Birthday Prep! (OTA except Senku)

Setting up food!

Plenty of people have offered to bring a number of treats - cookies, savory dishes, snacks ... Gen was placing a half-sheet cake, decorated with planets and with 'Happy Birthday Senku' written in frosting on the table. He looked quite pleased with himself, and would help lend a hand with other food.

Setting up decorations!

There were roughly a hundred origami stars to fold, which Gen would spend most of his time doing, especially if he didn't have any help. But after, he'd be stringing them up all around the dining car, creating an effect like a starry sky from the ceiling.

Setting up party favors!

Then, of course, there were paper flower crowns to fold. Gen had no idea how many people would end up coming, so he wanted a fair number - any extras could sit in the Arms Band or up his sleeves as part of a surprise to spring on people later. You never knew when you needed a paper flower crown!

Setting up the escape room!

This is really what Gen hoped he'd get the most help with. He only had so many math tricks up his sleeve, and he was very certain that Senku knew them all already. At least Nita would be lending a hand! Otherwise, Gen was sure any room he'd make, Senku would solve in minutes.

BIRTHDAY PARTY

Greetings!

Gen would greet the newcomer with a bright smile and an origami flower crown - placed right on their head! He'd direct them to the food, and let them know of the escape room upstairs. Have a lovely time!

Food!

Cake! Cookies! Popcorn! There's some spicy, savory food that's been made by other passengers, too. But hey, at least take a slice of cake. That's what this party's all about!

Escape Room!

Featuring math, puns, and clever little questions fellow Voidtrain passengers could come up with. Of course, anyone can enter and leave as they'd like, but perhaps if they look particularly stuck on a problem, another person could help them out?

Birthday Boy!

Somewhere in this mess, Senku would be available to chat with. Probably. He's not really expecting a party, or gifts, or even a kind thank you - but all would be appreciated.

"All right, I'll order all three of those books," said Curufin. "And I agree, it would be good to have sources that spoke of illnesses and conditions other than battle injuries."

"Yeah, and the medcar has a lot more resources which just makes it all the more easy to handle. Some of the medicine you ordered before was for things like that." Senku wasn't sure if he knew that or not. "Haibara shared my concerns about things like that, but then again in my world that's the kind of thing that can kill you if you're not careful."

"I'm not very familiar with modern medical concoctions, but I did get the impression that those medicines I ordered were for a wide variety of illnesses and conditions. If they are good remedies, then it's well that you have them in stock. Let me know if you run out of anything, because I can almost always order more."

"That's correct, many of them more chronic conditions less situated to battle, but it's hard to know what will happen with people." Senku admitted. "Over time, people develop conditions no matter how healthy they are when they come on the train, unless the tether prevents that, but I can't be sure about that. It's better to have the backup."

"It's really fascinating, when those books are here, they might be interesting to check out for you if you aren't aware of everything modern medicine came up with."

Curufin lifted his eyebrows. "You've noticed a lot of people developing chronic health conditions, once they're on the Voidtrecker? I wonder why that happens? The train doesn't strike me as an unhealthy place, but then, I could be wrong about that. I'm an Elf, and that means I almost never get sick, so I wouldn't be able to check out that hypothesis using myself for data. I certainly hope the tether prevents some people from getting sick. And I agree, having the medicines as backup is essential."

He nodded. "The books will arrive at the next platform. What do you do with them? Do they go into the train's library, or do you have a separate medical library in the Medical Carriage? Yes, you're right. I should read them myself."

"No, actually." Senku shook his head. "No one, I think, but then again that doesn't mean they won't. We haven't really been here long enough to determine that. Given the age of the people on average, taken aboard, the odds of developping chronic conditions goes down significantly."

He sighed lightly. "But then again we could be immune, or not, but it would be brutal for someone to present with a problem and have to wait two weeks for treatment, and it could lead to a worsening of a condition, or even something more dire, depending."

"I know there was a bit of discussion, but for now the medical books are still in the medical car." Senku smiled. "I didn't mean that in a bad way, they're just really fascinating to me."

"That could be true. Nobody's been here longer than a few years, and that's not much observation time. And most of the people are young, not to mention healthy. Young, healthy people tend not to develop chronic conditions."

Curufin gave him a sympathetic look. Medical problems were Senku's responsibility, since he had volunteered as a doctor. He'd feel bad if he had a patient and didn't have a remedy for that person's illness. And even if the medicines could be obtained from the train store, there was always a wait. Hence, the importance of having a variety of remedies on hand, so nobody had to wait.

Curufin smiled back at him. "I must have missed the discussion. Some people probably want all the books in the library, but I think it would be good if you had them handy in case you had to look up something really fast. I don't blame you for keeping them in the Medical Car. And don't worry, I didn't take that as a criticism. I know the books are fascinating to you. So naturally, you'd recommend them to someone who likes to collect knowledge -- like me."

"Correct. The average age of the people on board make it statistically low to happen, but you never know. In this place where we can actually be prepared, it's much better to take that step than to be..." Senku waved his hand a bit. "Caught off-guard."

"Just a conversation I remember having, but since the books remained where they are, when S'reee asked around, the other doctors must've felt they were better served there." Senku observed. It was probably true, to a point.

He chuckled. "Just checking. I know I don't express myself well. Since you don't know much about it, it might be an interesting read."

He was the kind of person who considered medical textbooks to be light reading for fun.

"It's always better to be prepared," agreed Curufin.

The books were probably better kept in the Medical Carriage, and it made sense that the other doctors thought so, too.

Curufin laughed with him. "You express yourself well enough. And you're right, I would be interested in reading some of those books. I could come to the Medical Carriage and borrow a book to read but not take it off the premises. I'll just bring a chair and find a corner where I won't be in the way. I do spend a little of every day reading, so I wouldn't mind a new topic and some new knowledge."

They were in accord, in a way, since Curufin considered engineering books to be light reading.

Yep sounds good, they can ramble on next chance.

"I don't think you have to go that far." Senku chuckled. "Sometimes I grab one to read, but I read fast so I just put it back. If anyone needed information in the interim, they could find me anyway." He admitted, he had an encyclopedic knowledge as it was.

"But it's not a terrible idea. You might find it really interesting. Pathogens were my favourite thing to read about."
