It was late, well after midnight. And sleep was not happening tonight. 

Conan had dragged himself out of bed and made his way to the kitchen where he claimed one of the tables. He sits there, clutching at the strongest cup of coffee he could make, and stares moodily out the window.

Kaito rights his chair and moves his cup out of the way, accepting his hand with the usual shark grin.

"Do you want to start or shall I?"

"I dealt, so you can start."

He'd offer to flip for it, but there was no way he was trusting Kaito with a coin flip.

"Fair enough, let's start this ball rolling~ Draw four!"

been years since I played this, trying to remember how game play went.

He draws the cards, adds them to his hand, and scans them briefly.

"Skip." And he lays a red four down on the discard pile.

"Rude~" He sings cheerfully, and drops a blue four.

"Says the one that started with a draw 2." He drops a green four.

"I didn't say you couldn't be rude, I'm just commenting~" Kaito's grin never wavers, as he drops a green five.

Conan drops a wild card on the pile.

"I'm changing it to blue."

[stealsyourheart]

"Meeeeeeeean~" He laments, and reaches for the pile to take another card.

Conan's expression was rather smug.

"Again, you started it."

He sighs deeply and tosses a wildcard down.

"Why are we friends again? Red."

Conan sighs. There wasn't much point in protesting the friend title any more. Not now that their rivalry had devolved to the level of competitive board game marathons.

"Because we keep getting forced to deal with each other by circumstances."

Kaito laughs at his sigh.

"I keep you from being bored." He teases. "You'd be lost without me."

He tosses down a red two.

"Some days I think I could take boredom over your brand of entertainment."

He really couldn't.

"You say that, but I bet Inari you were moping before Hattori-kun and I got here."

Green two.

[deductiongeek]

Green six.

"I was not."

He'd spent most of his first week on the train in varying levels of a panic attack.

Red six.

"Uh huh. Panicking instead then were you?"

[deductiongeek]

"I wasn't panicking. I was having a perfectly rational reaction to the situation."

Red two.

[stealsyourheart]

"So definitely panicking." He smirks at him.

Red three.

[deductiongeek]

Conan makes the decision to ignore him.

And drops a wild draw four.

"Green," he comments smugly.

"Terrible." He sighs dramatically and has to draw a card.

He's smirking though. That evasion was as good as acknowledgement.

Conan drops down a green four with an air of irritation. He knew exactly what that smirk meant.

Then prove him wrong, detective~

"Skip!" He puts down a red four.

He would if he could.

Conan glares at him as he puts down a red draw 2.

Kaito grins saucily at him... and puts down a blue Draw 2.
