oh captain my captain
Who: Enna and you!
Where: Network, and then the kitchen car!
When: Imagination 15, morning
What: Enna claims the captaincy.
Warnings: Summaries of the mission, including death and injury!
[The ICPs on the train will all start up, showing Enna's face, looking uncharacteristically serious. And she seems to have figured out the ICPs much better since her last time.]
Cawww... That mission was a mess. It sucked. For a lot of reasons.
[She sighs, folding her arms, her cloak wrapped around her.]
Hi. If I haven't met you yet, I'm Enna. Gienah Alchiba, captain of the Argo Minor. But call me Enna. Or Captain, 'cause that's what this is about.
When we were fighting the bad guys, I called myself the captain of the Voidtrecker Express. That was mostly to make myself a priority target, 'cause I'm the one who had the unbreakable shield. But I meant it, too. A crew this size needs a captain, so I'll do it. 'Cause, that was awful.
We need to make sure this won't happen again. Not just so that we're more prepared, so we can fight through anything, but we need to be careful about who does what. Someone in the group I was in killed one of the bad guys after they were already pinned down. I dunno who that guy is, but that's not something I will allow to happen again.
[She takes a minute to gather herself again, figure her thoughts out as she rustles her cloak.]
I need to know what all happened on this mission. What groups were where. Please report in with what you know of what happened on this mission, what you did. If you know anything about who those enemies were, that's important, too. We can't keep sailing blind. If we get another mission like this and we're any less organized, we might not have anyone survive.
I'll be at the.... There's no helm. Caw. Okay. I'll be in the kitchen car. Come report to me there. I'm going to start making plans for what to do next time.
[The video ends. She didn't even punch the ICP this time.]
(OOC note: This is not an OOCly enforced thing, this is just Enna's own actions. You don't have to acknowledge or obey, the train sure won't. Replies are gonna be assumed to be in-person unless specified otherwise!)

[Or would that be an uprising?]

[This got complicated. She's thinking, though it looks like her head might be overheating.]
I don't think there is a captain, though. I dunno what leaders we have. But they need a leader, too, 'cause the mission proved whatever they're doing isn't working.
no subject
What would you have done differently?
no subject
Every group should have had a leader, and groups should have been assigned based on ability, 'cause someone like me going on the mission to the zappy place was useless. When the fighting started, we needed the medics to pull back and the heavy hitters forward. The guy who killed a downed enemy shouldn't have been on the battlefield at all.

However that can all be managed more effectively through better communication.
The planning is a little more difficult as so much of the terrain was in uncharted territory. No one could know the status of each of the various locations without reconnaissance. And the time frame that we were given required that we enter into situations blind. Inevitably, there will be situations where units will be placed in disadvantageous positions or be placed in duties that would make them less effective. All things considered, the teams were successful despite the difficulties, which shows that the mission was not unsuccessful.
As for the fatality...
...just as many of us our blind to the territory we are entering, many of us are also unaware of each other's skills, proficiencies, and mentalities. War is also chaotic and prone to rash decision making. A leader may coordinate a majority of the groups, but ultimately there may still elements inside our units that may act in ways that no one could have foreseen.

And only after offering the person a chance to explain. And, possibly, atone.

[... It's said in the tone of 'duh, obviously'.]

Thank you, Senku.]You sound more angry than just right now.
And more likely to let your emotions and opinions lead your decisions rather than what would best serve everyone.

I just don't think that guy should be going on combat missions anymore.

[Only their numbers aren't especially great...}

[That's not a very confident 'right' though. That's more of a "Yes, but maybe sometimes..."]
no subject
But I can't get anyone to listen to me unless I'm the captain.
no subject
[But that may be a little too literal-minded...]
May I ask what you saw? Where were you when the assault happened?

[She folds her arms.]
I had my shield to his neck. He wouldn't have been able to move without crushing his own throat. Moving at all would've been hard. So he wasn't able to fight.
And then that guy killed him.
no subject
[That explains a lot. There were two different intentions. She wanted to restrain and control; and he wanted to eliminate. But more to the point Enna must be feeling responsibility that her actions directly lead to the unnecessary death of an opponent.]
[Still, that just painted the scene of those three...]
What were the other enemies doing at the time?
[Restraining is dangerous work, and if the enemy did not value their ally...]
no subject
[That's exactly it. Executing an unarmed, restrained man is not something she'd allow, and since she had just declared herself captain... That means that death is on her shoulders.]
no subject
[Still, there was one thing that seemed like it needed to be said:]
It wasn't your fault.
no subject
It's not my fault.
[That wasn't it. Not exactly.]
But I called myself captain. So it is my responsibility.
no subject
[She understands that, and surely in her mind at the moment she was. The question weighing on Eight's mind right now is whether this responsibility was taken on too soon... as well as the disastrous consequences that followed.]
We'll look into it. I... will tell Roland and Glorfindel.
no subject
Who're they?
no subject
But more than that, they are worthy of trust.
They will listen.
