Warnings: Sugary?

"So this says," Dread said, looking up from the ICP at the absurdly large board that, apparently, was not a ridiculous riddle-challenge to get into an ancient tomb or the like, "that landing on the head of a snake sends you to the end of the snake, but landing on the bottom of a ladder sends you to the top of the ladder.

He shrugged. Make any sense to you, Sarai?

Not a bit! The Au Ra stared up at the board, a perplexed expression on her face.

"Are you sure this is a game? It sounds like a puzzle to get into a lost temple or some such." She still remembered Qarn, thank you very much. She was glad that he'd remembered the puzzles the last time they'd run through there--the younglings they'd been helping certainly hadn't known, and hadn't paid attention to the reliefs that gave them instructions, either. She had, but considering she'd been healing, at that point, there were more important things on her mind!

"They don't have mahjong tiles?"

It wasn't their fault that the games seemed more angled for...someone else. "Hey, can you lift this up? I think I see it!" At least...Sarai thought it was a box of mahjongg tiles; it was hard to tell, but it was easier for Dread to lift, and then she could scoot in there and tug the box out.

"Nope, dominoes, but it looks like it has instructions, do you want to try that?" Worse came to worse, they could always make a domino rally, knock it down, and put them back up again. The thought just came naturally. Maybe it was the sound the pieces made as they fell. There was just something tantalizing about it...

And she made quite sure she was out of the way when Dread did so, scuttling back out of the way with one arm clutching her prize to her chest. Or their prize, anyway. At least until she could plop on her bottom and pry the cover of the game off, and hand him the instructions. Meanwhile, she was going to paw through the dominoes and make sure they were all there!

"Here you go, then!" said Sarai, handing the paper up to her husband.

"That does seem...rather odd. But we can try anyway, right?" Because why not. Sarai didn't even bother to move to a chair or table--even with her husband's considerable bulk, they weren't blocking any pathways, and if they kept the dominoes between them, it should be fine.

"So I just put them face down in a pile, and we pick seven each and then count up how many points we have? That seems easy enough."

And Sarai set to putting her words into action!

"Oh. That's strange. Why do I think games from home were less confusing?" Despite the fact that Sarai was half tempted to just go get a book, she knew Dread was less enthused by reading. He preferred to do things. So playing this game was better.

"I suppose that means you're going first?" she asked him, bemused. Hovering her hand over the pile, she selected one and turned it over.

Four dots on each side, to make eight. "Oh," Sarai said.

"I don't! It's confusing! But this isn't as bad as that!" Not that Dread had tried explaining it to her, but. She'd figure it out someday. Maybe.

"Seven, correct?" she asked, before she began to select her dominoes.

As if they did not have a great deal of time! Sarai selected her seven dominoes carefully, turning them over in a hollow she made in her lap.

She wasn't terribly sure what the point was still, but she set out a domino with a 2 dot and a 5 dot sequence.
