An epic quest

Who: Romeo, Roland with Tidus and Inigo in here as well!
Where: Starting in the library
When: Imagination, day 19
What: Romeo is on a SECRET MISSION
Warnings:

Romeo skips into the library and looks around his face a look of barely contained excitement and extreme concentration. He keeps the words in his head carefully. Mister Tidus and Mister Inigo are counting on him so he has to make sure that he doesn't mess anything up!

He is a common sight around the library, due to Elfnein being there so much. But today it is not his goddess that he is looking for, but mister Roland!

He skips through the aisles until he finds the man and then waves, running over and stopping when he gets close, greeting him with a huge grin.

"Hello mister Roland!" He keeps his voice low, he knows you have to be quiet in a library!

Romeo bounced along beside him and watched as he looked on the ICP on the passenger roster, that was really smart of him! Romeo grinned and shook his head at the question.

"Oh... Oops I'm not sure I'm meant to say when it's wrong either..."

He's a little unsure. But nonetheless. "It's not them though!"

He shakes his head in slight amusement. At least he has an out if he wants to quit on the riddle. But he won't take it! It's a relatively simple riddle, he's sure to get it.

"Huh. Well, I guess that would have been too obvious. Let's see..."

Roland looks through the passenger roster in case he misses out any names, twice over just to be sure. The caveat here is that it had to be both, king and loyal advisor. There were plenty of kings. There were plenty of people who could pass as loyal advisors.

Wasn't Senku technically a king of his kingdom of Science? He tries that next, facing Romeo once more with a hand on his hip.

"Is it Senku and Gen?"

"Mmm Maybe!" He grinned, doing better this time even as he was bouncing on his feet, doing his best not to give away the answer.

"It doesn't got to be a person though!"

"What? It doesn't have to be a person...?"

If there was anything to throw him off for a loop, it's most definitely that. A king and his loyal advisor will have his treasure, but they don't have to be people? So was he looking at this all wrong? He hums deeply to himself, glancing back at the ICP but deciding it has no more bearing to this riddle game. He takes the ticket back and pockets it. At least Romeo seems ready to start giving him clues...but no, he has to try even harder.

If the answer doesn't necessarily have to be a person, then it could only be -

"Are you talking about someone's pet, then?" Roland posits curiously, more intrigued and energized than he gave himself credit for.

"Nope!" He shook his head again, still bouncing in his excitement. "It doesn't got to be alive at all!"

Maybe that was too many clues! But this is exciting, he wants Roland to find the treasure as quickly as he can! The figuring things out is what makes it fun!

"That doesn't make any sense." Roland's frown is slowly deepening, and what started off as a feeling of taking up a challenge is becoming something vaguely resembling morbid intrigue. He's not even wondering who in the world is setting him up for a riddle, though there are some key suspects that could come to mind if he gave it enough time to stew.

Thankfully, he's stuck in stage one. Roland holds for a moment, watches Romeo move when he stands still. A glance behind his previous space in the library connects a potential answer, too prideful to give up and ask for a more explicit hint.

"Unless you're talking about a king and a loyal advisor inside a story? Like in a book?" A beat. "Is it back there, inside?"

His face fell slightly. Did it not make sense? He hadn't made up the riddle but he had thought it was a good one!

"Um... Sort of like a story I guess... But not in the library! Another carriage!"

Hopefully that is enough of a clue.

"Aha, so it is a place!" Roland's glad to hear that piece of validation at the very least, if only because the thought had occurred to him apart from the answer potentially being a pet. But it seemed too unlikely to even consider...until now, that is.

"But which carriage could it be? A king and their loyal advisor..."

He could go through it one by one, it was eventually going to stop being a guessing game and more of a process of elimination. He thinks quietly, looking at the floor as thoughts run wild. First, he tries: "If it's not in the library, than is it the Dining Car? Or Kitchen Car?" The Engine Room comes to mind too for one reason or another, but it's a closed space so it made very little sense to search there next. Or did it? For now, he waits for Romeo's signal if he's warm, or if he's gotten it at all.

Romeo grinned, because Roland had got it right! It was a carriage! Romeo's clues had worked!

He bounced but shook his head at the guesses. "Near there though... But not that far!"

Good. That's a good answer because that means it's all up to multiple choice now. He's narrowed the margin of error. If it's close to those areas, then that leaves...

"Stores? Or Quiet Car?"

"A bit further than that!"

But he has the right idea! He's so close! Romeo bounced happily beside him.

