We're all in this train-gether 🚂

Who: OTA. If you’re a passenger with a ticket on this train, then you are most welcome here!
Where: Upper Music Car
When: Imagination 18, at around brunch.
What: Welcome to the train’s first ever community open forum. Come for the food, stay for the best discussions ever.
Warnings: Lots of top-levels for easy access to relevant topics to your characters, but apart from that, nothing right now! (Not a warning but a heads-up that one TL will be dedicated to the dissemination and discussion of the bonus trek during the last mission. For your OOC reference, please see here.)

Someway through the 18th of Imagination, an announcement for the already spoken for meeting is shared by the ICPs, giving people twenty minutes to come to the upper Music Carriage for the gathering. While the chairs mostly face the stage, they’ve been curved to allow people to face their fellow passengers too, so not to put the sole focus in one place.

This is a meeting for all, and everyone will have their chance to speak and be heard.

The promised snack table sits to one side of the room, and on the stage, the white board from the standard coach has been brought in, written on it bullet points for the planned topics. To assist in the flow of discussion, familiar moderators stand in place to help jot things down, carry conversation further should one idea end while another is ready to begin, among other such administrative tasks to organize the forum. Plus, the ICP’s are in constant use all throughout the meeting, with basic announcements about what’s being discussed now, and how more people are still welcome to catch up to the Music Car if they hear something that interests them.

Grab a plate, settle down, and let’s get to work.

(OOC: Specific top-levels will be set-up for ease of tagging. Select ‘Show Top-Level Comments Only’ if you would like to skip ahead! And as much as possible kindly keep to a single thread in that TL, unless a very special or private point has to be made with regards to the subject! :) Of course if you will be tagging the snacks table, the extra suggestions, or the meta-thread, this does not apply any longer.

Also, very important: Please see here for an example format of how documentation of missions can go! It is most relevant during the discussion on information gathering.)

[At sometime after all the talk's done and said, a tired Eva'll seek the elf out.]

What do you make of everything so far? I know I've got my thoughts, That's for sure.

I...think the ghost of Tony is haunting us and we may need to find a way to exorcise it in order to be able to move forward.

He hurt a lot of people, not just directly, but by hamstringing us as he did, I believe this last mission was a result of that.

It is. It really is. It's why I think we should give the Council a chance to show what it can do when it's not basically hamstrung or a rubber stamp.

[A sigh as she runs her free hand through hair.] People are already pointing fingers at us because 'we do nothing', which is fair, but we need that chance to prove what we can do.

And what is it that we want to do?

I understand the original purpose of the Council, but, how are we to meet the needs of the current passengers?

Before we can prove anything, having a clarity of purpose would help, I think. We need to purge Tony's ghost and be more open about our intentions and the Council's mission.

[He has some thoughts on the subject, but is very interested in her opinion.]

I don't know. We've been so hamstring that it's no wonder people took things into their own hands.

Back home, the Masara Council was responsible for basically coordinating all the various groups in the town, along with making sure things ran smoothly, and with listening to everyone. I once said to Stark-san that a leader doesn't have to like what they hear but they do need to consider every opinion. You can think it as dumb as rocks but it still has weight and needs all the due consideration that everyone else would get.

[She exhales.] A Council also has responsibilities that mean they need to be willing or even able to take the blame when things go wrong, especially if it's their fault.

That said, all the remaining Council need to sit down have an open talk about what's been said here and figure our vision out and then present that to the train as a whole. One where people can listen and perhaps chime in at the end if they want. I don't doubt we'll lose members and I don't doubt we'll gain them, just as I don't doubt things will change and people will beable to get more involved in matters.

Will we get it right the first time? Probably not, but we need to try and we willing to adapt with what the future brings.

The Imladris Council was set up that way as well. The leaders of all the various groups, the Healers, the Kitchen, the Stables, the Artisans, the Bards, et cetera, each had a voice, and Lord Elrond, Erestor, myself and a couple of others would help facilitate making decisions and mediate between the groups.

Kaiba and Senku's thoughts on the subject seem quite in keeping with this, as well, which I find quite heartening.

Let us talk to the other current members, set up a meeting time, and determine how we want to proceed? No matter what the decision is: Stay, Go, Reorganize, we do owe it to ourselves and the other passengers to make it a formal decision, and to invite comment, in my opinion.

[He smiled at her, a bit rueful.] I very much disagreed with Tony's insistence on closed door meetings, so I would vote against such a thing, especially in this situation. [He does not actually expect Eva to disagree, he's just being open.]

Same; and I hope it goes forward in some fashion. It's what we need, honestly as we're basically a small village now and everyone should, at the very least have a role or feel like they do.

[She exhales with a nod.] I'll touch base with those I can, but the sooner we get something decided, the better for everyone. I personally will stay, even if we need to reorganise the Council.

[Her own smile's just as wry.]

Oh same. I just... Gods. This is a mess and we should have stepped up sooner... [She shrugs at the end, as if to say it is what it is.] But it's hard to know where to start once you're no longer hamstrung.

It didn't seem to be an issue. Nothing came up to show us we were wrong until the Mission brought it to a head.

Though apparently there was some discussion amongst various passengers. It would have been nice if they had brought those concerns to the Council, but considering their faith had been shaken, it is understandable that they did not.

But the Train is constantly changing, the Passenger Roster is constantly changing, so leadership needs to change with it. And considering how few Council members are left, this is an excellent time.

Exactly, and yeah. Can't say I blame them if they thought no-one would have listened.

[Eva nods in agreement] It does and it should change. I've heard good talk today and I think we should have a council meeting... probably after the Team Leads one? At least a day after, give us time to process everything a bit before...
