Happy Birthday, Senku!
Who: OTA
Where: Dining Carriage
When: Jelly 4
What: Prompts are under the cut. Create your own top levels! Tag around!Get more points!
Warnings: more cake than the recommended serving size
Birthday Prep! (OTA except Senku)
Setting up food!
Plenty of people have offered to bring a number of treats - cookies, savory dishes, snacks ... Gen was placing a half-sheet cake, decorated with planets and with 'Happy Birthday Senku' written in frosting on the table. He looked quite pleased with himself, and would help lend a hand with other food.
Setting up decorations!
There were roughly a hundred origami stars to fold, which Gen would spend most of his time doing, especially if he didn't have any help. But after, he'd be stringing them up all around the dining car, creating an effect like a starry sky from the ceiling.
Setting up party favors!
Then, of course, there were paper flower crowns to fold. Gen had no idea how many people would end up coming, so he wanted a fair number - any extras could sit in the Arms Band or up his sleeves as part of a surprise to spring on people later. You never knew when you needed a paper flower crown!
Setting up the escape room!
This is really what Gen hoped he'd get the most help with. He only had so many math tricks up his sleeve, and he was very certain that Senku knew them all already. At least Nita would be lending a hand! Otherwise, Gen was sure any room he'd make, Senku would solve in minutes.
BIRTHDAY PARTY
Greetings!
Gen would greet the newcomer with a bright smile and an origami flower crown - placed right on their head! He'd direct them to the food, and let them know of the escape room upstairs. Have a lovely time!
Food!
Cake! Cookies! Popcorn! There's some spicy, savory food that's been made by other passengers, too. But hey, at least take a slice of cake. That's what this party's all about!
Escape Room!
Featuring math, puns, and clever little questions fellow Voidtrain passengers could come up with. Of course, anyone can enter and leave as they'd like, but perhaps if they look particularly stuck on a problem, another person could help them out?
Birthday Boy!
Somewhere in this mess, Senku would be available to chat with. Probably. He's not really expecting a party, or gifts, or even a kind thank you - but all would be appreciated.

"Shit!" --like now, staring at his folded paper done up to a point just before he's meant to put some scissors to it. He raises his paper folded up, and nevermind Roland's concentration here--
"Yo, Rol, does this look okay?"
He didn't fold it in the wrong place, did he?!
no subject
Which is why he's unflappable when Tidus shows him his work, glancing up at his station in half a second before he already spots the error. "Hold on. Turn it around for me?" He'll finish up the star in his possession, and two folds and one tuck of a corner later, all attention is on the tiny thing in Tidus's hands. He hums, studying it up close, before he takes one of the stars in his pile and unravels it again at the exact step he's determined Tidus might be in the process. This, he shows him, two fingers pinched against the corner and slowly going through the motion again.
"Do this before you cut it in half. Following so far?"
no subject
"It doesn't look right, does it? That thicker bit looks bigger than it usually does."
It's a criticism that Tidus is about to hold the star paper closer to himself to inspect, except that's when Roland brings up his own. His squinting gaze falls on his instead.
"Alright..." Alright, he thinks he's got that. But he looks back at his own. "I'm gonna be able to do that?"
He didn't screw up the whole thing by messing up that step, did he? Tidus starts carefully peeling back the section, worried about being too rough with the paper. Causing him to go slow, but also making it difficult for him to assess if he's safe. There's just no screwing up with paper without wasting it!
no subject
It's why he's working as slowly as he is, too. There's a whole pile of messed up stars that he's already disposed of, paper wasted and apologized for without delay.
His hand reaches for the said origami piece, as Tidus's question prompts him an even closer look. Yikes. He shakes his head, honest with the assessment. "Err, it's fine. Keep going and maybe tuck the opposite corner in. It'll look like a shooting star." A beat, then a smile. "I'm sure stars all look unique anyway, you know?"
To attest; Roland's own star collection are all of varying sizes, some large, some small, and others almost deformed. But in spite of this variety, they're all at least clean to look at. Does that merit a nice pretend paper night sky? He hopes so.

Message received, Roland. Tidus appreciates the effort, his remark not even biting or offended (but, maybe a little downtrodden), but actually complimentary. But as Tidus takes it back to view his...possibly imperfect star, he remembers a well-learned lesson: You don't get anywhere in blitzball without a few knocks to the head.
And look at him now.
Tidus decides to see the outcome of his star to the end. He just needs to cut the part that still needs cutting, adding the clue...
"Y'think Gen or Senku'll want to keep the stars at the end of the day?"
no subject
So for now, he just leans back. Cut it good, pro!
"I hope so, though knowing Senku, he might not see the point. It's not very practical, and he doesn't quite strike me as sentimental." Roland hums, before a thought occurs to him rather quickly. "Though you know, I could argue that it'd be a waste of paper to dispose of these designs. We could repurpose them for another celebration. Think they'll be convinced?"
no subject
To the next one!
"Hey, I hope so! Is this even paper Gen got? The lot Webmind swapped me for book's not gonna last forever." The poor art supplies! "I should get some more, since he's not around anymore. You ever see the internet he had in him? He showed me his earth!"
no subject
It's calming work, truly. Though talk of internet makes Roland curious enough to engage, a glance shared with Tidus in interest.
"I didn't know he had digital access..." Where was he getting signal from?? "But I was sorry to see him leave. I hope he's doing all right, wherever he's returned to." Roland has a small triangle in his hand now, but the folding continues, paced with his current star-folding companion for the moment. "What was his earth like?"
Long has he stopped assuming his earth was the same as everyone else's, after all.
no subject
"Round and...blue? And white," he says, unsure of if that's a useful description at all. He's never been a painter of words. "He showed me it from pretty far away - a shot from space. I asked him to show me his favourite place or thing he liked, and that's what he shared. It was all ocean and clouds... but it was still cool."
Even for what sounds simple when he describes it.
...oh man, here comes all the finicky part of the folding now...
no subject
"Hm. That's Earth, all right." His hands become even more deliberate in the slow folds and creasing of the paper to form shape, a smile drawn from his lips in nostalgia. When you're fully prepared to stay in another world, you have to train yourself to let go of certain perspectives, after all.
Still. Webmind had the right mind to show Tidus such a place, preserved through memory.
Roland stops completely to throw another cursory glance at Tidus's handiwork. He doesn't intervene yet, but keeps his eyes trained where they need to be. At the stages where Tidus falters or double-guesses the next step, Roland offers his own as a template, mirroring the star so he can follow along, arms outstretched.
"Tuck it in. Then make the fold a bit smaller in the corner so it looks even." Roland says patiently.
The idea from before comes back as he watches even closer. "You're right. I hope they do keep the stars. A lot of work goes into one decoration. It'd be a shame and a waste to discard them after the party." Seriously! It's definitely an artform, regardless of expertise.
no subject
(Or getting there. Whatever.)
Let's not think or focus on any of that, though.
"We gonna get a party box? " Tidus makes a gesturing motion. "Come here and stick all your party decorations!"
no subject
Unfortunately, he has to stop and stare at his work that he so proudly shows to Tidus to guide him on the star's right shape. So much for his own expertise. Seems its a lack thereof, as Roland takes it in stride and chuckles in sheer amusement, longer than his usual chortles, showing Tidus a rather interesting shape.
"Well, I never said I was an origami expert." He says, unfolding the large, protruding spoke to try and rectify the situation. "Sorry. How's yours looking?"
