Hey look, it's a Tony log

Who: Tony and OTA
Where: Kitchen/ Dining car
When: Bassoon 4-ish
What: Tony's cooking meals, making treats, and generally trying to keep himself busy
Warnings: Irreverence and Language? The usual.

The last team had done a respectable job in the kitchen. He'd had few complaints during the last month. However, between himself and the rest of the red team, especially Feanor, people were going to be very well fed this month.

Even though there were plenty of cooks in this kitchen for the month, this particular day Tony had taken over the kitchen. He was only sort of sticking to the recipes he'd been given, preferring to use his own or make them up as he went (shocking, I know). Currently he had three dishes he was working on at once. He had some salmon he was curing to make lox, some gummy candy he was making, and the main dish for the evening meal- whole roasted salmon with herbs and farfalle pasta with asparagus and tomatoes. Thanks to Evie and Feanor, they also had sourdough bread to go along with it and a fancy Elvish dessert.

Off to one side, he had an eggplant out, ready to fix for certain individuals who saw fish and fled in terror.

It was so mean, but Tony couldn't help himself. This was so funny. Ignis' reactions were just priceless. He could tell he was annoying the young man, but it was very hard to quit now that he saw the reaction.

Okay fine, he'll leave the poor guy alone and find a towel. "How long do you usually bake that for?" He'd been paying attention to the recipe so far, wanting to try and replicate it later if he could.

"About fifteen minutes or so." Ignis replied, checking on the asparagus. He had to give himself something else to do other than to keep wondering why Tony was behaving the way that he was. If the advisor thought he was confused before, it just got worse really.

Turning, he started to get the plates and utensils out because it gave him something else to focus on other than to be completely bewildered.

"Are you going to be happy with coffee or would you like something else? I can make us some iced tea." He was noticing the other man wasn't looking at him, which just amused him to no end. Ignis had to know what was going on here, right? They were clearly two friends who enjoyed flirting and joking with each other. Obviously. Nothing more than that. Except.. he really did enjoy this other man and found himself looking around for him wherever he went on the train.

"You know back home, it's considered a pretty intimate date to cook for another person." He was literally a terrible person.

"Iced tea will be fine." But Ignis is sticking with the coffee too. He's still making sure everything is going to come out the way it's supposed to and so adds the cheese & bacon to the asparagus. The fish is going to need another minute or two for the cheese.

He refuses to even consider anything happening here. Tony is bored and he is the intended target for the evening. So he's not going to worry about this being anything more than a getting to know each other thing. The other man is one who enjoys attention from all sorts of people and that's it, just the attention. Tomorrow someone else will be his focus.

Looking over at Tony now, the advisor put his hands on either side of the counter and locked their gazes letting out a sigh. "We are not courting."

Tony was pleased he had something he could fix to contribute to this little dinner party they were doing. As he started to fix the drink, he kept looking over at the oven when Ignis opened it. The smell was divine! If there were any of the usual trolls around, they might have some company for their second dinner or whatever this was.

The firmness in the answer took him back a bit. Ah, like he'd originally thought. If this got too far and too uncomfortable, Ignis would let him know- which is what he was doing now. Some of Tony's cheeriness did falter at that, but he shrugs. "Friend date. Whatever." His gaze goes back to what he was doing. He did wonder why Ignis was being such a stick in the mud though. "Ever been on a regular one?"

Pulling the fish out, Ignis put the cheese on and stuck it back in the oven. "Should be ready in about two minutes."

Another sigh escaped the advisor as he shook his head. "A friend date indeed." Friends could date but Tony was just being ridiculous. "I'm not cooking dinner.." and then there was that question. Several moments ticked by and green eyes stared.

"Falling into your arms will not be something that I do this evening." Having said that, Ignis turned and got the fish and asparagus out of the oven.

"Then what do you call what you're doing?" Tony asked, giving him an odd look. It looked like he was making dinner. Smelled like he was making dinner. Did Ignis think he was building a tree fort? If so, he was doing it wrong.

What was with that look? "So no. Gotcha." He chuckled at Ignis' answer. "You realize that sounded like a challenge if I ever heard one." He adds some berries to the tea and then gets out some ice. "So if you've not been on a date before, that does explain some of the weird looks you keep giving me. But I'm curious, why haven't you? You're an attractive man and a chef to boot. Surely there's someone who has appealed to you before."

Ignis turned away and rolled his eyes at the other man not answering. "It's ready, come eat." He finished getting everything else ready and just shook his head. "You have quite the imagination thinking I meant that as a challenge."

