A New Platform [Intro Post September]

On the Train

"Good morning Voidtreckers, it is day one of the month of Nebula. Points have been updated on the system."

With points updated, everyone can spend the morning shopping. Most people will be expecting the second announcement that comes a few hours later.

"Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one." A lurch and a jolt and the windows fill with the fog that means they are at a platform.

The doors open. As usual, those who leave first notice nothing, walking silently, rucksacks on their backs, towards the barriers. A-Qing, Atem, Beauregard Lionett, Casper LeBlanc Jr, Donatello Versus, Frankie Bacon, Ichiban Kasuga, Kumoko, Lena Sabrewing, Mami Tomoe, Mono, Peter Parker, Reno, Shi Qingxuan, Tobari, Wen Ning; all pass across the platform, not looking back. And then they're gone, disappeared through the barriers and into the fog beyond.

But on the platform itself there are new faces. Wearing hoodies in all four colours, in various states of confusion.

For New Passengers

At first all they can see is steam billowing around them as they come to their senses. As their eyes adjust, they find themselves on a platform. The platform is open to a bright blue sky, speckled with a couple of clouds. It's very warm, enough that they will not want to stay in those hoodies for long. Behind them through the fogs is a set of barriers, set in a brick wall and in front of them is a single set of tracks extending both ways into that same thick fog.

They are standing, in clothes that are not their own and a style they might not even recognise. They are carrying a rucksack on their back. For a moment it seems to just be them, alone on the foggy, blistering hot platform; then the fog begins to fade and they realise they aren’t alone.

The platform isn't large, but it is enough to hold the figures scattered around, all facing the tracks, all dressed in cargo trousers and hoodies. Then there is a roaring sound and out of the fog arrives a train. Jet black with gold writing on the side. The Voidtrecker Express. There is a hiss as the doors slide open and out pours a strange assortment of people, over a hundred at least. Some are human, some are less so. Most are wearing the same hoodie in one of the four colours, red, orange, blue and purple, though some are sporting different clothes in a variety of styles.

Behind them, the doors close, and the train is cloaked in the same fog that hides the world beyond the platform.

The Train

After a short time, perhaps ten minutes or so, the fog clears and the doors hiss open again. Those from the train may encourage those on the platform to board. It’s not like there's anywhere else to go and even if there was, you feel a pull. A need to board, a feeling that staying on the platform would lead to something terrible. If that is not enough, there are plenty of people on the platform now, to encourage them onto the train.

Each ICP shows the same message and next to the screens there are stacks of leaflets written by those on the train, with further information (see
'Publications'). They will also find a bunch of posters around the train and might notice the new clock in the standard coach.

The store rooms have been restocked with fresh ingredients, the ingredient this month is a strange meat, yaddon tail.

For passengers that have bought items, these are also scattered around the luggage carriage in various suitcases and bags. There is a box labelled for purple team containing a stick of rock for each member of purple team, including those who are new. Join in your teams success!

New passengers will find their ticket allows them into their cabins. In most rooms, the occupied beds are obvious, leaving the spotless, empty spaces for the newcomers. Room is tight but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches full of spare blankets and pillows.

Departure

A second horn sounds to encourage any stragglers taking advantage of the fresh air, and the doors slide shut. Veteran passengers know what will happen next, but they may wish to brief their new companions.

The train sets off, the fog obscuring the view again as it picks up speed.

"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express." A female-coded artificial sounding voice echoes throughout the train. "Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."

The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog-filled sky.

"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated. Entry into Voidspace in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."

A shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding. As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady itself. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever-changing colours.

Welcome to the Void!

"Oh please. As if I wouldn't tell you." Bulma laughs lightly, waving a hand as if dismissing that. She gets it, though perhaps not in the way that Yondu fully intends. But it still.. well. She feels the need to let him know that she understands, but would have checked him if needed.

She hums as she considers the small-scale scanner idea. It's pretty brilliant if she's honest - a good way to know if anything had any parts that may be useful for them without first spending the time to pull it apart.

"That's a great idea. Good time saver. I'll start some drafting for it just so we at least have a rough idea, if that sounds good?"

He does appreciate that she'd be straight-forward with him, though. Even if, considering her nature and his general knowledge of Vegeta's tastes, that's almost a given. She's not the one to be indirect unless she's playing poker. Then she's tits out and money down, he guesses. Not a bad way to be.

