[Open] Escapades With A Mad Genius
Who: Senku Ishigami and anyone who wants to spend time with him.
Where: Various
When: Imagination 1-6
What: Senku apparently has all kinds of things to do pre-mission.
Warnings: One prompt is medical in nature, it's not really graphic.
Kitchen
In the absence of a laboratory, Senku appeared to be using cooking to cope. No, he wasn't on the purple team, meaning he wasn't officially cooking, but it was keeping him busy, and no one really wanted him to have idle hands for too long.
From the time they left the platform, until the night before the mission, he could likely be found in there at least once a day working on one project or another.
The first day, he was busy using the new ingredient of honey to make a caramel on the stove, and he had bunches of cilantro and some limes on the counter in front of him, as well as a water carbonatation machine.
After that, he could be found with a few other projects. In one instance he had lemons, honey and coconut oil in front of him. In another, he appeared to be making some kind of marinade with soy sauce and a variety of spice packets and some kind of meat. In a third, he was slicing ginger root and daikon as thinly as he could.
On Imagination day 5, he'd found his way to a few mangoes which since he didn't wear his SCA on the train very often, he didn't get the reminder that peeling mangoes was a bad idea. He'd barely started the first one when he developed a rash on his hands and at least the skin that could be seen swelled up, including his eyes and lips, thanks to urushiol being present between the peel and the fruit. One might stop at that point and deal with the allergic reaction, but Senku proceeded to continue peeling fruit as though he wasn't immensely uncomfortable.
Spa
Senku will likely check out the spa late in the evening when he couldn't sleep one night. For modesty's sake, at least other people's modesty, he will select the requisite orange swimsuit and sink into the water for a little soak. Notably, when wet, his hair collapses into some semblance of ordinary.
He wasn't interested in a massage, but a soak and a steam wouldn't be out of place.
[OOC: Also available, choose your own adventure. Senku haunts most cars, he doesn't sleep a whole lot and he doesn't usually mind company. You can just add whatever you like - don't be afraid of the pre-planned threads, or you can contact me on Discord: Ammeschan#5385 or

.. but that was just enough of a distraction that Inigo realises he completely missed Senku's instruction just now. And asking about it is sure to give him away, so his brain quickly kicks into gear, trying to think of another way out of this--
Right.
"Ah, Roland, why don't you show us how you do it first?"
GOT IT. No one will suspect a thing. Inigo can just copy what he does!
no subject
"Here we go."
Every things that's been mentioned is measured with frightening accuracy. He even holds some of the measuring cups to eye level, teaching Inigo that this would be the best way to see if your ingredients were exactly as they needed to be in quantity. Then, it's mixed dutifully, if not slowly, so Inigo can mimic him. Don't worry, dad's here!
Meanwhile -
"So, Senku. What's your favorite thing to eat? You're always around the kitchen these days. Ramen aside, I mean. Heh."
no subject
"Aside from ramen? Hm." He mused thoughtfully.
"Nothing else, I guess, I'll eat just about anything that won't kill me. If I'm going to make something I just use what's on hand. There's some good ingredients this month, lots of daikon and ginger. Also, I like spicy food." That, the train was lacking in his opinion.
no subject
Look at Roland. Isn't he the perfect dad? Going along with it so easily, not to mention that the way he does it is so thorough and clear that there's no way for Inigo to screw up as he's carefully replicating what he's seeing from Roland. He looks weirdly excited too. Not even as much about this whole baking process as much as he's just glad to have a train dad so willing to help him. Look, clearly Senku hasn't even caught on, they're that subtle!
(Just let him live in that dream, alright.)
If Inigo had a tail, it'd be wagging right about now. He does look like an excited puppy as he finishes up the last steps.
"So your favourite food would be something spicy?"
Inigo hums, thinking of what that would be.. It's not exactly like they had a lot of spicy food back in Ylisse, especially not after everything that went down there, so it's hard for him to imagine what a spicy dish may look like.
no subject
"How spicy are we talking here, Senku?" Roland throws in, while his hands busy themselves by his apron, wiping down flour and wondering if he should start the timer for half an hour for the yeast.
no subject
"The trick is to get it so you don't have big chunks of anything sticking out. To do that you have to knead it kind of quickly. Also, cut your dough in half so you get two loaves out of it."
no subject
It's probably better not to ask. It ought to be some weird otherwordly thing..
Besides, there's kneading to be done now. Quick kneading, Senku says, and so Inigo goes right at it. Kneading like a pro, max speed! (You'd think this would cause an accident eventually, considering the way Inigo just.. is.. but it's going fine so far, apparently.)
But of course Inigo can't completely keep himself from asking his dumb medieval questions.
"If there's hot sauce, does that mean there's cold sauce too?"
no subject
They're in the thick of working on the dough as he supplements the answer to Inigo's query, his hands carefully yet hastily folding back and forth like waves just as he was told. Chunky, indeed!
"Hm, not quite pup. But there are sauces that are meant to be cold, like certain dipping sauces, or those for salads." Roland explains smoothly. He enjoys it when Inigo asks questions, because it means he's interested in learning new things. Then he turns to Senku, a small smile on his face. "What's the most challenging thing you've had to make so far?"
no subject
He looked whistful for a moment. Oh. Tonkatsu. That would be so good.