How was this turning into fifty questions? Waiting until Tony got out the berries and ice, he moved out of the other's way so the other could get his supper first. He stood with his back against the counter and had some of the iced tea as he let the older man go on.

Thinking of Noctis and how one sided it was, he shook his head and looked into his tea. "It doesn't matter."

Tony looked at the food and back at Ignis. "You can go first I.. it's the manners thing again, isn't it? Well, if you insist." He helps himself, but pretty well splitting the dish evenly. Taking his plate, his towel, and his drink, he nods for Ignis to follow him into the other room. Despite all the teasing, he still has a friendly expression- not too leering at the moment either.

Settled in the other room, he watched curiously for a moment as he considered that answer. Unrequited then. That was unfortunate. "Perhaps something more comfortable for not-dinner then? Who are you rooming with? I admit, I haven't looked too much where the newer passengers are staying."

Ignis only nodded to Tony's question about manners. He didn't care if Tony ate most of what was there, but he didn't know how to not cook a lot of food so of course there was plenty. Getting his own dinner afterwards, he quietly followed the other man into the the room.

His eyes looked at the table and didn't comment until he got asked the question about the roommates. "I've got a ninja, a spider and Maglor." Maglor was really nice if quiet. The spider still unnerved him and so Ignis tried to not spend any time in there at all. Edge he hadn't really spoken to.

Taking a bite of the fish, he discovered it turned out exactly as he'd planned.

Whether it was expected or not, given his boorish behavior, Tony turns out to have fine table manners. He was more relaxed now that they weren't cleaning and he didn't have to worry about getting the chair or table dirty.

He laughs hearing that description of the roommates. "Ah! You've got quite a good group then. Edge is amusing, though I suppose he might drive you crazy. His ability to brag puts mine to shame, if you can possibly imagine that. The kids have been calling the spider, Charlotte. She's actually very sweet. She was a human girl who somehow has been turned into this spider we see now. She's terribly obsessed with sweets, so if you ever need anything from here just bring dessert and you're golden."

He takes a bite and pauses in his description. Wow, that was.. "Okay fine you win. You're a much better chef than I am. This is fantastic. Not too many people are willing to mix cheese and fish for some reason, but this is very good." He takes another couple bites, obviously enjoying it. "I take it you used Maglor's name so you've met him at least. He's one of my favorites on board. Have you met the rest of his family on board?"

Tony got a look because Ignis couldn't imagine anyone being worse than the older man at bragging. He was surprised though to hear about this spider that the children have been calling Charlotte. Well that was a cute name, so maybe..he would try. Maybe.

And this was exactly what he was expecting, to see the other man be knowledgeable about the passengers and be able to offer insights. Yes, Tony was definitely a social butterfly for certain though it wasn't disappointing.

"Thank you." Ignis replied after hearing Tony was pleased with dinner. Nodding to the question about Maglor after finishing the bite of asparagus he had, he took a sip of the iced tea. "Yes I've met one of his kin on board."

He really wanted to ask if the older man hit on everyone, but the advisor figured he was correct in assuming so. And he didn't want to appear interested.

Tony laughs at that expression. "Right?" No shame at all! He knew he was a narcissist.

He was surprised there were no questions from the other man when he displayed he knew the other people in his room so well. It made him a bit self-conscious wondering if Ignis was truly just putting up with him out of politeness and wanted to leave this dinner as soon as he possibly could. There was a little sign of hope though when he at least was willing to acknowledge Maglor.

"He has three of them. Feanor, Maedhros, and Curufin. Which have you met? They're all quite different. You should get to know Feanor if you haven't. He's one of the front runners for the council."

He was just trying to enjoy dinner and was still wondering why those questions had been asked. But he could do polite conversation and paused a moment after taking a bite of fish. Who was it that he had met? Swallowing the bite, he nodded. "It was Curufin I believe, nice enough fellow."

He couldn't help but raise his eyes to Tony when he heard the part about Feanor. Well he'd have to keep the elf mind, especially if this was something that would help. "I will most certainly keep that in mind."

Setting his fork down, Ignis fixed his green eyes on Tony. "When you make friends with someone, is it your customary habit to always ask personal questions? Or even to suggest that something is a date?"

They had very different ideas of what was seen as polite and what wasn't. He nods with a bit of the smile he had before at that. "Ah, yes. That one farts moonbeams and rainbows. He's very friendly. It's interesting that he's the only one of the elves who is on a team other than red, don't you think? Have you established any theories on that?"