"Yeah, just somethin' little-ish. Not somethin' that can do a whole room. Maybe somethin' the size of a door at most. I need to be able to do some lock-pickin'. But I come second. Kitty needs her thing first."

Just a little memento to remember her boy by.

"Gotcha. I'll give you previews as I go through it." Of course, the hard part would always be finding the proper parts to make what she wants, or at least the proper alternatives to what she knows she wants, in the end. It wouldn't be her first scanner to see inside of things. At any rate, that's less important than Kitty's things, and Bulma nods.

"Actually.. I could probably send him a message now..." Which she's going to set to work on, a quick text to at least ask him something simple wouldn't hurt her.

"I don't know if they kept anything but I'm sure if he did he won't hesitate to give them to her."

"Thanks, I appreciate it." He nudges Bulma with his elbow. "An' when you get done riggin' up your troll doll's armor you let me see it so he can show it off. I wanna see what y'all do with it."

One small favor his universe can give them: armor at the push of a button. Though he would have happily given it without asking for anything in return.

"Maybe I'll tell 'im to do a little spin or somethin' so I can see the whole thing." He's not actually gonna do it, but he can at least see if he can coax a laugh out of Bulma with the idea.

Bulma can't help but laugh as Yondu refers to Vegeta as a 'troll doll.' To be fair, she does as well, but it's the aptest comparison that she can find, despite how much she truly loves Vegeta's stand-up hair. Of course, she nods in agreement to Yondu's terms, happy enough to deliver that if that is his request.

"I'll let you know what we come up with. I'm sure he'll love to show off as well."

A man can't help his hair afflictions whether it's hair too excited to lay down or just a general lack of it, and one of Yondu's favorite possessions was a troll doll that Peter Quill gave him (even if he only owned it all of three months before his demise). As mentioned, he'd get it if she'd said it.

"Y'know, I had to pretend to not care about my boy in front of my crew for fear of lookin' soft for so long that I never realized how good it was to be around people that just casually gave a damn about their families. And heaven help someone if they was dumbass enough to take y'all as weak. I like seein' it."

Then again he didn't exactly have the best background for familial affection. But that's a similarity he and Vegeta had come across in discussion already, and Vegeta sure as shit got past it.

"Vegeta... was like that, at first. He didn't really want much to do with Trunks and I mostly raised him while he was a little baby." But then again, Vegeta had been a very different person back then, too. She hadn't intended to get pregnant or have a family with Vegeta, to be fair, and he'd reacted just about as she had expected when he'd found out. "But things changed, obviously. Between Cell and Buu it clicked I guess in that hard ass head."

Clicked enough that he had agreed to have another child, and then had ended up with Bulla, who now had her father wrapped around her little Bulma-clone finger. She loves to see it, personally, as Vegeta had somehow reformed into the father of the year.

"It was a disaster at first but, I mean. Obviously, it ended up working out." She laughs a little at the thought. "I wouldn't have gotten Bulla if Vegeta wasn't feeling more like a family man. And heaven help anyone that so much as makes that baby cry."

She pauses, and then, quietly, almost as if horrified : "He's going to have an aneurism if she's anything like me as a teen.. ah.."

"I had to be rough as hell with Peter. In fact the whole reason I lost my crew was they figured out I was soft on Peter."

He mentions that he was a Ravager all the time. He's scant on the fact that, towards the end, he didn't have a crew beyond his former first mate. Only a few people he's brought it up to. But it's relevant at the moment, that he was never in an environment where he could be a loving father figure without risking his or Peter Quill's life.

Not until his last moments did he get to say something worthwhile to him.

"I would say that I don't think Vegeta would have but... thinking back to Raditz I can't be so sure.." After all, what kind of brother tries to kidnap his nephew because he's a naturally strong child? Sure, Gohan was talented, but in the grand scheme of things.. kind of a very yikes move.

Still, it's probably not worth it to linger on the what if - all of those saiyans had been dead for a long time, so not worth it to sit and think about.

"We've met Vegeta's brother, but.. Tarble is different from other saiyans, so he's not a good scale I don't think."

"He told me a bit about them other Saiyans but not- Is that man's for real name Tarble? The idiot what caused a mutiny in my crew was named Taserface. Tarble is around that on the color wheel. Now, sounds like you're gonna tell me some kinda good thing about him, but... Okay, I gotta say it, that's a terrible name."

And with his accent, the word 'terrible' does lean more towards 'tarble'. It is indeed a tragedy.
