Tickets Please
"Good Morning Passengers, today is day twenty five of the month of Bassoon." Waking up in their beds as always to the announcement passengers will feel a little strange. The hairs on the back of their necks are standing up. If they have any kind of danger sense it is going haywire. They have a moment before a second announcement shines some light on the strange feeling.
"Attention passengers, we have been boarded by inspectors. Please may all passengers have tickets and passes ready for inspection. Please try and stay calm." Calm may be harder for some than others. The feeling can be rationalised, it is similar to the air of expectation at the start of a horror film, or a scary ride. However rationalisation might not last that long as when characters try to leave their cabins they will find the doors are locked. They are trapped.
If anyone has lingered in the gaps between carriages for any length of time they will have no doubt heard the strange sound that can be heard sometimes, almost like faint choral singing. Now it can be heard in the carriages itself. Still faint, but if they are quiet they can hear it in the distance. Almost a cross between singing and crying. Sometimes loud, sometimes barely a murmur but ever present.
The feeling of danger intensifies, heavy footsteps sound outside in the corridors and a heavy breathing, as if coming from a mask. The footsteps move towards the first cabin of the first sleeper carriage and the door slides open...

It was a bad feeling, a bit like being near an ayakashi that wanted to make you feel bad and ruin your day. But also a bit different. He shuffled to the edge of the bed. "What's going on?"
The voice had said to have tickets ready so he found his, it was in his hoodie pocket from before he had changed into his pyjamas. The voice had also said to stay calm so he did his best to keep his spirits up! He was sure it would be alright!
Existential dread is my preferred alarm clock.
"What was that, Sunshine?" He rolled over to look at the kid, pulling his mask from under his pillow to pull it on. "What'd the announcement just say?" Something something try to stay calm? That was a good way to make people really remain not calm.

It was tricky to stay calm when it felt so scary, but Romeo was doing his best and he was sure mister Wade would too! "I don't know what a ticket inspector is though? Why do we need to stay calm?"
Staying calm was good, but why would the train voice think they wouldn't.

"They're just gonna look at our tickets and then ff- leave. I'm sure it will be just fine."

"Hopefully they don't keep us waiting for too long. I got plans to sleep until noon after this."
no subject
He had his ticket now so he started tidying up his things and folding them to put them back in the cubby.
"Are you still really tired mister Wade?" It was morning time, Romeo was wide awake!
no subject
"Part of growing up is getting to sleep alot, the best part, some would say. The boring ones."
no subject
He grins and brings his knees up to his chest as he watched Wade. Sleep was nice when you were very tired but he wouldn't want to do it all the time!
"I think it would be boring to sleep all the time. So it's good that I'll be a kid forever!"
no subject
"You're going to be a kid forever? Like the creepy old ginger kid?" At least Sunshine wasn't hella creepy like the other one who sounded like Charles Dickens may have thrown up on him.
"Lucky you though, endless energy and kid powers."
no subject
"I was a grown up once! For one day. It was really strange. I just grew and was big and grown up and I was like that for a whole day and then I shrunk back to me size again!"
no subject
"You know, that sounds like the plot of a movie. Did you play on a giant piano?"

Inspector (All cabin mates respond as one thread please)
They step in. Their presence makes the room feel smaller. The door begins to slide shut.
no subject
So it would be fine. He sat watching, the figures were scary as they stepped in but he just sat still. As long as he was good they wouldn't hurt him, right?
no subject
"Hey there tall, dark, and Vader-y. How's it hangin'? What's with the masks? We don't have the plague do we? Or is that just your face? Are you my mummy?" He dragged himself back into his bunk properly to laugh at his own joke.
no subject
One had their eyes trained on Wade, as if deciding that if there were to be trouble in this room it was coming from that direction.
no subject
He didn't understand anything that Wade said when the inspectors came in but he hopped off his bed, ticket in hand.
These inspectors were scary but they just wanted to check their tickets. He walked up to one with a polite, if scared, smile. "Here you go, inspector." He held out his ticket.
no subject
“Oh man, where did I put that? You know I usually just follow someone in. Can’t remember the last time I saw that thing.” He started, leaning over the edge of his bunk to contort around and start digging in the pile of his things on the only empty bunk below. There was a slight tension across his shoulders as Romeo approached the creeps, ready to strike, just in case anything happened.
“I mean, we were snatched up by this train, right? So how would we be here without a ticket? Why bother inspecting, not like someone could stow away here or something, right?” he continued rambling still rooting around in his things. That damn lanyard he stuffed the ticket in had to be in there somewhere.
no subject
The second inspector had moved over to Wade. "Those without tickets must step off the train with us." They warned as they watched him scramble around for his ticket.
no subject
He scrambled over to Wade's bed, to help look. That ticket had to be somewhere! Mister Wade's things were all a mess but Romeo had thought it would be rude to tidy them and now he was wishing he had because then they would know where the ticket was!
"Don't worry! We will find it!" And in a quieter voice. "I won't let them take you away sir!"
no subject
"Thanks, Sunshine, but if we can't find it, don't get between them and me, yeah?" He tried, hoping he wouldn't be responsible for the kid getting hurt.
He looked back at the inspectors. "So, while we're all here and you studs are waiting so patiently and all up in my bidness, what's going on? You got names? I can make some up for you, if you want?"
no subject
"This is an inspection of the void transport known as the Voidtrecker Express. All transport moving through void space are subject to inspections under inter dimensional law, notably sections seventy two and six hundred and three. You should be searching for your ticket."
no subject
But hopefully that wouldn't happen. Hopefully they would find that ticket. He continued searching through Wade's things, checking all the pockets.
no subject
Oh.
Whoops.
Sheepishly he pulled his ticket from where it was stuffed in his pocket. "This what you're after, then?" He asked, handing it over.
