Happy Birthday, Senku!

Birthday Prep! (OTA except Senku)


Setting up food!

Plenty of people have offered to bring a number of treats - cookies, savory dishes, snacks ... Gen was placing a half-sheet cake, decorated with planets and with 'Happy Birthday Senku' written in frosting on the table. He looked quite pleased with himself, and would help lend a hand with other food.


Setting up decorations!

There were roughly a hundred origami stars to fold, which Gen would spend most of his time doing, especially if he didn't have any help. But after, he'd be stringing them up all around the dining car, creating an effect like a starry sky from the ceiling.


Setting up party favors!

Then, of course, there were paper flower crowns to fold. Gen had no idea how many people would end up coming, so he wanted a fair number - any extras could sit in the Arms Band or up his sleeves as part of a surprise to spring on people later. You never knew when you needed a paper flower crown!


Setting up the escape room!

This is really what Gen hoped he'd get the most help with. He only had so many math tricks up his sleeve, and he was very certain that Senku knew them all already. At least Nita would be lending a hand! Otherwise, Gen was sure any room he'd make, Senku would solve in minutes.


BIRTHDAY PARTY

Greetings!

Gen would greet the newcomer with a bright smile and an origami flower crown - placed right on their head! He'd direct them to the food, and let them know of the escape room upstairs. Have a lovely time!

Food!

Cake! Cookies! Popcorn! There's some spicy, savory food that's been made by other passengers, too. But hey, at least take a slice of cake. That's what this party's all about!

Escape Room!

Featuring math, puns, and clever little questions fellow Voidtrain passengers could come up with. Of course, anyone can enter and leave as they'd like, but perhaps if they look particularly stuck on a problem, another person could help them out?

Birthday Boy!

Somewhere in this mess, Senku would be available to chat with. Probably. He's not really expecting a party, or gifts, or even a kind thank you - but all would be appreciated.

"You have a point." Senku agreed with a nod. "Not many reasons to meditate these days."

"Yes, you sort of... front-loaded a lot of that and got it out of the way!"

That's one way to look at being petrified for that long, at least.

"I suppose you could say that, but then again I was always a mostly calm person."

He was definitely a 'revenge served cold' kind of person.

"So you should have been a monk, hm?" Koumyou can't help but tease, of course. "Do you want help shaving your head?"

Senku snickered. "Do you know, I wanted to dismantle the great Buddha statue for bronze? I'm pretty sure if I became a monk, the deity of the day would strike me dead where I stood."

"I mean, it's just a statue," Koumyou shrugs, "is bronze useful enough for the effort it would take?"

"Would have been, but fearing for my soul, Taiju and Yuzuriha wouldn't let me." Senku rolled his eyes. He agreed, it was just a statue.

"Well, I think I've done worse to religious statuary than melt it down for such reasons, and I'm the highest rank of Buddhist priest."

So as far as Koumyou is concerned, Senku would have been fine.

"...Also I've never much cared for the opinions of the gods anyway. To be quite honest, they're mostly jackasses. But the Buddha himself was a pragmatic man."

"I don't believe, myself." Senku commented. "Nothing appealed to me when I looked into it, but I respect that other people do." To him, Koumyou's status didn't mean a whole lot.

Don't worry Senku, Koumyou literally doesn't care who thinks what of his status. It was only relevant in regards to Senku's apparently very concerned friends. Buddhist friends? Either way, Koumyou's kind of the expert on the topic of what one can get away with in regards to Buddhist deities -- if one cares for their godly opinions.

Which Koumyou... does not.

But he's pretty educated on the topic, regardless. Despite his best efforts to nap through all those lectures.

"So what would you have used all that bronze for? Some kind of electrical thing?" That's what a soft metal is mostly good for, right? It's kind of trash for arms or armor...

He just wasn't interested in religion, and he couldn't be sure if his friends were either. If they were, they hadn't said anything to him at least.

"Ah, at the time, I needed a piece to make a mirror, to improve the accuracy of my sextant, but I've circled back to that, my current sextant is much more accurate."

If they weren't at least superstitious about things like souls and Gods, one would think Senku wouldn't have had any opposition to his plan. Or such would be Koumyou's thought on the subject.

But instead of going into all that, he's caught up trying to imagine a bronze... mirror. "I knew it could be polished up quite a bit, but into an actual mirror?"

Or had it been needed as a component, rather than the whole surface? That occurs to him, too, "Aren't old mirrors backed by silver? Is it something like that?"

"Ah, well it's not a mirror like you would think, made of glass or silver, but it was in use from neolithic times until about the Qing dynasty in China." Senku explained.

"It just predated it and we work with what we've got. Except bronze apparently, because Taiju was freaking out about it." He rolled his eyes a little.

"Huh. I've probably even seen one and just not noticed, then."

Being from China, and being of a rank where he gets shooed into all the fanciest estates and temples when he travels. But he's never paid a lot of attention to the decor, despite his hosts' hopes of impressing him. That included all the ancient artifacts squirreled away and put on display.

"So what did you end up using, instead?"

"At the time, nothing, although I have a mirror now. I realized that the reason my sextant was such garbage was because the Earth had tilted and lining it up with Polaris no longer gives true north. So I use a magnet." It was an extra step, but it was worth it in the end.

"Better than going sixteen kilometres off course."

"I guess the planet had plenty of time to... shift like that, huh?"

It's certainly not a problem Koumyou would have considered.

"Yeah." Senku agreed with a bit of a nod. "The Earth has tilted on its axis. Everything about the topography has changed. Mount Fuji, for example, has erupted up to ten times while we were all sleeping."

"That's... uh... that's a famous mountain in Japan, right? I think I've seen a picture..."

Koumyou isn't the most well-traveled guy.

"That's right. It's a stratovolcano, and the highest mountain in Japan, and it's still active."

They were not living close to the volcano, it would be hard to know when it erupted last, frankly and he couldn't deal with that wiping out humanity at the moment.
