Happy Birthday, Senku!

Birthday Prep! (OTA except Senku)


Setting up food!

Plenty of people have offered to bring a number of treats - cookies, savory dishes, snacks ... Gen was placing a half-sheet cake, decorated with planets and with 'Happy Birthday Senku' written in frosting on the table. He looked quite pleased with himself, and would help lend a hand with other food.

There were roughly a hundred origami stars to fold, which Gen would spend most of his time doing, especially if he didn't have any help. But after, he'd be stringing them up all around the dining car, creating an effect like a starry sky from the ceiling.


Setting up party favors!

Then, of course, there were paper flower crowns to fold. Gen had no idea how many people would end up coming, so he wanted a fair number - any extras could sit in the Arms Band or up his sleeves as part of a surprise to spring on people later. You never knew when you needed a paper flower crown!


Setting up the escape room!

This is really what Gen hoped he'd get the most help with. He only had so many math tricks up his sleeve, and he was very certain that Senku knew them all already. At least Nita would be lending a hand! Otherwise, Gen was sure any room he'd make, Senku would solve in minutes.


BIRTHDAY PARTY

Greetings!

Gen would greet the newcomer with a bright smile and an origami flower crown - placed right on their head! He'd direct them to the food, and let them know of the escape room upstairs. Have a lovely time!

Food!

Cake! Cookies! Popcorn! There's some spicy, savory food that's been made by other passengers, too. But hey, at least take a slice of cake. That's what this party's all about!

Escape Room!

Featuring math, puns, and clever little questions fellow Voidtrain passengers could come up with. Of course, anyone can enter and leave as they'd like, but perhaps if they look particularly stuck on a problem, another person could help them out?

Birthday Boy!

Somewhere in this mess, Senku would be available to chat with. Probably. He's not really expecting a party, or gifts, or even a kind thank you - but all would be appreciated.

It's a...shooting star that's trying its best, once it's cut. One pointed end thinner than its siblings, and Tidus twirls it around with a bit of a wince at the obvious detail, but. He sets it down, decides not to fuss over it.

"Hey, I hope so! Is this even paper Gen got? The lot Webmind swapped me for book's not gonna last forever." The poor art supplies! "I should get some more, since he's not around anymore. You ever see the internet he had in him? He showed me his earth!"

When he's back with a fresh sheet of paper, Roland comes in a bit closer in an attempt to guide this new star into its ideal mold. But this he instructs silently, slowing in parts, watching to see if he can proceed, or repeat a folded step.

It's calming work, truly. Though talk of internet makes Roland curious enough to engage, a glance shared with Tidus in interest.

"I didn't know he had digital access..." Where was he getting signal from?? "But I was sorry to see him leave. I hope he's doing all right, wherever he's returned to." Roland has a small triangle in his hand now, but the folding continues, paced with his current star-folding companion for the moment. "What was his earth like?"

Long has he stopped assuming his earth was the same as everyone else's, after all.

Tidus will accept the watchful eye...for now. As long as there's not too much fussing, since Tidus mostly has the instructions down. Fold a sheet in half, then fold a quarter, then a quarter into that quarter... watch it really, really carefully...

"Round and...blue? And white," he says, unsure of if that's a useful description at all. He's never been a painter of words. "He showed me it from pretty far away - a shot from space. I asked him to show me his favourite place or thing he liked, and that's what he shared. It was all ocean and clouds... but it was still cool."

Even for what sounds simple when he describes it.

...oh man, here comes all the finicky part of the folding now...

It's in Tidus's favor that despite the simplicity of his descriptions, Roland knows precisely what particular shot of the planet he's referring to. It may not be the exact same picture, and it may be a completely different reality than Roland's own...But the round, the blue, the white. Made up of oceans and clouds up in the sky; yes, it could only be the one.

"Hm. That's Earth, all right." His hands become even more deliberate in the slow folds and creasing of the paper to form shape, a smile drawn from his lips in nostalgia. When you're fully prepared to stay in another world, you have to train yourself to let go of certain perspectives, after all.

Still. Webmind had the right mind to show Tidus such a place, preserved through memory.

Roland stops completely to throw another cursory glance at Tidus's handiwork. He doesn't intervene yet, but keeps his eyes trained where they need to be. At the stages where Tidus falters or double-guesses the next step, Roland offers his own as a template, mirroring the star so he can follow along, arms outstretched.

"Tuck it in. Then make the fold a bit smaller in the corner so it looks even." Roland says patiently.

The idea from before comes back as he watches even closer. "You're right. I hope they do keep the stars. A lot of work goes into one decoration. It'd be a shame and a waste to discard them after the party." Seriously! It's definitely an artform, regardless of expertise.

...You know, Roland might be helpful and all, and the guy may not look that much older than him (or does he look older enough?), but there's that pinch of embarrassment that doesn't form outwardly as more than an a "oh," following the steps given and the reminder. Where Tidus can't help but feel there's a year more years knocked off him, and he's more like a kid than an actual adult himself.

(Or getting there. Whatever.)

Let's not think or focus on any of that, though.

"We gonna get a party box? " Tidus makes a gesturing motion. "Come here and stick all your party decorations!"

"Hey, that's not a bad idea at all." Roland nods, visibly pleased. His arms retract and the star in his own hand is rotated once, so its back to being right side up. "Like I said, it pays to recycle especially when we put so much work into - "

Unfortunately, he has to stop and stare at his work that he so proudly shows to Tidus to guide him on the star's right shape. So much for his own expertise. Seems its a lack thereof, as Roland takes it in stride and chuckles in sheer amusement, longer than his usual chortles, showing Tidus a rather interesting shape.

"Well, I never said I was an origami expert." He says, unfolding the large, protruding spoke to try and rectify the situation. "Sorry. How's yours looking?"
