Fight Club Open Log! (Catch-All For the Month of Kazoo)
Who: Open to anyone! Make your own toplevel style~
Where: Training gym
When: Throughout the month of Kazoo
What: Training in the gym. Unofficially known as "Fight Club". 47 absolutely does not call it that. But I do!
Warnings: It's a Fight Club! Sorta. Expect (hopefully friendly) violence, maybe some cursing, and whatever else. Free feel to add cw in your toplevels if needed.
Sometime after this month's one-day excursion, 47 makes an announcement on the ICP.
From: Training Gym
To: All Carriages
Make toplevels to your heart's content and tag around to each other freely. Whether your character is offering to teach or wanders in looking for someone to get them involved (or just to watch), this is a post for you! You may use this for any sort of open or even private threads if you so wish.
This log is for anyone who wants to participate in exercising, training, sparring, and teaching lessons. Some of the "classes" also involve things like yoga, meditation, and easier self defense mechanisms for anyone to learn. Magic users also use the facilities to practice their spells! Everyone get use to that crazy lightning storm going off around them as they fight the big bad monster of a training dummy! It's going to happen at some point out in the field, guaranteed!
Basically, if you want to learn new skills that could be useful on missions, come take a peek!
[[ooc note: The typical Fight Club open log post has returned! Now condensed into one post with the ic announcement for convenience of yours truly. Here is the original ooc info post which may or may not one day get an update, and here is a list of training/trainers offered up. Feel free to continue to update either post with new character info! Or ask questions if you have 'em!]]

- [It's the bald man in a suit again. You probably already know what he's going to talk about today. If you don't, then you will next time.]
While we still probably have a few weeks before the next mission, I would once again like to remind everyone that the training gym is always open and sessions underway. Missions can be very hectic and intense if unprepared. I suggest you learn what you can, while you can, and use the facilities as much as possible to prepare for mission dates. Or unexpected excursions as they occur. It has happened that a mission fell out of the typical time period in the past. Train while you can.
To that end, there are several people who teach lessons of various skills from combat to wilderness survival to defensive measures and even magic. Those who have such skills already are welcome to participate in sparring and exercise sessions as well if they have not already done so within the group setting. Or to come teach their own skills to others.
Many trainers and sparring participants are in the gym daily so there's no excuse not to be able to find someone to help you with what you need or prefer to learn. Simply make your way to the training gym whenever possible. My name is Tobias Rieper--you'll find me within the gym most mornings and evenings, and if you need help with anything I'm available.
[That's it, he's done. A second passes and then he logs out. However, he'll be next to the ICP in the training gym for the rest of the day to catch and reply to anyone responding on the ICPs. He's also available to talk to in person while at the training gym, and, as he said, almost every day as well if another time suits someone better.]

- For a basic set-up consider this: the new training gym has all sorts of useful equipment for physical fitness such as mats, soft hand held pads for training with, training dummies, some balancing beams and even a springboard. There are large blocks for making obstacle courses or creating a unique battlefield, and two climbing apparatus next to the wall. Many people are found here daily training, maintaining physical fitness, and teaching others how to handle combat in one fashion or another. Others come and go more sporadically but all are welcome and everyone (typically) shares everything with relative ease. Many of the usual suspects will help accommodate whoever asks for help. Generally, there is just a lot of activity and a busy but fluid schedule around all the equipment and space provided.

[Feel free to respond to 47's announcement over the ICP. Network tags can segue into actiontags if so desired. Or tag me twice for both options if you prefer!]
II. Questions, Daily Exercise Sessions, Training, or Whatever Else
47 be found next to the ICP terminal the day of his announcement over it or near the weapon's cache on any other day. If he's not standing next to it, he's probably going through exercises or training with or without anyone else participating in his brand of it. Or he may be setting up courses with the equipment or working on repairing something overused and broken. He usually does not object to being interrupted between sets or while doing repairs. Bother him.
If you've already asked him to participate in training sessions, then join right in! He focuses on strength and endurance exercises, defensive tactics training, and firearm safety and target practice.
II
It takes actual effort not to start with "sir". This man isn't in any position of authority over them, not really, they know that. It's still hard. "In my last place," they say instead, without preamble, "I used to teach people the very basics. Starting things. How to fall, how to break a hold, how to make time to escape. Is that. Is that something needed here, too?"

