. They had a meeting, didn't they? Sometime after Purple's?"
What did Senku learn from that?
no subject
Senku shook his head. "I don't know about the Quartermaster thing either. If I needed healing or something, and pretend I wouldn't just deal with it, I would probably have to ask for help on the comms. I don't know who to contact mind you. It wouldn't occur to me personally, to ask for potions. If I hurt myself, I'll bandage it."
He considered their conversation. "You don't want to put me in a room with the team leads like that." He snorted slightly, it was more derision at himself. "I'm not delicate enough for telling those in charge they're wrong. You want Gen for that. He'd back me up, but he'd do it with honeyed words and get them to listen."
no subject
Usually, anyway. And why not just use a person better at words unless you're not looking to be formal and nice?
no subject
He hummed. "We live in a world where strength is respected, and yet the ones running things aren't the fittest. A lot of that is because we've convinced them, and our power could be tenuous if someone who was strong decided to come after us. Neither of us could do anything about that. They don't. We've shown them we have value, and things are better for them if we're in charge."
Senku stretched, and then washed his hands so he could start preparing the roast.
"Politics is a pain in the ass, and I'm not good at biting my tongue. He makes up the skills I lack."
no subject
It's the first thing he can remark on, truthfully. The first thing he thinks of, listening to Senku. A real shark eats shark kind world, or maybe Senku and Gen were more a clever pair of dolphins getting the sharks to work for them. While Senku moves to the sink, Tidus follows, just a quick splash before he figures to look for one of those cookbooks always left in the kitchen.
"I admit, I don't know anything about life like that. Spira's pretty..." He rolls a hand, trying to figure the right word. "Low on tech? Simple. It had a religion that acted as the government, but people had their own communities. I got to see the life they led, but where I grew up, it was all high tech. Completely oblivious to everything else."
--ah, here's a book. Pretty hefty too, and he closes the drawer with the back of him. Looking over at Senku with a sheepish laugh.
"I'm just a guy who played sports who wants to see the people here be taken care of. But I don't have the experience. So I'm just winging everything. Remembering what we did when I travelled Spira."
Hoping something works. And hopefully he'll be able to make the dumplings he saw in this book the other day...
no subject
"It's tough enough. Enough people have tried to kill me." He knew the day could come when it would happen again.
"The modern world was like that. I grew up studying and building rockets. I had one best friend and his girlfriend I guess, and just my dad. That's it. All of this stuff, is things I had theories about that I've put into practice. I learned to hunt, because I would've died without it. I give people things so they like me and don't kill me, because I'm very weak physically. There's probably kids that could take me out. I have to offer something else."
He had a recipe, it would work out, one way or another. The roast was easier, and he put a big chunk in a roasting pan and salted it.
