what's left to guide me [open]
Who: Seto Kaiba and anyone/everyone he can't successfully avoid (that's you!)
Where: Various (library/kitchen/sauna) + some closed prompts in comments, more on request!
When: Imagination 22
What: Having finally resigned from the council, Kaiba's left to figure out just who he's supposed to be now. One problem: it's a little hard to have a private crisis when train is Small.
Warnings: Possible mentions of violent history/suicide. Those will be warned for/asked about before it comes up, after clearing it with the player.
a. library car
Hearing answers from the train had been a temporary respite from Dealing With This, but when there's no trainwide distraction going on, you have to make your own respite. That's why he'll be avoiding his usual trademark car of Games, sticking to an alcove in the upstairs library.
He perched awkwardly at a desk with his laptop at his fingerprints, dressed simply in his black turtleneck and black leather pants. He'd left all the flashy accessories behind today. He's absorbed in lines of code on one half of the screen, some kind of bizarre game taking form on the other. It's just a swirling ooze of picture for now, almost like a black hole. An apt metaphor for his life at the moment.
Eventually, he drops his head in his hands over the keyboard. The black hole eats all the other characters on the screen. It's a good effect, but...definitely needs improving.
b. kitchen scrubbing
One thing he can do, at a minimum, is his chores. He throws himself into them with gusto, vigorously scrubbing soap stains at sinks and sweeping crumbs. He's careful to wait until just after the cooking team has cleared out from each meal, hopefully before anyone comes wandering in for a snack.
He's aggressive on the counters and dishes, mopping and scrubbing the floors with all the strength he has. He's on a single mission: to make it all shine. At least until the next mealtime.
c. late night sauna
Sauna enthusiasts have long preached that a sweat session in these rooms can cure most ills. Sleeplessness is one of them, though whether feeling lost counts is up for debate. Seto decides it's worth a shot when the hour becomes quite late---his tossing and turning will wake his boyfriend if he's not more careful.
Yes, leaving it all behind sounds like an excellent idea. He enters with a towel slung over his hips and drops bonelessly onto a bench, determined to sweat whatever this is out of his system for good.

[ He follows...thinking for a moment on how he can phrase this. ]
I know resigning was best for the train. They weren't happy with my performance, and everyone can advocate for themselves.
But I don't know what happens to people after they fail at a job and leave in...what you might call normal circumstances. As I'm sure you know, Kaiba Corp transitions weren't at all peaceful.
no subject
....I mean...I dunno abou' you but I don' think y' can really...run th' train crew like a company...hell ev'n a normal syst'm of 'who's in charge' ain't gonna work w'th people going around like revolvin' doors righ'?
[He appears to be heading for a certain car with a ruined ICP...hm.] Don' beat yerself up over it, sounds t' me like a better syst'm is jus' everyone talkin t' each other on equal ground anyway.
no subject
Right. And they can do that freely, now. I trust the ones who remain to keep everything open and friendly.
But I don't know where I stand with the others anymore.
no subject
[Now then, up they go and...] Here we are!
Whadya think? Can y' fix it? Took me a bit, but I asked th' train if it was alrigh' durin' tha' whole bit after I proved I'm th' real me, an' th's was the damage report!
no subject
[ He doesn't mention how he knows this, but instead kneels and gets to work. ]
...what do you mean, proved you were the real you?
no subject
Anyway.
Oh, yeah! Well, w'th what everyone was sayin' after we left th' last planet, it started feelin like those sci-fi movies y'know? All spooky an' shit.
So when th' train said we could ask questions, th' first thing I asked wound up bein' if all our memories an' such were really ours.
So far as th' train figures, we're as real an' ourselves as we c'n get. Nothin' tampered upstairs at all!
no subject
[ And he means it. It's genuinely good to know. He'd worried about that occasionally for a minute. ]
...hm, do you think we should summon him? Just to ensure there's no lingering water?
no subject
AAAOURR? [HELLO YES IS HE NEEDED NOW]
..............Well, he's here now.
RROURRRRR?
no subject
[ Seto is startled, but only for a moment, and gives the dragon's head a gentle pat. ]
I guess you heard. We just need you to dry out the inside of the panel, so I can fix it without hurting myself.
no subject
Righ', y' heard 'm. Give it a good like breeze!
[The dragon- after giving a sort of chuffing sound- nods and simply exhales. It's barely even visible- but it Is very warm, and certainly sufficient enough.]
How's that?
no subject
[ And Seto gives the dragon one last pat before getting to work. ]
...am I spoiling him?
no subject
[To that, the dragon immediately snaps his head toward Katsuya.] Nyh-!
Oi, tha' doesn't mean I'm gettin' y' any!! You don't even have t' eat!
no subject
Think we should test it out?
no subject
[Or, you know, handle it the way is actually physically possible. It's supposed to sound cool, ok!]
no subject
[ He gets an irritated grumble from one of the sleeper cabins and soon backs away. ]
All right, it's done. But you'd think the train could fix itself, with everything else it does to us...
[ A moment of thought. ]
But it has a lot of problems we don't know about, doesn't it.
no subject
Though the cheer fades a bit as Kaiba asks the question.] ...I think...'s because it's tryin' t' make folks happy.
When I got 'm to say what was wrong, it went an' added tha' some of th' damages seemed t' be f'r convenience. Shit like th' library in th' standard car, an' tha' lab.
Someone would've had t' break this themselves righ'? I think... ....it didn' wanna make 'm upset, fixin it up like tha'.
no subject
[ He sets a hand on the train's wall, thoughtful for a moment. ]
I guess it's trying to reach a small compromise with us, since we didn't have a say in all this.
no subject
.....................] ...wait did you jus' make a-
[A DIRTY JOKE??? FROM KAIBA???
SINCE WHEN-
Ah, well, his thoughts catch up before he can finish the statement.] AH- Yeah! 'specially since we're all like...tied t' th' thing. Not a whole lot happy abou' tha'....
no subject
No, but it's our situation. We deal with it together.
I'm still working on that last part, but...
[ A beat. He locks eyes with Jou. ]
You've helped.
no subject
[He laughs- and even if he has a slight idea of what he's helped with, it doesn't stop him from just shrugging.] Heh! All I did was find th' best guy f'r th' job, righ'? Don' sweat it!