Bucky/Soldat | OTA
As time goes on, though, they start occasionally working with others. Any time someone shy or clearly unpracticed comes in, Soldat drifts over, offers to maybe show them the basics. Soldat's preference is people with no skills or very basic skills, who they can teach how to fall and block and break holds, where painful pressure points are so those who aren't trained fighters have a chance to get away from danger. Anyone who knows a little more but wants to learn more about knife or hand-to-hand combat, they're willing to help, and happy to spar with people who ask, but the utterly helpless get first dibs.
They're actually a very good teacher, with lots of experience at it, and endless patience with anyone who actually wants to learn.

Murderbot is mostly here just to see what's going on with the gathering- it heard the broadcast, of course, but there's a difference between it hearing about the training and actually seeing it with its own eyes. Surprise of surprise...Soldat's here.
It doesn't just watch him- it watches everyone. But when Soldat's finished with his current pupil...it finally approaches, clearing its throat a little awkwardly.
"You were a soldier." It's not a question, just...seeking affirmation. Because that's how social things work. Right?

Healer on Duty
Or, maybe, you've convinced her to spar with you. She doesn't spar often, being mostly pacifistic. But she does try to not let her hand-to-hand skills get rusty.

So, uh, I've been told I have some anger management issues. Got any advice for that?

kaiba | ota
Kaiba isn't really the type to charge into combat, is he...? But he's here regardless, dressed in a black undershirt and his cargo pants. He's thin but surprisingly well-muscled for his profession, and from his form it's obvious that he's had some formal martial arts training.
But he lacks the real-world battle experience of many of the other heroes, and that's why he's here. He needs to be strong not just for missions, but to protect himself and those close to him too. As well as a baseline human can, anyway.
"I'm not done! Again."
No matter how many times he's hit, he forces himself back up, panting for breath. He has to endure more, push further.
taking aim
When he's finally hit his limit with bigger movements, he'll go right toward target practice with some darts. With every throw, he takes a deep breath, focusing in his mind on one clear target. No time to rest, he needs to prepare.
"Not close enough...."
Again. And again. He's very close, but he needs to be able to hit perfect in suboptimal conditions. While moving, while the target is moving...he tries all these things as he goes, always pushing further.
taking aim
A hand reaching for his wrist, to correct his hold. Breath in his ear, sweet and spicy (if this train's gonna FEED them like kings, then she'll EAT like one). A self-satisfied purr.
"Perfect your grip first. You'll pick up bad habits...."

Ken's here, despite his desire to be around a lot of people. He's not been going to this much, considering how he fights in general, but he's dragged himself out of bed and into the gym. Today he's got his spear with him - his very real, very sharp spear. He also has a wooden training spear with him, in case someone wants some tips or the other Ken wanders in. He's mostly content to keep to himself unless someone approaches.
It's pretty clear that the eleven year old has some extensive fighting experience - mostly self-taught. He stabs into a dummy, ducking around and approaching it from another angle before planting the butt of his spear and swinging around it to kick the dummy in the back.
Persona [CW: suicidal imagery]
Ken does warn people before he starts practicing with Nemesis. No one wants to hear a sudden gunshot. He's set himself up with two dummies, trying to practice hitting one and not the other more precisely. He lifts his Evoker to his head and pulls the trigger. There's the sound of a gunshot mixed with glass breaking, and a blue fog swirls around him as Nemesis appears. Most of the time it's just shooting lightning at the dummies, but a few times he winces as she takes some of his physical strength to just jam her sawblade into the things.
Which somehow doesn't seem to leave marks. Persona are weird.
Break
He occasionally takes a few minutes to breathe, sitting at the side and watching other people. He's got some water with him, and is usually nibbling a piece of fruit or some crackers if he's feeling a little bit hungry. He's available for people to talk to, though he's not going to go wander up to most people himself.
Break
"Hey there kit, your form was looking good out there!" Keeping an eye on Ken was Important and so she made a point of keeping an eye on him even as she went about her own training, it wouldn't do for him to overexert himself afterall.

