Seasons don't fear the reaper
Who: Thanatos & OTA
Where: sleeper/passenger car hallways, greenhouse, training gym
When: Kazoo, Day 2 or 3 (after Jack's "Musical" Mayhem, before dance)
What: Death is being a dork: chores, flower growing, sword practice
Warnings: none
Thanatos may not have paid much attention to Dusa while she worked (or at all really...), but he knows that she was always up high dusting the rafters. Sorry if he startles anyone going through a door to see legs dangling down. He's dusting the top of the door frame. ]
They sprouted… they actually sprouted....
[ Thanatos speaks softly as if he fears being too loud would bring destruction upon them. Green. Growth. Life. He thought they would never sprout. They would never grow. Yet, here they were. Poppies, his and Hypnos's shared symbol, growing in this pot. Nurtured by Death of all people. ]
What do you think, Mort? Do they need more water?
Gods, if Thanatos froze like that while Zagreus needed his help.... No. That's not going to happen. He's going to make sure that he can still fight, still protect… well, more than just Zagreus. It's still strange to think that he's developing a new role for himself on this train.
He summons his sword, not his scythe, and sets his feet upon the ground. Thanatos starts with a few basic motions when he notices he has company. ]
Pardon me. I'm not taking too much space, am I?

Chores: Death approaches the dust
[ A new month means a new type of chore assignment, apparently. At least this one doesn't need someone coaching Thanatos on what to do. He takes to the passenger area first, dressed in the train's standard blue hoodie and cargo pants to keep his own stuff clean. (Zagreus wanted to wear red not blue, so Thanatos just gave him the spare red hoodie he had.) Floating towards the ceiling with a feather duster in his hand, Thanatos gets to work.Thanatos may not have paid much attention to Dusa while she worked (or at all really...), but he knows that she was always up high dusting the rafters. Greenhouse: Thanatos's Poppy Pot has sprouted!
[ Done with chores for the time being, Thanatos has returned to his usual way of dressing (chthonic death god style) and is crouched low to the floor. Mort is perched at the edge of a pot. They stare at nine tiny points of green pushing out of the soil. Thanatos is smiling, awestruck. (An expression that wasn't as rare when he was a godling days ago.) ]They sprouted… they actually sprouted....

Training gym: Trying not to float like a butterfly
[ There should be a mission coming up soon, and Thanatos is determined not to have a repeat of the last time. He had lost his powers, his divinity, and had become useless. He would have been a liability if other passengers hadn't come to his aid.Gods, if Thanatos froze like that while Zagreus needed his help.... No. That's not going to happen. He's going to make sure that he can still fight, still protect… well, more than just Zagreus. It's still strange to think that he's developing a new role for himself on this train.

Training
I can... make do, or wait. I am in no rush. [But the way Eight is kneading her fingers implies she was hoping to use the space sooner rather than later.]
Another sword? [She speaks out her thoughts without thinking. Not that she didn't mind swords, but there definitely seemed to be a lot of sword users on the train.]
no subject
Thinking the question is an honest one, he levitates off the ground, dispelling his sword and bringing out a scythe nearly as tall as him with a small flourish. ]
My scythe is my chosen weapon, but it's unwieldy to use if I'm trying to limit my powers. My sword is easier.

[Once again when he wanders through, there's someone here. He doesn't think too much of it, does note that he looks kinda unique, and stays well out of his way.]
Nah, it's me needin' space. You just go ahead with all that there. [Yondu makes sort of a flappy 'go ahead' hand gesture.] I'll wait it out for bit.
no subject
Thanatos floats upward a small ways and moves over towards the wall. Then he places his feet back on the ground. (It's only after that realize that he could have just walked.... That is why he's practicing.) Thanatos returns to a fighting stance. ]
I just started, so you would be waiting a bit.

Greenhouse!
A person and a plush mouse crouching over plants are a different matter, especially given that he's a little surprised to see the no-longer-a-child god still has the toy with him.
He can't help himself. He joins Thanatos at the pot, crouching himself. "What're you two growing?" he asks. His grin is crooked, his whole mien teasing, because of course the plush is just a toy-- but look at him, still willing to play along!!

"They're poppies. Hypnos and I share it as one of our symbols. Didn't think they'd grow at all." He turns to look back at them. "I told Persephone that I didn't want her blessing. Nothing against her. I just--forget it. The important thing is they actually sprouted."

But no matter, he's there now and is admiring all of the plants in there as he comes across Thanatos smiling at the sprouts. Curiosity piqued, he offers a bright smile of his own.]
What's growing that finally sprouted?
no subject
Poppies. I planted them weeks ago, and this is the first I've seen them above soil.

She was also used to sharing the space with other people. So when Thanatos speaks up, she smiles and shakes her head. ]
No, you're okay. There should be enough room for both of us.
no subject
Very well. I'll be over here.
[ Thanatos takes a few tentative swings of his sword. He's not even using his powers. He shouldn't be this self-conscious of mortals around him. ]

training
No problems here. [ Hm. She watches him go through his exercises before a thought occurs to her. ] You know, for a god who doesn't cover battlefields, you're more armed that I'd have expected.
Re: training
He steps forward during a mock thrust of his blade. ]
The sword was my first means of severing the soul from a body. My scythe came later.

greenhouse
[ Sorry to ruin the mood, Thanatos. But ruining the mood is kind of Alice's speciality, and she really couldn't help but overhear him talking like that while she was looking at some of the other plants around the greenhouse.
She stops walking though after she speaks up, instead looking in the direction of the other and the tiny green buds. ]
Did you think they wouldn't?
no subject
I'm Death Incarnate. I kill things.

[He freezes when he feels an overwhelming power approaching him. He doesn't even have to activate his scanning ability - he can smell and taste and feel the death-related energy from the cloaked figure. His heart is pounding in his ears, and even Bob, perched on the climbing frame, shifts nervously.]
[When the figure speaks up, Casper shakes his head a tiny bit before speaking.]
Y-you're Thanatos, aren't you? P... Persephone said you were on the train...
no subject
Thanatos steels himself to face this newcomer, and he's surprised to see the fear on the other's face. He relaxes a little. ]

Greenhouse
I think you're probably good for now, but you should water than this evening. What kind of plants are they?
no subject
I didn't realize the time of day mattered for watering.
[ He hadn't been paying attention to that. Should he have? Was that why the took so long to sprout? He returns his attention to the sprouts as if hoping they would give him an answer or confirmation. (They do not.) ]

Aziraphale stands nearby, seemingly just looking at some plants on one of the plots, before he manages to catch the wobbledog in the act.
"Ferdinand! Don't bother the gentleman."
no subject
Thanatos turns around to see the strange creature. Some kind of spider-dog? Dog-spider? Whatever it is, it's very colorful. He tugs his himation and chiton a little further away in hopes of discouraging the creature from doing more than smell.
"I have never seen a creature like this."
