Healer/Medic Meeting [Open]
Who: Ryo and anyone who wants to join
Where: Music carriage, upper floor
When: Poi 16, Evening
What: A meeting for healers, medics, and anyone who'd like to become one.
Warnings: Possibly some discussion of medical things?
[About an hour after Kabuto's initial inquiry, the ICPs flicker back on, this time with Ryo.]
There will be a meeting for healers and medics tonight after dinner in the upper floor of the music carriage. It will help us all if we know what everyone else is capable of, and Tidus has agreed to go over the various healing items we have on board, since we should also know what they are and how they work. If you're a healer or a medic, please come; if you'd like to have medical training or learn how healing items work, please come; and if you donated a healing item, please either come to the meeting or give Tidus or me a detailed explanation of how it works if we don't already have one. I'll make another announcement when we're ready to start so no one misses it.
[There's a beat, and a bit of a lopsided smile.]
And...I'll try to have snacks.
[Because people like snacks, right?]
~~~
True to his word, Ryo gets back on the ICPs before the meeting starts with a reminder. There's a table set up on stage, with a number of healing items set up on it; there's another table at the door, with three sheets of paper, labeled Medic, Training, and Items, respectively. (There's another, smaller table, with snacks Ryo was able to find - namely cookies, bread, and greenhouse-grown fruit, along with water and coffee. There's an effort there, but it's obviously not the focus.) Ryo stands on the stage, visibly nervous and visibly trying not to be, and waits for people to arrive before starting.
"Thank you all for coming. The idea tonight is to get to know each other - who we are, how we heal, and what we're capable of - and hopefully figure out how to do even team coverage on missions, including covering the triage car if things go badly and we wind up fighting another corrupted life god." It's supposed to be a joke, and gods he hopes it lands. "There's a table in the back with papers on it. If you have medical training and are willing to teach others, please sign the Medic paper; if you want medical training, please sign the Training paper; and if you want to learn more about healing items, please sign the Items paper. Thank you."
That's about all he has, and he looks a bit uncertainly at everyone else in the room. "Would anyone like to start?"
[OOC: Make your own toplevels, mingle, and generally get to know each other! This is open to everyone, so non-healer/medic characters can also come if they want to learn, or just partake of the snacks.]
[Kyoko grabs one of the provided snacks and takes a bite out of it.]
I'll admit, I'm mostly just here for the food.
[He should... explain to people who don't know.]
It's a part of myself that I summon to fight. I have to use something to summon her, so it looks like I'm shooting myself but I'm not. ... No, I don't know why it works like kkthat.
[Anyway.]
I want to learn proper first aid. I got hurt in the last mission and if I knew first aid I might have been better off.
It's a wariness that he carries sometimes. He signs his name as a medic and finds a wall to lean against to observe, at first, but inevitably he will introduce himself again. ]
I'm Senku. You might've seen me in medical, as I spend a decent enough time there just in case it's required. I'm a doctor in my world. I manage a village full of patients, approximately a hundred and fifty people or so. I'm proficient in modern medicine as well as traditional Eastern medicines, including a variety of natural remedies as well as pharmacological solutions. I can go as far as performing general surgery, and am particularly helpful with emergency medicine, as well as ongoing care. Specialization wasn't required for me because I am the only doctor.
[ He probably looks about twenty, but he's got more training and experience than an ordinary twenty year old. ]
Since my arrival on the train roughly ten months ago, I've become proficient in a healing spell to the degree that it can deal with severe injuries, just not death, which means magical healing is an option with me. If you're sick, over injured, I'm also probably one of the better candidates to find to assist you.
[ He sighs. ]
Honestly, if you want to be on call and be a paramedic in the field, the most ideal solution is to join the white team. You are not chained to it, you are not required to be somewhere specific at all times, but you are simply on call during the mission. That is the current organized structure that everyone agreed to because it didn't interfere with the healers autonomy.
Being on call is not for everyone, honestly. I don't personally see the issue between having people where they are since we are teleported to the caller's side.
[ His stance relaxes a little bit, he tilts his head slightly. ]
I'm willing to teach people to a point. I think a crash course in first aid is not amiss for those interested, especially in mundane medicine where it could buy time for a magical healer to arrive. I don't think you want inexperienced people getting into medical procedures though. [ This might seem out of the blue, but that was a point of conversation the last time this discussion was had, and his opinion hasn't changed. ]
Every team usually has a healer though, or someone that can heal - even the supplies can be good enough to keep them stable to take them back. [ There's a pause. ] But, uh... as an idea, it'd be handy if we could take the transgates for missions and set them up between the different teams and the camps they set up. They fit in the arms bands, and every team should have one? So even if the team lead keeps a hold of them, or whoever they trust with supplies--
If we could get anything that can help people move around, though... or if there's people willing to study the tech, and maybe make something we can use to move people around easier, without knowing a spell - I'm willing to throw points towards that.