Tony noticed the shift in Ignis' demeanor and looks at him curiously. "First question yes, sort of, and second question no. Well, depends. Would you believe it if I said until this train I didn't really go around attempting to make friends? Back home, I preferred people to leave me the hell alone." He frowns a bit, interpreting the point of this question to mean he wasn't doing a very good job of it. "I ask questions to learn about people and from what I understand it, that's how you find things in common to become friends." He'd read the Win Friends and Influence People by Carnegie, after all. What businessman hasn't? "And the second part, it more depends what I'm after. If I was just trying to hook up with someone I used to put next to no effort in that. You'd be astounded at how many women will sleep with you by being flat out rude to them. Interesting phenomenon. But I haven't had the desire to do that in.." He pauses to think. How long had it been since he and Pepper got serious? "Ten years maybe? Now.. now, I'm not sure what I'm doing as far as that's concerned. I won't ever see my wife again so, does it mean I'm single? I honestly have no idea." It still felt wrong what he'd done with Albany even if they'd both been unattached, so to speak. He just couldn't decide what the rules were when you've made a vow till death do us part and you're basically a dead man still living.

He's just going to turn his head in disgust because that kind of conversation doesn't belong at the dinner table. So Ignis just sighs and shakes his head at the question. "I can't say that I know many people here to be able to have formulated a conclusive theory as to why we're on the teams that we are. I had rather thought about it for a time."

While working on finishing his dinner, he was pretty damn sure he didn't quite believe Tony about wanting people to leave him alone. So after listening a bit he shook his head at the being rude to women succeeded comment because how in the name of the Six did that even work? It was preposterous.

"She could show up here still and you haven't yet passed in your world. So you may get your chance to see her again." He sighed, not knowing if he was being helpful or not at this point. It seemed as if this train would kidnap anyone, especially if was a spider or children. There didn't seem to have a pattern of discrimination at all. "And besides, if you took up with someone here and she showed, you would need to figure out how to explain things to both parties."

Tony's commentary further solidified that this banter was nothing but sort of game to be played which went against how Ignis worked. So he worked on finishing dinner, thinking of Noct.

Tony will just pretend he didn't see that. The younger man was so proper and sensitive. "You might try actually meeting people, Ignis. There's no telling just when we'll be able to get people back to their worlds. There are a lot of good people on this train."

It was sadly true about how women would allow themselves be treated. Once upon a time, he'd experimented with that just to see if it worked. When it did, he'd found it funny. That's who he'd been back then. It.. wasn't something he was proud of now. He wasn't all that sure why he'd even brought that up. Perhaps to show Ignis just a little of the bad he'd done in his life? He could see how repulsed the other man was. How would he react to the rest? It got so much worse than that.

"Maybe." He was losing his appetite now. What would she think if she showed up? He hadn't lasted even a month. So what, did he just keep waiting to see if she did appear? Honestly, that wasn't such a bad idea, at least for a while. And he could continue to argue with Ignis about how imminent his death was, but what was the point of that? The young man either believed him or not. What difference did it make?

And the honest truth was part of it was a game but part of it was he was making an effort to befriend people. He was just a flirt and that tended to be how he interacted with people he found attractive. He did find Ignis attractive, but he also loved a good mystery. Figuring out the other man had pushed him to perhaps be a little more aggressive than he might have otherwise. Besides, he'd just told Ignis that if he was just hooking up with someone, he didn't put any effort into it. So how did the young man explain the effort he'd put into this?

"I've no doubt you're right." Ignis replied in what he hoped was a soothing tone. It was just hard to know who to trust. People he could talk to, that he was used to. Having been in King Regis' court, taking notes, being given orders to take care of Noct, all of those things he could handle. He'd been on the road and on the run for awhile so it was a little tougher to break that reclusive habit.

Hearing the way the 'maybe' was said sounded off. Ignis sighed at himself, so much for best intentions. Hesitantly he had patted Tony on the shoulder which was supposed to be a reassuring gesture. "I know you'll find your answers given time." This was said as he got up to go back to the kitchen.

None of this would be held against the older man. Sure he was aggressive, but Ignis could handle it. "For the record, had you been rude to me I personally wouldn't have given you another thought." There was something of a smile there but there was also a hint of steel because the advisor meant his words.

Wordlessly he took Tony's iced tea glass and coffee cup with him to prepare refills because Ignis believed in spoiling people at times, and being able to have dinner with someone else, even if it was someone as lost and misdirected as the older man was.