Further than that? He imagines walking down the line, pressing doors and crossing hallways. Roland continues to recite his choices out loud, and stops only when he feels like he's gotten to the answer.

"There's the kitchen, there's medical, games..." He's forgetting one car in particular, which he says while meeting Romeo's eye with a quirk in his lip. "Gym?"

He tried to keep his face straight but when Roland said games his eyes lit up excitedly!

He tries to stop grinning though and nods wisely. "It might be one of those ones sir!"

Right on cue. Going through that short list enumerated, it can't be anything other than that, a brow at the raise. "The games car? Huh."

A king and his loyal advisor, and the answer is in the games car?

"Is...that where we need to go? Are you taking me there? Is there a second riddle?" Roland adds, already ready to walk in that direction. This was proving more and more interesting, if not confusing, and though his expression tell a different story, Roland is already quite invested where this will all lead him.

"Yes!" He could take him there, he set off, looking over his shoulder to grin at Roland as they walked.

"A king and loyal adviser is in the game carriage! You just gotta find them!"

Roland follows dutifully. Don't mind that he might be walking a bit brisker than he would have admitted out loud; this is all so intriguing to him now. Who was he going to find? What is all this? What a way to spend the day, indeed.

"No more clues and hints for me, Romeo? Come on, from a friend to a friend? Heh."

He's not totally serious here, but if Romeo wants to share...!

Romeo had to skip a little to keep up but he doesn't mind, he knows mister Roland must be very excited to find the treasure!

He was excited himself! "You got to think about it, what might have a king and a loyal adviser in the game room?"

Mister Roland was very clever so he was sure he would figure it out soon!

"I'm gonna be honest with you Romeo, a part of me is a little stumped about all this. But I'm not one to give up so soon. I'll keep at it until the mystery is truly solved."

Roland is in good spirits regardless of the riddle or the clues that fly past his head. Maybe he's overthinking things but they're already on their way to the games car and sooner than later, they arrive by the door.

"Is it on this floor, or the top car?" He asks promptly.

"You're doing really well sir! Riddles are really tricky but you are smart so I know you'll get it by the end!"

He nodded, he had every faith in Roland after all. So did Inigo or Tidus or they wouldn't have made the riddle so tricky.

At the question he grinned and pointed upwards.

"Heh. Thanks. Well then...Time to meet whatever this is."

Second floor? With one hand poised at his hip, he nods to Romeo and makes his way there, taking his time, wondering what surprise awaits him next. At the bend, he peers through the opening of the partition, already skeptical.

Romeo follows him with a smile, pausing behind him as Roland looks into the room.

Upstairs there is the VR in one part, in the other there are some large games, currently the only one that is out and set up is the giant game of chess.

When he steps foot further in, the VR set up is what makes him pause momentarily. From left to right, Roland scans both parts of the room and looks no less confused than he did earlier. But the VR...he knows what that is and his train of thought evolves from wonder to small jolts of realization.

A king and his loyal advisor...!

With wide eyes, he turns to Romeo, a subtle nudge of his head towards the direction of the headsets.

"I think I'm getting it. Do I need to play?"

The video game of course, but the chess set does linger somewhere along his periphery too...for what reason?

"Why would you need to play that?"

Voice raised, it comes from behind the two, a figure appearing almost like magic when Tidus hadn't been visible a moment ago. But Tidus stands now, out from where the tall pieces sit - pawns, knights, and bishops of chess, the jenga blocks to another side, and circular disks for draughts. Fists sitting comfortable on his sides, a smile cocked and good-natured, good-humoured.

"Never thought you'd get here," he teases. "We get your brain racking on that one? What do you think, Romeo? Did ol' Rol here do a good job?"

He looks to the boy, smile pinching wider, fun.

"H-Hey, you didn't tell me we were supposed to jump out ye--"

There's a half-whine, half-protest coming from somewhere behind the chess set as well, before Inigo slowly moves into view as well. A little less gracefully (or let's say, looking less mastermind-y than Tidus over here), but here he is. He is present too. Even though Tidus went ahead by himself, ruining Inigo's shot at a cool entrance!

(As if Inigo could ever make a cool entrance.)

He exhales, before trying to gather himself enough to look a little more confident, and say: "Well, if he got this far, it's since Romeo must've done such a good job at guiding him!" Might as well give the cute kid some compliments for helping them out on this one.

Romeo grinned as Tidus and his friend Inigo jumped out. He grinned even wider when Inigo told him he did a good job.

"Yes! Mister Roland is really really smart so he figured it out no problem!"

A little bit of help, but that's what teamwork is for!