[ Maybe not the time or place for it, but! An idea! ]
cw: brief ancient Greek myth ref involving Tantalus and his son
[ He holds up the arm that carries the technology from Lightning's world ]
--which allows me to use healing spells. I usually have some other items which can heal as well.
[ Defying death is an ability only granted/possible with a certain someone. ]
I'm also my world's Death Incarnate, the God of Death. If that is of issue, I will stay away.
[ Despite so much evidence to the contrary on this train, Thanatos still expects he'll be unwelcome. Mort squeaks and displays the little pouch he wears. Possibly to distract Thanatos from his own insecurities. ]
And this is Mort. He has a few senzu beans with him for emergencies.
I purchased two new items from home: Chimaera Jerky and Cyclopes Jerky. They'll be able to temporarily increase your physical or magical attacks. Unfortunately, those who only eat vegetables will not be able to use this. I'm... not entirely sure what they're made of, but it's a type of meat.
[ The gods aren't like Tantalus, who cooked and served his son as a meal. So, despite cyclopes (and Chimaera?) being man-eaters, this is most certainly not what they'd prefer. (It's probably from cattle, sheep, or other herd animal.) ]
Please make use of them on missions and let me know if more needs to be purchased.
I heard mention of senzu beans a few times now. ( Said only once he was out of the spotlight so she wasn't bombarding him with questions in front of everyone. Because who knew how long she could go on and how off track things could get if he cared to indulge her. ) What precisely are the effects of — ingesting them, I assume?
healing mission supplies, manadrives; how do
Agreeing to help a friend's easy; he'll do it without a second thought, would probably do this again if asked. But standing in the room with the selection of supplies beside him on the table, he's trying not to think too hard about how he doesn't belong in a meeting for healers.
But, well -- here he is!!! And when there's a time for him to speak up, he will, shuffling on the spot, but- ]
Hi, Tidus here! [ Sheepish, he holds up a hand in greeting to the rest of the room. (wow, great start!!) ] I'm not really a medic - I mean, I know healing magic, and a bit of first aid? I guess I'm alright if you need a heal in the middle of a fight. But uh- Iii'm mainly here for the healing supplies.
[ He gestures to the table next to him. There's also a few other shield-shaped items. ]
I'm gonna be upfront that I don't know how many of these work, but a bunch are from where I'm from, and there's other kinds in case they don't work for people. Variety, y'know? ... a-anyway. [ Anyway.
He puts a hand above a selection of bottles. ] These are our magic potions. Webs - or, Spider - makes the basic healing, this green one. [ He turns the bottle. ] You can drink it or pour it over the wound. It's good for not-too-deep cuts and some light roughing up.
Then- we have these. [ He brings forward a pinkish-purple bottle, then an orange one. ] We call the pink one an x-potion where I'm from, and this orange one's called an elixir. X-Potions are quick working, will heal anything real deep, but you might still be lightheaded after it. Elixir? These'll heal you even if you're bleeding out - I know that's been a worry before, but the potions help recover you from everything.
You can drink these both, but you can just pour it or splash it out. [ He makes a motion like doing so. ] It's magic, so it'll just absorb into the person!
[ Getting into something of a groove, he moves on - to two yellow-ish bottles. ] These are ethers. This deeper coloured one's a turbo ether - it just means it works better if you need more energy. They're for magic and energy recovery! So if you're feeling exhausted or drained 'cause you've been using up a lot of energy, you can take one of these! We've also got some more like this, incense burning. [ He pats a pot. ] I figure they'll be good for people who aren't moving around as much? Anyhow...
[ There's a few other things - a set of stones and white-red feathers. He picks up one feathers, along with a stone; standing there holding them for a moment, but- ]
--These are for people on the verge of dying, or...you know. [ He raises the feather. ] Just bring it to someone at risk, or carry one, and it'll burn out - but you'll still need help after. It's like a- stabiliser, 'til you get better treatment.
[ It's hard to keep his eyes any one place, so he'll just lift the stone. ]
These are the same. We have a few different kinds, but this red ones bring you back up and in good health! So Roland tells me - they're from his world, and these ones we just got in, but I used a couple when we were saving people back in Kamakan!
[ You know, from near suffocation. Sucky situation and all.
Tidus breathes, a few other items on the table that he looks back to, as well as the few other gadgets leaning against it. ]
We've got a bunch - there's the soreaways I was talking about over the ICPs before, and there's also senzu beans, from Trunks's world. And then we have some shields - [ He picks one, rather stony, yet with a white sheen to it, the size of a buckler. ] - that healers can use for keeping patients safe! And then there's the manadrives too.