He couldn't tell if he was being humored the same way he had just humored Ignis, but it didn't really matter. The young man would either follow his advice or not, it wasn't like it cost him anything to give it. "I could introduce you to some people I think you might get along well with." If Ignis hadn't met him yet, Manabu would be a good ally and Ash. The elves, certainly. He wouldn't push it too far if given the chance since he could tell Ignis wasn't the type to have loads of friends ready to go party with him.

And apparently that was the end of their dinner, Tony thought with a sigh. The young man was getting up and picking up dishes. However, the adviser surprised him with that remark. "As you shouldn't have," Tony agreed with a tired smile. "I wasn't a very good man back then." He had doubts about if he even was now.

When the younger man left the room, he stayed behind. Even if he'd had a really wonderful release of endorphins earlier laughing with Peter, this conversation and what other memories that had been brought up had left him in a downward spiral of thought. He should really leave the young man alone. It wasn't fair to him to be flirted with, especially when Tony wasn't sure they were on the same page with that. To Tony it was a harmless joke between friends, but to Ignis it seemed an insult. That hadn't been his intention, but did that matter? It was the result. Did any of his intentions matter if the result was harmful? He really didn't know.

"If you think that's best, we can do that." It'd be easier for him to have Tony there to do the socialization if it was needed. The older man was a social butterfly, able to make friends easily and generally get along with everyone. And while Ignis admired that ability, it wasn't his. He was more comfortable one on one or small gatherings, like four men travelling together.

Ignis didn't know what to make of the comment about being a good man. Surely Tony had to have changed to have such a woman marry and have a daughter with him. He pondered along those lines as the cups were refilled and he came back, setting both down in front of the older man.

The expression was different than the smiles and the laughter he'd been on the receiving end of before. What had changed in the few moments that had passed? Ignis wasn't going to pry but he was concerned. Had he said the wrong thing? No, Tony had laughed, but then again maybe he would laugh to cover his pride. Had it been wounded?

Finally settling in at his chair, green eyes looked over at the older man. "You seem rather thoughtful." That would either open the conversation or it would be shut down. But at least it gave Tony the option.

Tony looked at Ignis funny, but nods anyway since it was what he thought was best. Why would it be what he thought best when this was a suggestion to assist Ignis? The young man sure was a curiosity. He wondered what it might have been like to be a king's servant or whatever he was. It was possible the man's whole life has been spent like the Genie from Disney's Aladdin. 'Poof, what do you need? Poof, what do you need?'. What would it be like to be suddenly freed of that and actually have to ask himself, what did Ignis want? What could be done to help?

Startled out of his thoughts, he looks up at Ignis in surprise. "You came back?" It takes him a moment to notice the cups had been refilled. "Oh.. I thought you were done."

The advisor's life was always answering to someone else, even if that someone else was two years younger than him. There was never much thought given as to what he personally wanted for himself, that kind of freedom he wouldn't know quite what to do with. He'd gotten a bit of that and didn't know what to do so he'd felt lost.

Somehow though he was surprised that Tony was surprised he was there. So Ignis was a bit confused in his reply. "I..where else would I be?" A moment later he got the reply. "N..no, unless you have somewhere else to be."

In his own mind after dinner he was getting back to the kitchen, but if Tony wanted to go wander off, the cleaning would still get done regardless.

"I'm not implying anything, just.. it's fine. Don't worry about it." It took effort to push the thoughts he had been spiraling into aside along with any self-consciousness of what Ignis saw. He was tired. He wanted to know what the right course of action was instead of always having to second guess himself. What was he doing with Ignis? What if Pepper shows up? What if she never showed up? What if..

"Thank you," he finally said, picking up his fresh coffee mug. "That's all I meant by that."

'Don't worry about it.' That was something Ignis said all the time and most of the time he got left alone for saying it. Then there were other times that he didn't get left alone for saying it so he had to let that go for now.

However, for Tony's sake, Ignis wouldn't pry. It wasn't in his nature though it seemed as if something was wrong. Taking a sip of his own coffee, Ignis sighed. "I'm going to finish this and I'll clean up dinner. Afterwards I'll get started on the rest of that clean up."

"No, you've done plenty." Tony looked up thoughtfully at Ignis. "What would you like to do? No duty, no rules, no master.. what would Ignis Scientia enjoy doing?"

He didn't like that Ignis felt so obligated to clean up his mess. It had been sweet when it felt like he was just helping a friend, but now it sounded more like a servant cleaning up after his careless master and that didn't sit well with him.
