A New Platform [Intro Post September]
On the Train
"Good morning Voidtreckers, it is day one of the month of Nebula. Points have been updated on the system."
With points updated, everyone can spend the morning shopping. Most people will be expecting the second announcement that comes a few hours later.
"Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one." A lurch and a jolt and the windows fill with the fog that means they are at a platform.
The doors open. As usual, those who leave first notice nothing, walking silently, rucksacks on their backs, towards the barriers. A-Qing, Atem, Beauregard Lionett, Casper LeBlanc Jr, Donatello Versus, Frankie Bacon, Ichiban Kasuga, Kumoko, Lena Sabrewing, Mami Tomoe, Mono, Peter Parker, Reno, Shi Qingxuan, Tobari, Wen Ning; all pass across the platform, not looking back. And then they're gone, disappeared through the barriers and into the fog beyond.
But on the platform itself there are new faces. Wearing hoodies in all four colours, in various states of confusion.
For New Passengers
At first all they can see is steam billowing around them as they come to their senses. As their eyes adjust, they find themselves on a platform. The platform is open to a bright blue sky, speckled with a couple of clouds. It's very warm, enough that they will not want to stay in those hoodies for long. Behind them through the fogs is a set of barriers, set in a brick wall and in front of them is a single set of tracks extending both ways into that same thick fog.
They are standing, in clothes that are not their own and a style they might not even recognise. They are carrying a rucksack on their back. For a moment it seems to just be them, alone on the foggy, blistering hot platform; then the fog begins to fade and they realise they aren’t alone.
The platform isn't large, but it is enough to hold the figures scattered around, all facing the tracks, all dressed in cargo trousers and hoodies. Then there is a roaring sound and out of the fog arrives a train. Jet black with gold writing on the side. The Voidtrecker Express. There is a hiss as the doors slide open and out pours a strange assortment of people, over a hundred at least. Some are human, some are less so. Most are wearing the same hoodie in one of the four colours, red, orange, blue and purple, though some are sporting different clothes in a variety of styles.
Behind them, the doors close, and the train is cloaked in the same fog that hides the world beyond the platform.
The Train
After a short time, perhaps ten minutes or so, the fog clears and the doors hiss open again. Those from the train may encourage those on the platform to board. It’s not like there's anywhere else to go and even if there was, you feel a pull. A need to board, a feeling that staying on the platform would lead to something terrible. If that is not enough, there are plenty of people on the platform now, to encourage them onto the train.
Each ICP shows the same message and next to the screens there are stacks of leaflets written by those on the train, with further information (see
'Publications'). They will also find a bunch of posters around the train and might notice the new clock in the standard coach.
The store rooms have been restocked with fresh ingredients, the ingredient this month is a strange meat, yaddon tail.
For passengers that have bought items, these are also scattered around the luggage carriage in various suitcases and bags. There is a box labelled for purple team containing a stick of rock for each member of purple team, including those who are new. Join in your teams success!
New passengers will find their ticket allows them into their cabins. In most rooms, the occupied beds are obvious, leaving the spotless, empty spaces for the newcomers. Room is tight but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches full of spare blankets and pillows.
Departure
A second horn sounds to encourage any stragglers taking advantage of the fresh air, and the doors slide shut. Veteran passengers know what will happen next, but they may wish to brief their new companions.
The train sets off, the fog obscuring the view again as it picks up speed.
"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express." A female-coded artificial sounding voice echoes throughout the train. "Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."
The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog-filled sky.
"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated. Entry into Voidspace in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."
A shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding. As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady itself. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever-changing colours.
Welcome to the Void!

Welcome to the Void!
exploration; armoury
Tidus sees the young man wandering the armoury, catching him just as he's entered himself. A guy in a purple hoodie, and Tidus has his tied around his waist, but otherwise wears a black shirt and some knee-length pants.
He'll raise a hand in greeting to the figure, should he look his way.
no subject
"Have... you been here a long time?"
no subject
"Yup, way too long. You just looking around? You...look like you should get some rest, maybe a nap or something first." He spreads his hands a little, palms open, a friendly gesture to go with the suggestion.
"If you want to. We have quiet rooms, if you don't want to go in your room. Not the comfiest, but - neither are the beds."
no subject
At least it put him in clothes.
"I'm Ryu. What's your name?"
no subject
no subject
no subject
"I'll show you how this works, if you ever wanna get around quick." He gives the top of the device a few pats. "We can sit down in the games room, get to chatting."
Sit on the floor, but the floor's still a seat.
no subject
no subject
"See this? And the names?" SLEEP4, SLEEP1, LUGGAGE. "These show where they go. So if we go back-"
Back through those names, until they get to 'GAMES'.