B-but I've talked a lot as it is. [ oh geez this is so many words!! ] Soo, just ask me about them if you want! Or anything. I've been keeping track of supplies since me and Lightning started putting them together.
When it was her turn, she spoke confidently and calmly, not entirely unused to addressing crowds of her peers, even if she had a preference to remain on the sidelines at times.
"Hello. My name is Lioriley. As with many others here, I am well practiced in healing magics, and have been trained as a Mender for the past six centuries. My abilities work well enough at range, but over the years I have found that skin-to-skin contact is preferable for treatment, as I am able to give a part of my regenerative energy to those that I touch." is this directly connected to her life force? Yes. Does she elaborate on that? No. Not unless asked outright. "I can cure most poisons, mend broken bones and lacerations, and those more intense wounds. I am no stranger to working under pressure, including in combat situations, and am willing and able to protect myself and others should my magic remain in whatever situation we are in. If it does not, I suppose I should seek those willing to teach me the basics of martial fighting." Finally. She'd only put that off for...ever.
Clearing her throat, she continued. "I know basic mundane healing procedures, but my short time aboard the train has suggested that even that is woefully inept given the wide array of technological and medical advancements made. But I am happy and willing to learn. Just as I am willing to teach those that might wish to learn the reverse - assuming such a thing is even possible." It couldn't hurt to try teaching people magic, she figured.
"I have heard of the White Team and would wish to join. As well as help with any of the more organizational tasks required. I know it can be overwhelming, with so many involved."
I’m Naoya. I have a healing spell that can stabilize people long enough to get to a proper healer. I also know first aid. I have plenty of experience dealing with people in the field. We’re all busy so I’ll cut to the chase - I’ve had multiple lives, so I’ve dealt with many different kinds of situations.
I know traditional herbal medicines - at least from my world. I’m not good with growing plants, though - I’ve got somewhat of a black thumb.
[His grin falters slightly at that, but he presses on.]
In short, I’m a good option to get a person back to the healers - I can’t teleport, but I can change forms and fly if need be. As long as the person isn’t huge, I can probably carry them.
[How? … He has his secrets.]
I'm not actually a healer...I'm definitely a fighter, but I am familiar with field medicine, some herbal remedies, and...er, animal care. Should aught require it. I've no affinity for magicks, but I've aether to spare and a knack for being able to follow instructions.
Don't mind him blushing a little golden right now. ]
I... uh... don't know if I had a chance to thank you. For my wings.
[ Maybe if he brought his wings out, they would still look patchy as the feathers regrow (unless the senzu beans take care of that), but they healed in the correct position thanks to being set correctly and the splints. ]
She eats a snack.
At a point when the introductions have reached her section of the room, the silence stretches for a long moment (she chews faster) until she manages, ]
... What Senku said.
[ Look, there's a lot of people here, okay?! It's totally intimidating! Even with both brains on Socialising Duty! ]
The Lunari was, perhaps mercifully, not intimidating in the least, and she approached slowly once all eyes were off the arachne, her voice calm. She had already done her introduction earlier, but said spider could have missed it. )
"My name is Ryo, and I'm on orange team and white squad. I don't really like the idea of visually marking healers, so I tend to hide my band when I wear it - it still works just as well, if anyone else is worried about that.
"I'm also trained in field medicine, if anyone wants to learn to set bones or do stitches, and I have herbal remedies from my world and a scanner from the Ministry that tells me who they'll work on if anyone wants to learn about any of those.
"I have healing magic - it lets me connect my life energy to another's and use it to heal their wounds, and it doesn't hurt me or shorten my life or anything like that." Because there is always that concern whenever he explains how his magic works. "It does require skin contact and it doesn't work if I'm injured too badly, so I tend to stay away from fights and get to work once they're over. Interrupting the connection can also be dangerous, so...again, I usually work after the fighting is done. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask."
no subject
"Can you teach someone else how to connect their energy to someone else's?" Razzy asked. "I know I naturally produce an energy that's been used to fuel regeneration, which is...technically a life energy," she said with a vague hand wave. "And I've used items that have worn me out to heal people. So I know I have the energy that can use it, I just never learned how to siphon it from myself and into people without another's biology or a magic item."
Medical Sign Up
"Hello everyone! In addition to the training sign up, I'd like it if everyone here with medical experience would sign these papers if you haven't already," she said, holding up a stack of papers. "You may or may not have noticed these papers in the medical car and triage, but basically its a list of various medical roles that people can fill for ease of finding them. If people could sign up for them here, I'll make sure the information gets to the papers I have posted in those cars. Also if you can think of another role we should have, let me now and I'll get a list together."
"As for who I am, I'm Razzy. I have extensive first aid experience, abilities to aid in surgeries and x-rays, and I've used...siphons? Siphons for magical healing. I also have something that can help various corruptions and like....last resort therapy," she added.
