(open) my heart is about to jump out of my chest
Who: Inigo and you!
Where: The upper level of the music carriage
When: Imagination 19/20
What: Inigo thinks he's having a private dance practice moment. Thinks.
Warnings: Probably nothing, will edit if necessary.

(open to all)
If you happen to pass through the music carriage today - as people usually do when moving through the train - you may notice something. Either you can hear music coming from the upper floor, drawing your attention, or if you have a good heart, you may instead see an odd little creature sitting on the stairs, swaying from side to side along with the music.
If you decide to go upstairs, the creature certainly won't do anything to stop you, if you can see it. In fact, it seems to happily bounce right after you, following you up.
And upstairs the carriage is mostly empty - except for Inigo standing on the stage, dancing. The music is even more audible now. Inigo is dancing along to the beat, eyes closed, yet he doesn't seem to even come close to falling off the stage, as if he knows exactly where to place his feet. Which he probably does, considering his movements seem to be very fluid, practiced. It's a pretty captivating dance, honestly, and it's easy to just keep watching it without realising the time is passing until the song stops.
It's then that Inigo stops moving too, finally opening his eyes..
.. and therefore finally noticing that he's not alone. He lets out an absolute shriek, staring you straight in the eyes, before his foot slips and he finally ends up falling on the stage.
Temporary elegance gone. There is only a miserable little pile of Inigo on the stage now.
(closed to taiki)
Okay, okay. Maybe he just needs to get used to dancing in front of people. He danced in front of Tidus before, and that was only.. only mildly mortifying, so maybe that's what he should do. Make sure to dance in front of people he feels a bit more comfortable with.
Hence why Inigo gently dragged (read: made puppy eyes at until he gave in) Taiki along here. He said it was fine if Taiki would just sit there and paint or something, do whatever he feels like doing! It's just that Inigo has to get used to having an audience, okay! And Taiki is just about the most gentle person Inigo can think of for this sort of thing.
But thinking of that is one thing. The actual execution of this plan is another thing.
Which is why they're both here now, but rather than dancing, Inigo just sitting there on the stage, slumped over, groaning. His face is buried in his hands.
"Why is it so hard to get started when someone else is looking.." Is he whining to Taiki? To himself? Who knows.

And stare for a moment.
"What do you mean..?"
He sounds genuinely surprised. Like he really has no idea why Sizhui would say something like that.
"Of course you could dance like that." Inigo's tone sounds a bit more steady again - maybe he just really is that much better at reassuring others than reassuring himself. "You have a certain grace about you, after all-- and anyone can dance if they try! That's what my mother always said.."
no subject
Maybe he's being rude? Seems more understandable then, but as Inigo's question comes, his absolute sincerity is startling. He truly believes in Sizhui's abilities (despite the lack thereof) and though he doesn't give himself much credit, hearing the other speak so assuredly at least makes him feel like he could try if anything. “You... do you think so?” The Lan's have always had a particular poise to them, there's no doubting this, he simply hadn't considered how sword-fighting might be compared to dancing; one must be graceful when wielding a weapon, just as it is with dance, so why couldn't he learn?
(Sizhui would need a teacher, that's why, and he doesn't want to intrude... but.)
“I'm not too sure.” A beat of silence then he segues into, “But I'm more than willing to try if you'll give me a hand.” Another pause, followed shortly thereafter by an inquisitive head-tilt. “Is your mother the one who taught you?”
no subject
And Inigo kind of feels like he's leading himself into a trap here. Because Sizhui did say he's willing to try as long as Inigo is giving him a hand, and that involves.. Inigo doing more dancing in front of him.. and teaching Sizhui.. Which is an incredibly daunting thought for someone as shy about dancing as Inigo.
But on the other hand, it's for a friend. If there's any reason to try and get over himself for once, it's for that sake, right? He can't deny Sizhui the opportunity to dance just because Inigo happens to be a big baby!
But rather than having to address the teaching issue right away, the other is generously giving Inigo something to focus on instead, if not momentarily - the question he's asking, which makes Inigo nod.
"She's a dancer. By trade, I mean." He's not sure if that sort of thing would still be common in more modern worlds, but thankfully it sounded before like Sizhui is from a world that sounds like it's a little closer to his own in societal terms.. "She is by far the best dancer I have ever seen. And she always danced with me back when I was younger."
no subject
Sizhui's eyes widen marginally, his owlish gaze locked on Inigo for a long moment, two, three— then he finally becomes downcast, staring anywhere that isn't at his friend; at Jumblie, the bit of stage floor that is between them, his own lap. He never would've meant for it to seem like Inigo's trapping himself in something unnecessary because there are surely other people aboard the train that could dance. Someone less shy about teaching him?
Although, here's an idea: what if teaching helps him become less shy? Having someone so willing and ready to learn, it's like he can't be worried anymore! Or what if, on the other hand, it has the direct opposite effect?
Better not think too much or else it might jinx something, which he certainly doesn't need more of. He regards Inigo with an eyebrow raised, head tilting in the opposite direction while receiving information.
“She must do well,” he remarks. Dancing is a trade back where he's from, possibly different in just a few ways, though quite similar in ones that matter most. Fan dancers are not lacking at most higher-ups' fancy parties, after all. “Aw.” Sorta comes out before he can stop it, but Sizhui immediately covers himself with, “I— I mean, it's sweet, how happily she taught you and you so willingly learned.”
no subject
Don't think he missed that aw!
What was it supposed to mean? Pity? An aw of cuteness?! Inigo isn't sure which of the two would be more embarrassing, and it easily pricks at his already flustered mood, sending him further down the spiral of blushes and red cheeks.
"W-Well, I mean.."
You can't just disobey your mother, he almost says, but then remembers that Sizhui has two dads. It's a sentiment that may not come as naturally to him as it does to Inigo.
"I just.. wanted to make her happy. I still do. That's why I still want to practice my dancing.." No matter how shy he is about it, and no matter how terrible that goes together with the complete lack of privacy on the train.
no subject
Pity is definitely not what he wanted to convey, either. So, yes, it's cute he was going for and here's hoping that's expressed properly. On the other hand, Inigo already seems so ruffled, would it be fair to make it worse? Then, if he does make things more terrible, which one is most awful? At least he isn't blushing alone, Sizhui's ears have effectively pinkened with embarrassment too after considering exacerbating his friend's flustered state.
But he gathers himself, somewhat regains his poise and regards Inigo, patiently waiting for him to finish whatever it is he was going to say. Perhaps he wouldn't understand, ‘Don't disobey your mother,’ it's safe to assume he'd treat it the same as ‘Don't disobey your father.’
“I think that's amazing, Inigo.” Even though his mother isn't here, he still wants to please her. It's sweet, okay? He pinches his lips, moves until he's sitting with his legs tucked just right so he can sit on them, left hand reaching to rub the apples of his cheeks. Are they red? He hopes they're not too bad if they are, though it doesn't hinder his smile or have him hesitating when he adds, “I'm sure she's absolutely delighted.”

