Winter Wonderland [Event]

”Good Morning passengers. Today is day Twenty Four of the month of Catfish. You may wish to look out of the window.”

As passengers wake in their beds they will indeed notice something different about the light. If they look out of the window, instead of the ever changing void they will see white slopes of mountains, flakes of snow alling down around them and frost covered trees zipping past the windows. If they glance at the ICP on the table they will see a message.

Investigating the dressing cart they will find the drawers and cupboards unlocked once again. However, instead of the fantasy-esque clothing of world #25768 they will find thick winter coats, hats, gloves and scarves. There are heavy fur lined boots and even some ice skates.

Entering the garden carriage they will see that the glass dome of the roof has opened, leaving the carriage exposed to a bright blue sky. Any nonsense of the past few weeks has vanished, leaving the carriage pristine. Not that that is easy to notice as it is covered in a thick layer of snow. The paths are clearer, a light dusting of snow but easy to talk through. Around the paths the drifts are high, perfect for snowman building or a snowball fight.

The streams and the pond in the centre are solid ice. Anyone brave enough to try to find the ice holds their weight for ice skating.

And the ICP message was correct. There is hot chocolate in the stores.

"Nonsense, dear! Art is art, no matter how you express it." She smiles at her.

"I'd love to see your drawings sometime, if you don't mind sharing. And I've had a lot of practice to get this good, my dear!

"O.. Oh! Of course you can see them if you want.." The reason her voice trails off a little near the end of that sentence is that she's definitely shy about showing them. Especially to someone who is able to make art that's this amazing. Madoka may even be blushing a little due to the shyness.

"Making sculptures seems like fun too, but.. also very difficult."

"It can be, in the beginning. But once you learn how to listen to the stone, it becomes much easier!"

Madoka tilts her head slightly to the side, like she's thinking about something.

"Listen.. to the stone? I didn't know stone could make sound."

"All that exists has it's own Song, it's own voice." Nerdanel says simply. "Once you know what the stone wants to be, you can work with it."

"Its own song.."

She repeats the words again. Mostly since she really has to think about them! It sounds so wise and cool, almost like something you'd hear in a movie. But at the same time Madoka does want to take it seriously.

"So you try to find that song and then make what it's telling you? That's so cool.."

"More or less." She smiles. "You can try and convince them to help you too - but it's always best if you pick a path not that dissimilar to what it would do naturally. Stone wants to split, naturally. When I suggest it split in the way that gives rise to the image I am trying to produce, I always try and do so along natural lines. This makes it much more likely for it to co-operate."

"You sound like you know so much about this." But then again, you probably have to know as much to be able to make sculptures this pretty, Madoka thinks. "You must have been making pretty things like these for a long time already."

"Oh well, I've been doing this for many, many yeni." She smiles at Madoka. "I've always been one for this sort of expression, since I was a little girl."

The young girl seems to think for a moment, lightly tugging on a strand of her pink hair as she does so.

"Then.. do you think I could become as good as you if I practiced for that long..?" Madoka is still little now, after all.

"Um, not with sculpting though, I mean!" She shakes her head. It feels like it's too late for her to even start on that by now. "But.. you know, with drawing and all.."

"I'm sure you could!" Nerdanel smiles at her encouragingly. "And you never know, with sculpture - not until you try. But if you like to draw, I would start there. All our greatest creations come where Art meet Passion."

"Then I'll keep trying, miss!"

She may not have tons of faith in her ability to become great at drawing, but at least keeping it up won't hurt, right? Especially since it's the thing she does most on the train anyway when she's finished up all her chores.

Madoka quickly bows.

"Thank you for the advice!"

Nerdanel smiles approvingly.

"That is the spirit." She agrees. "Try, and try again. All of us learn the same way."