"Most challenging thing...hm..." Senku had to think about that because there were so many to choose from. "Maybe it was the filaments for lightbulbs, because that was real pain in the ass." He decided after a moment.
"But we typically have trouble with a lot of projects at some point or another. We had a few problems with the ship as well that we had to overcome, the cell phone and I guess the most challenging thing that felt challenging at the time was probably the sulfanimide."
no subject
Listen, the only word Inigo know there is lightbulbs, and even that was already a struggle of a concept to get into his head. He's starting to rapidly feel out of his depth here with all of this talk - something only Senku and Roland can understand. He's not even sure what to say, because he's kind of worried all he'd do would be asking another dumb question.
So he doesn't. Inigo stays quiet, suddenly seeming even more focused on making sure to knead his own dough as well and quickly as he can. At least he can do that much.
no subject
"Wow, that's quite a portfolio you've gotten under your belt. I don't even know what sulfanimide is. Heh." But then an idea hits him, with all of Senku's expertise and talent that if he were to be honest, Inigo would be the first to know that Roland is just happy to hear Senku talk about what he loves majority of the time. It's not like Roland can keep up too, not always. He's interested more in Senku's love for his people, inventing things to make them happy.
Speaking of.
"Say, it's probably not a huge challenge to you anymore since you do it for Gen if I recall, but any chance you might be able to teach Inigo and I how to make candy? One day?"
There's a gentle nudge with his shoulder, which might have disrupted that kneading but hey. He remembers what his train son loves to eat from Halloween, and if he can get a recipe down, he'll happily provide the sugar.

He blinked at the request. "Well..." He considered that. "I typically make him cola, but I can make candy. I've made cotton candy before, which was a very vital test, and I've made fake chocolate before too." Senku mused. "I can probably make a lot of different things if I thought about it. What kind of candy are you looking for?"
no subject
It makes Inigo blush a little, feeling embarrassed at having been seen through so easily, and at needing this sort of comfort in the first place - he's old enough that he shouldn't be getting upset about not knowing certain things! ... but at the same time, it really is kind of nice.
Inigo is quiet at first, just listening to the other two talk, but then he finally glances up - first at Roland, then at Senku - as he asks: ".. What's cotton candy?" Look, he's trying to involve himself again, shyness or no shyness!
no subject
"Imagine delicious, sweet, pink candy...but it's as soft and fluffy as a cloud. It melts in your mouth the minute your tongue touches it. You'll love it." Roland explains, his hands moving about in gestures despite the small flecks of dough stuck to edge of his palms. "What did you need to make cotton candy, Senku?"
He's already allocating future points in his head for the ingredients. It'd be nice to introduce Inigo to more things, baking and bread asisde.
no subject
Senku went to grab some pans to put their bread on.
"Everyone likes cotton candy. Not me, but." He shrugged. "Then we repurposed the machine to make gold wire, and later carbon wire. We tend to recycle everything."
no subject
It's funny, the way Inigo immediately looks at Roland as he says it. Despite him not having much experience with having a father around in his life at all, it's as if the instinct is there all the same. A kid immediately turning to his father for permission.
"It sounds good." Then again, Inigo is always instantly sold with the very word 'sweet'. "Ah--!" He seems to realise something, quickly looking over to Senku, reaching out to take one of the pans when Senku holds them out. "But it's okay if you don't like it, Senku! Tastes really are different from person to person when it comes to food, huh?"
no subject
He caves quickly to the request. It's not a difficult one to fulfill, as long as Roland had the points. And despite not knowing how to actually earn them back, or what he needs to do to get the ceiling amount, he's fairly confident they'll always replenish. Somehow. What's important is it's something Inigo wants, and is actually asking for, not hiding behind his natural wall of shyness. That alone convinces him its worth the purchase.
Nevermind that he's just acquiesced to Inigo making and eating what is essentially, pure sugar in cloud form.
Roland takes his own bread pan gratefully and his lump of smoothened dough is deposited carefully inside.
"Senku's into spicy food, and Inigo likes sweets, huh?" Roland adds to the train of conversation. He remembers that they're helping each other out for a particular reason Tidus didn't quite explain, but he's glad they're getting to know each other little by little. "We really are quite different in that regard. I guess I should say I'm fond of sour things the most. I can't explain it, but it's an interesting experience when you eat something that makes your mouth crunch up from the taste. I don't mind bitter foods too."
He says just to share, not really expecting anything from that. Roland wipes his hands on his apron and keeps close to Inigo while he turns to Senku for the next step. The nuts, perhaps?
no subject
He had his loaves in the tray and did he forget the nuts?
He did. He sighed a little. "Ah, sorry, I got distracted." He held out a packet each to Inigo and Roland.
"Divide that in half and add it to your doughs, but you're going to have to take them out of the pan and knead them in." Senku said, apologetically. "And then reshape and score them again. Can't just put them on top, they'd burn."
no subject
So he doesn't complain in the slightest, instead taking the nuts and dividing them so they all have enough. Inigo does slip one of them into his mouth to chew on while he's grabbing his dough out of the pan to add the rest of the nuts to.
"We really all have different tastes.." He can't help but remark though while he's at work. Inigo thought that people liking sweets was an universal thing. Because he never had too many of them before getting here on the train, and he's pretty much been addicted since his first taste of sugary goodness.
"Don't you guys like sweets though?"
