We're all in this train-gether 🚂

Who: OTA. If you’re a passenger with a ticket on this train, then you are most welcome here!
Where: Upper Music Car
When: Imagination 18, at around brunch.
What: Welcome to the train’s first ever community open forum. Come for the food, stay for the best discussions ever.
Warnings: Lots of top-levels for easy access to relevant topics to your characters, but apart from that, nothing right now! (Not a warning but a heads-up that one TL will be dedicated to the dissemination and discussion of the bonus trek during the last mission. For your OOC reference, please see here.)

Someway through the 18th of Imagination, an announcement for the already spoken for meeting is shared by the ICPs, giving people twenty minutes to come to the upper Music Carriage for the gathering. While the chairs mostly face the stage, they’ve been curved to allow people to face their fellow passengers too, so not to put the sole focus in one place.

This is a meeting for all, and everyone will have their chance to speak and be heard.

The promised snack table sits to one side of the room, and on the stage, the white board from the standard coach has been brought in, written on it bullet points for the planned topics. To assist in the flow of discussion, familiar moderators stand in place to help jot things down, carry conversation further should one idea end while another is ready to begin, among other such administrative tasks to organize the forum. Plus, the ICP’s are in constant use all throughout the meeting, with basic announcements about what’s being discussed now, and how more people are still welcome to catch up to the Music Car if they hear something that interests them.

Grab a plate, settle down, and let’s get to work.

(OOC: Specific top-levels will be set-up for ease of tagging. Select ‘Show Top-Level Comments Only’ if you would like to skip ahead! And as much as possible kindly keep to a single thread in that TL, unless a very special or private point has to be made with regards to the subject! :) Of course if you will be tagging the snacks table, the extra suggestions, or the meta-thread, this does not apply any longer.

Also, very important: Please see here for an example format of how documentation of missions can go! It is most relevant during the discussion on information gathering.)

It sounds good to me. Anybody with an arms band and some kind of mobility should be good to at least distribute them. I can also do basic field dressing of battlefield wounds.

Is there an option to be on both teams? I like to think I'm a qualified medic, even if back home I'm still a student. But I'm also a capable fighter, and can throw some serious power around if needed.

I know Webs won't say no! I'll be on backup for moving around for fighting or healing too.

May I recommend that the White Bands all receive some sort of basic defensive training and be our first priority for armor, so that they feel more comfortable in whatever level of action they end up in? Ideally we would have Medics in field, a triage unit to handle the worst cases that cannot wait, that would flex between field and backend support.

I also suggest we make sure that those who stay on the Train during missions, especially if the Train leaves, are prepared to deal with the emergency evacs. This will be easier with the new Trauma Car, but having them prepared, just in case...

[Glorfindel shrugs a little as he tails off. Among Elves, the healers are also fighters, though unlike Lord Elrond, they usually aren't on the front lines. But he has been protecting what is basically a Hospital for 3000 years, so he has opinions.]

I think you might see more benefit to letting the medics off the train and then a pre-determined selection can evac, especially if the train leaves, during an emergency. It's better for their mental health to get out of the living space.

[ That aside, he offers a wary look. ]

What kind of defensive training are you talking about?

[Glorfindel shook his head.] I didn't mean assigning people to stay on the Train. Every mission, not everyone leaves the Train, for their own reasons.

Defensive. How to duck, how to dodge, knowing when to run, and who to call for help, how to use the tools you have, or armor to make sure you survive a fight you didn't intend to get into, basically. Not everyone has the temperament to be a fighter, and that is okay. But if you find yourself in trouble, we want you to be okay.

Might be worth designating a unit specifically for field triage? Smaller group of people to train and equip.

I don't have healing skills such as many people here do, but I do carry a first aid kit with me on every single mission. I also have some basic skills: I know how to stop bleeding if it can be stopped, I can bandage wounds, and I can carry an injured person off the field, as well as knock together a makeshift stretcher from whatever timber is around. My main functions are fighting and tech skills, but it's good to have secondary skills.

But I was thinking we ought to have a field hospital set up off the train, on every mission. It should have medicines and equipment, including those stretchers I bought a couple of months ago. And I agree with Glorfindel, that whoever stays on the train should, if possible, learn the skills that might save the lives of those who are evacuated. And that we should have medics who can evac with the patients if need be.

A first aid stopgap is important when it comes to medicine anyway, the sooner that there's intervention, the better the outcome. If there was a way I could become a magical healer, I would, as it is I'm stuck with what I know which is just regular medicine.

[ He sighs a little. ]

That said though. [ He looks at Glorfindel. ] If you require me to have skills like that, I won't qualify for the white team. I can't physically do any of that, realistically speaking.

Clef... might have kind of... um...missed the mission. He had been so deep in his studies - and his work on a surprise gift for Zelda and Nita that he might have missed the stop, and the announcement. So he had thought the announcement for this meeting was the mission. He remained, and listened.

When there was a break, he spoke. "I am not specifically a healer, per se, but I can learn, and will take what lessons are offered. What I can contribute, as things currently stand," said the mage who looked like a ten year old who dressed himself in his parents cosplay closet, "is that I can make armor and weapons in the ways of the Pharles of Ceiphro. I can also use Bending to create other supplies in advance."