Masumi Sera | OTA
Given that she’s only been learning for a few months now, she’s making pretty good progress at using a sword, giving her hope that this will pay off.]
no subject
[Not that Trunks hadn't told his student before. He was proud of her, and glad to see her here. Hopefully she could find some other people to spar with besides him.]
Q'uila | OTA
Youthful hubris was an effective teacher when it came to the proper way to prepare for sparring and training and so Q'uila makes sure to properly warm up before she gets stuck in. The warm up starts fairly conventionally, slow and easy enough for anyone who wanted to join in and Q'uila is more than happy to guide people through it.
"Alright, the main muscle groups should be starting to loosen up. The next stretches can be tricky so do not force yourself, 'twould do you more harm than good."
Training
By the Twelve this was exciting! Although there was less room to train that Q'uila would have liked, the sheer variety of people and combat types to work with presented a series of exciting puzzles to throw herself against. Lazily twirling her lance and shifting the aether running through it between elements.
"Care to join me for some practice?" She beams, "I am more than happy to go magical, martial or a mix of the two!"
Rich Goranski | OTA
When he's alone, he just gets into a regular work out routine. It's perhaps not as intense as it used to be under the SQUIP, but he probably shouldn't wear himself down too quickly. He can be found lifting weights, jumping rope, or just trying out his current self-defense moves on one of the dummies.
When people are around and look like they're willing to give advice, though, Rich immediately will approach them.]
Hey! Are you offering training advice? I'm, uh, kind of desperate.
no subject
[Soldat has kind of been watching sidelong, and hoping they might get asked. Those self-defense moves are sloppy, and they're still not sure Rich knows how to fall properly, but they haven't seen much of him lately and they're... still kinda shy, okay.]
I'm actually pretty good at it.

Thief King Bakura | ota
[ Bakura sat out the red team meeting, preferring to creep on everybody instead. She had debated sitting this one out too, but she's not an idiot. She knows that there is no escaping socializing on this train, little as she cares to.
But she's damn sure she's going to do it on her terms.
Thus: Bakura has erected a freaking booby-trapped labyrinth out of the training gym equipment, and is crouching atop the tallest, farthest portion, the better to stare down anybody unfortunate enough to come take a gander. ]
What's wrong? Climb up! H-hahahahahaaa!!
no subject
It's clear that Casper is pulling his strength for anyone who knows how to look. He's afraid of breaking the training dummies, so he swings at them with the baseball bat at half or so power. It's still some solid hits, the bat leaving some frost for a moment each time it connects.
He's also found practicing some skills that are... less melee-focused, a bow made of ice in his hands. He has six ice arrows and is shooting at one of the archery targets, frowning as they keep missing the target. He could use some help on this one.
Wandering
Casper isn't always working on his own skills. Sometimes he wanders around, ready to help out the less-skilled participants. Whether it's showing them how to throw a punch, how to hit something with a baseball bat like a club, or just offering some sparring practice - he's ready to lend a hand!
Resting
Sometimes he just stands at the side, watching other people while eating a snack that he pulls out of thin air or drinking some water. Now is a good time for chitchat, if you're not the type to banter while fighting.
practicing, lemme know if you want me to change it
"Relax your arm a bit, you don't want it to be locked and tense like that. Like this."
She pulls her own bow up and draws it, showing a more relaxed but firm stance, letting an arrow fly directly into the chest of the dummy.

closed; for adam & tidus
Or maybe not that much of a surprise guest, since Inigo very much took Tidus along on purpose after he discussed his training with Adam with the other guy. Inigo figures Adam can use all the help he can get - especially with it, considering how things usually go, they're very likely to have a mission coming up again real soon. And who knows whether it may be just as fighting-intense as the last one.
So when Adam shows up today, he won't find just Inigo waiting for him in the gym, raising a hand in greeting from across the carriage, but there's his friend right next to him too.
"Hey! I brought Tidus along today to help out."

[ It's a catch-up on their earlier conversation, late in the library, where all the detail don't need to be drudged up. But Della herself admitted to having trouble asking for help, and Tidus wasn't going to forget either that or his promise, making the moves to tell her to come with him to the training gym, his hands empty. ...for now. ]