A moment passes, perhaps a touch awkwardly, considering both his and Sizhui's own state.
But Inigo is the one to break it, awkwardly clearing his throat as he speaks up.
"T-Thank you.. for being so kind about all of this."
For not making fun of me, he means, but it sounds better to put it this way.
no subject
Awkward though it may be, he doesn't waver, isn't too worried about Inigo possibly seeing his flushed face anymore and whenever his friend does manage speaking, his expression brightens further. “You're quite welcome, but it really is only the truth.”
Since, given what Sizhui's seen, Inigo's dancing is rather impressive. Still definitely better than any dancing he could ever do. “And thank you for not being upset with me just barging in.”
no subject
"How could I ever be upset with you?"
Sizhui is just such a sweet guy, it feels impossible to be mad at him. He could stab Inigo in the chest and Inigo would probably thank him for it. That level of impossible.
"I.. I mean, I guess that's why Jumblie let you in.." Even though she is still a dirty traitor.. "Because she knew I wouldn't mind you being here."
There's a pause where Inigo seems to realise he might have to elaborate a bit more on that, adding an awkward: "S-She's connected to my heart. And so to my thoughts and feelings."
no subject
“Well, ah... while there are reasons, certainly, a lot of people don't seem to stay mad at me too long.” A moment's hesitation then he quickly adds, “Not that they shouldn't? I mean, people are allowed to feel however they want, but if I have upset someone, I do try to fix the problem sooner rather than later. That way feelings don't sit and fester.”
Thank whatever higher powers, he'll never, ever stab Inigo in the chest or anything else awful like that! Nobody should be appreciative of being stabbed of all things.
Poor Jumblie, still scorned despite her actions being explained! Though Sizhui's not even thinking about that anymore, initially too distracted by ‘I wouldn't mind you being here,’ then drawn in and further engrossed with the explanation of the sweet little creature being connected to Inigo's heart. Frankly, taking into account how friendly and cuddly she is, he isn't surprised by this revelation.
“Now it makes sense why the two of you seem so similar,” Sizhui remarks with a faint grin, softening shortly thereafter. “Which is a good thing, by the way, you are both quite sweet and extremely kind.”
no subject
Listen to that compliment! Jumblie sure is, which is why she's totally perking up over here. Suddenly the tiny sunshine creature looks so excited, happy that her sweet and kind nature is being acknowledged - and therefore being appreciated, instilling a smile in this wonderful young man over here!
She's totally affectionately rubbing her head against Sizhui now. Guess who is now officially higgledy approved.
Inigo seems to take the compliment in with a lot more embarrassment than the higgledy though. He just has to rub the back of his head here, unsure how to deal with the praise..
"By Naga, I'm not sure what to do if you compliment me any more than this.. I-I'm not quite sure I can live up to it."
no subject
This doesn't last long because the moment she starts nuzzling him all cute-like, he can't resist turning, wastes no time scooping her up into his arms and giving her a firm, yet still gentle embrace.
She is so cute, how's he supposed to resist returning the affectionate little gesture? Gosh, his heart...!
But his attention redirects to Inigo, expression softening, smile wavering the faintest amount. “Ah... okay, okay,” he insists, adjusting the placement of his arms so Jumblie is carefully still cradled in one, the other lifting and gesturing in a deferential manner. “I'll stop, since I'd hate for you to feel bad in any sort of way.”
