It's a hoverboard innit?
Who: Dennis Severs, Lan Sizhui and open to all others!
Where: The gym, laundry
When: Llama 16-21st before the event
What: Just Dennis faffing about with his new hoverboard in the gym trying to learn how to use it, practicing his baby sword skills and doing his Purple chore of laundry.
Warnings: None that I can think of, but if anything comes up during a thread I'll slap a CW in the subject line.
Of Hoverboards and Swords:
For the first handful of days of the second half of the month of Llama, Dennis can be found in the gym most likely falling on his ass over and over trying to figure out how to use the hoverboard he'd politely borrowed from the world they'd been on previously. That or practicing his form with a practice sword. He's getting lessons from Inigo, but he does try to do some stuff on his own. The more he does it the more it'll just be muscle memory and not feel as weird. Much more natural.
Still feels funny holding a sword in his hands, but one day! As for the hoverboard... he's making progress, mostly it's just balance issues at this point. Staying on it while it does it's name sake. Hovers. So someone, anyone, will undoubtedly catch Dennis either landing on his ass for losing his balance and very gracefullydoubtful stumbling off and half tripping on his own feet before catching himself. There's probably a frustrated curse or two in there.
Boy Meets Boy - Laundry Edition: Closed to Lan Sizhui
deferences
He hadn't had a chance to do much laundry before the mission had kicked off earlier in the month so here he was trying to make up for lost chore time. Though it seems someone else has the same idea. As he enters he can hear someone listening to music...? Or wait, playing an instrument even?
Dennis doesn't expect to see Sizhui there, especially not him playing said instrument. It's rather large, but sounds so beautiful. For a moment he just listens, standing there watching as his friend strums his fingers across the strings gently. It's easy to get lost in it really, so much so he's not sure how long he stands there before speaking up.
"S'really pretty." Dennis speaks up, almost feeling bad for interrupting the song Sizhui is playing. If it even is one, maybe he's just freestyling?

'boy meets boy' i'm
It's an actual song Lan Sizhui's playing, a tune he's heard countless times before, yet can't recall ever being named. Perhaps he should give it one? No, it isn't really his place to do so, given it wasn't composed by him... though maybe he could at least have some title he could use when referring to the piece. He's quite lost in his motions, strumming and plucking along, the softest oh! of surprise passing his hips at Dennis's voice, both hands flattening across its strings to silence the guqin.
“Hello, Dennis!” he greets, enthusiastic as ever, cheeks faintly reddened following the compliment. “I'm glad you like it.” Attention flickering from him to the washing machines, Sizhui tilts his head (which in turn causes his cute little rabbit ears to flop), considering, mirth quirking his lips once he redirects. “Have you come to do laundry, too?”
You love it
"Uhh- yeah." He holds up some of his own stuff he's brought down.
"Figured there's probably a lot now that the mission is over." He'll come on over now, finding a washer not being used and tosses his stuff in. Any other clothes around he'll add in until it's full enough. Detergent is added and setting it to wash warm he'll the turn around, leaning back against the washer.
"... what's with the ears? Wearing your jammies?" He figures it's cute pajamas or something.
i do i do
Sizhui's head bobs with affirmation, one hand gently slipping underneath his instrument, the other still splayed across the top as he shuffles aside so Dennis can load up his clothes.
“Mm, yes. It does seem like the best time to do chores.” Once everyone's returned to the train and they're all resettled again. Thank goodness, since Lan Sizhui had grown quite tired of the cyberpunk world pretty quickly after all the murder investigating, illusions, and fight club shenanigans. Another thing he's thankful for? Dennis's questions distract him from those exact things he'd been doing his best to ignore.
Both hands move now, gently setting his guqin aside and revealing— gasp! Sizhui's bare legs crisscrossed underneath where he'd held the spiritual tool. He shifts, stretching them out in front of himself, reaching to adjust the elastic where it settles on his thighs, just a little ways above the knees. “I suppose they could be worn as such, but I'm not sure that's what they are?” Again, he moves, clambers upright then reaches around behind himself to undo one of the straps, letting half of the front of his overalls hang loose. “See,” he remarks, gesturing as he tugs the hoodie's hem out. “It's sort of like our train uniform... except it has cute rabbit ears.” And a tail, but he's not going to turn around and show Dennis that with half his outfit undone!