"-this is where we wanna go. Pick the place, and-"
He presses a button, and the centre flairs up with life in blues, widening some to allow them to step through. He looks over to Ryu, waves up a hand.
"Now you just go right through!"
And right through Tidus does, cube-like shapes and the blue hue taking over his body as he passes over. Shapes and colour that will cover Ryu the same, during and after he walks in and finds himself inside the games carriage. Give it a moment, it'll leave soon. Tidus will be standing, waiting for him on the other side.
"Welcome to fast travel," he jokes, before going over to one of the low-ground tables.
no subject
... Huh. How does he know that? He shakes his head and sighs, sitting patiently with his bag in his hands. There's a sword hilt poking out from the top of the bag.
no subject
"Okay." Okay- but also, he's going to be leaning towards the cupboard to swing open the door. "We get brought here by the train - or whatever you wanna imagine's controlling the train - 'cause it wants people to be heroes to save other worlds. And likely, to save its old crew that went missing who-knows how long ago."
He's shifting his weight, not quite so equal to where Ryu's sitting, as he shuffles to look at the board games inside. Hmmm. Cards? Nah. Let's see...
"So we get brought here, put into a team, and the train wants us to do those missions when they find them. The missions are, we go somewhere like a planet, a place, and we help them out, fix whatever's happening, and then we're stuffed back on the train."
--aha! Tidus takes the game he's found, sitting one of Connect Four onto the table. Will say something about it in a moment, but he turns back to Ryu.
"While you're here? Whatever was going on back home's still going on. You don't get to leave until the train...loses you, and sends you back. If it does." If it does. A chance he's never really spoken about before, but there must be something in his mood that doesn't want to entirely ease the situation.
Even if he looks at the box, adds with a lighter note: "So I guess if there's a reason you don't want to go back, it's a lucky sit' to end up in."
no subject
"I... like helping people, but I - I have to get home. There's someone I'm looking for... I'm afraid of what he'll do if I don't get to him. I -" He puts a hand to the side of his face. "... I can't feel him pulling as hard as I could before."
He closes his eyes, lowering his head. It feels... empty and sad. He's not sure what to do with that feeling...
no subject
"Everyone leaves, eventually. You just...don't get a choice," he says with sympathy, then gestures over to Ryu's person. "You're on purple, like me." He raises his hand with the SCA on his wrist, the purple strap. "Red, Blue, Purple, Orange. That's all the teams. It doesn't matter though - go with whoever you want to when the mission comes. You'll know more about them on the day."
Because he can tell this guy all about the missions, but he sure can't help him with getting off the train.
no subject
He opens his eyes and looks at Tidus, sadness still pulling at his features... but most of it pushed away. He can deal with it later, maybe.
no subject
"Fighting, searching what's causing problems, dealing with it - they're different kinds of worlds, but that's always the gist of it. ...and, look," he says after a beat, a sigh, brow furrowing and a hand coming behind his neck.
"I'm sorry this is happening. You had something important to do back home - that's the story for a lot of people. I'd help you get home if I could, but we have no clue how to get away. You just have to hope you don't end up sticking around here too long."
no subject
"... It's the only home I remember. I... I only woke up a few months ago. I don't know anything other than where I've seen or heard about..."
no subject
"Amnesia? -- Does anyone else recognise you?"
no subject
It shouldn't though, right? Ugh... he's still trying to figure out how he feels on it.
no subject
...is. Somewhere. Two halves? Tidus is actually thinking now about this, and getting a stitched brow trying to. Nearly not asking, but bringing his hands close together:
"Can whoever summoned you...stick you back together?"
Is That A Thing.
no subject
Plenty of time to gain power. He looks down at his hands. "... I don't want to go away. I like being in the world - not as a god but just as a person."
no subject
He gestures to the room with a hand. "It's not home, but... think of it like a break! People summoning or making contact with someone back from home... really doesn't go well. My friend's got a link to this dragon! A god, too? But it's just...quiet. He can't get through to her either."
So, at least that made Ryu safe? ...maybe?
no subject
"Though if things like that can't get through... hm. ... I don't known if it's safe to transform or not." He looks around at the car. "Probably not in here... I don't want to break things by accident."
no subject
Tidus blinks, lost, waiting for an explanation or...something. Would transforming do something...?
no subject
"... The last time I did before here I called on something I hadn't before... and I... couldn't control myself. But I don't know if even the form I usually take will be safe."
no subject
"If you go through there, you'll end up in the medic carriage, then the one after's a gym. It's got the biggest open space if you want to give it a go."