"Looks comfy, but ain't sure that's anything like what I'm wearing." Cause Dennis is boring and usually just wears the train uniform. He is now and besides the hoodie part. Uh...
"You're right about the ears though." He smiles, reaches over to tug on one. While it's not something he'd figure a boy would wear, if Sizhui is comfortable then who cares?
"Your legs aren't cold?" It looks fluffy and warm, but with so much leg showing Sizhui isn't chilly?
no subject
It is laundry day too, after all, and the best garment he could've worn underneath these – what are they called again? Oh, right! – ‘shorts’ happens to be in the washing machine. Also, Dennis can gawk, even if just for a short moment because Sizhui'd done the same back on cyberpunk planet inside the aforementioned room with his friend and that fishnet shirt. Remembering makes his own attention divert toward some nearby drying lines despite the urge to let his gaze linger; he's seen their train uniforms hundreds of times now, there isn't any reason for staring.
Thank goodness, Dennis's little ear tug has him upturning again, eyes widened and his mouth hanging open with feigned shock. How dare he! And while Sizhui's pouting at first, he can't hold it long, too amused by the gesture and mildly curious about his friend's question, until he's reminded that Dennis isn't aware of his odd quirk. Honestly, what reason is there for him to know? Lower than normal body temperature doesn't come up too often in conversation.
He shakes his head, “No, they are fine. It takes more than this for me to start feeling cold since I'm so used to that.”
no subject
Gasp!
Lest he think of any of this. Sizhui's cute little pout does distract him from such terrible, lewd thoughts, so there's that.
"Mm? Run hot then, huh?" It's hard to not tug on the bunny ears again, but he manages, "Or just cold where you're from?"
no subject
Lucky for them both, he doesn't have to explain how undergarments work back on his homeworld yet.
Also, as ridiculous as it may seem, Dennis is more than welcome to tug again, Sizhui's not gonna complain. (Better than trying to pull his tail, after all!) “Just cold,” he confirms. “I think I almost prefer it that way? Most times, I even let my sister's spirit beast sleep on my side of the bed so it stays cool.”
no subject
"Everyone's a little different. Like it cooler myself too." Who likes sweating? The heat can bugger off. He deals enough with it for his job after all.
"Spirit beast? Sounds magical." Sounds cool as fuck actually.
no subject
“Being overly hot is just too much,” he sighs emphatically, raising an arm to his forehead in mock dramatics. His friend's far stronger than himself since he'd much prefer just avoiding fire altogether!
“Xixue's a six-tailed fox and is definitely magical!” She's also ‘cool as fuck,’ both in the literal and metaphorical sense. “Would you like to meet her?”
no subject
"Meet her. Really? Fuck, yeah I mean if it's okay with your sister?" He should meet her too at some point. It's not the first time Sizhui has mentioned her.
no subject
“Really,” Sizhui confirms with a nod, “and A-Qing won't mind at all, I assure you.” There's a name Dennis can look for now! He glances toward the washing machine holding the clothes he'd loaded in a little bit ago, narrows his eyes then straightens, beaming outright. They have at least fifteen minutes, more than enough time to go see Xixue then hightail it back before the laundry finishes.
First, he removes his qiankun pouch, sweeps it over his guqin, storing it again in a pop of brilliant blue light. Once it's back in his pocket, one hand finds Dennis's wrist and the other gestures while he tugs. “Come with me.” And here's hoping Dennis follows because he's leading them away.
no subject
His attention is stolen by Sizhui casually puting his instrument away in a bag much too small for it. So fucking cool. Then Sizhui is leading him away, hand at his wrist. So
"That's so wic-" Wait. Wait a damn second. Dennis blinks, then squints. Is that...?
"Nice tail, Sizhui." Excuse the grin, but he's not sure if this is ridiculous or cute. Maybe both.
"You're just missing whiskers." He's gotta tease him a little.

"Dennis? What is that thing?"
no subject
"Hoverboard. Got it from that place we were at before." Even though he's annoyed he'll look over at Sizhui and offer a little smile in greeting.
"Don't got these where I'm from or at least not real working ones." Okay okay. Gonna try this again... stepping on it and putting his feet in the right place it'll activate and after a second it lifts up, hovering off the ground. Dennis' arms come up as he tries to keep his balance.
"This part ain't so hard, just staying on it when it moves is."
Hoverboard Time
Conan stops on his way through the gym to practice soccer, and eyes the hoverboard in a professional manner.
"Try lowering your center of gravity. You need to keep it lower for a turn like that."
no subject
Dennis you're only 19 please."Huh?" Oh uh, well he guesses that made sense. "So like, bend down a little?"
no subject
"More like a crouch. You need to be able to react and shift your weight quickly if any obstacles show up."
He was also very bad at remembering to pretend to be a normal first grader, rather then the newly eighteen-year-old he actually was.
no subject
"Sounds like if I knew how to skateboard I'd be all set." Dennis tries to joke a little, "You good at this sorta thing?" He motions to the hoverboard. Like look, Conan just looks like some little kid, but if he knows how to, he's all for letting him jump on and show him the ropes.
no subject
"Can you wait a minute or so? I'll be able to show you better on my board, but I'd have to get it."
no subject
"Huh? Oh uh, yeah sure." If the kid's offering he won't say no. "I'll try practicing what you told me, maybe I'll finally be able to stand on this thing while it moves for more than a handful of seconds."
no subject
And a few minutes later Conan is back with a child-sized skateboard tucked under one arm.
no subject
"Got some nice wheels, mate. You been riding for a while?" Show him your moves! Wow the crowd!
no subject
"Mmm!" He says brightly. "I have lots of practice." He drops the board on the ground and jumps aboard. Pressing down with his heel to start the engine, Conan aims the board straight at the wall, the crouches down to turn the board in a sharp turn barely inches before he hit it. He repeats the maneuver at the other end of the car, then turns the board back towards the center and throws his weight to one side as he skids to a halt.
no subject
Dennis watches quite impressed at how well Conan handles his board. He wouldn't dare doing that yet. Unless he wanted a concussion.
"Guess you do." He sounds pleasantly surprised, smiling.
"I think I see what you mean about that center of gravity stuff now. Just gotta put it into practice." Dennis steps onto his own board now, activating it. Already he's a bit wobbly, arms out, his biggest problem is probably that he's got no confidence in his ability to use the dang thing.
"Okay alright, so we're just gonna-" He does manage to stay up right, following the advice Conan's given and actually completes a turn, even if he's not going fast at all. Baby steps.
"Haha, guess you know what you're talking about after all, Board Master." Dennis quips playfully, before stumbling off his board. Whoops. Okay so not a smooth landing, but it's progress.
no subject
Conan watches Dennis, considering.
"Have you tried taking it faster? It may make it easier to keep your balance on turns."
