A new Platform [Intro post~ August]
For those on the Train
"Good morning passengers, it is day sixteen of the month of Apple." The train announces as always as everyone wakes up the morning of the sixteenth. "Due to your success on Hub World #5739 your team points have been updated on the system. The on train shop has unlocked new stock."
For those going to investigate it might seem like the boredom of the last two weeks will be alleviated a little. More so after a few hours when there is a second announcement.
"Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. Exit from void imminent."
By now they should know to hold on as the train jerks and jolts. There is only fog outside the windows but the train soon comes to a stop. The doors hiss open.
As they exit into the fog they may notice Hibiki exiting from the luggage carriage door. She hasn’t been seen since the Hub World and they might be forgiven for believing she stayed behind. But here she is, backpack on her back as she walks through the station. She heads no call, reacts to no words and cannot be stopped as she walks to the ticket barrier and disappears through it.
It is impossible to follow. But you soon may be distracted because this platform is far from empty.
For new arrivals
At first all you can see if steam. Billowing around you as you come to your senses. You are standing, in clothes that are not your own, styles you might not even recognise. You are carrying a rucksack on your back. For a moment it seems to just be you, alone in the white haze but then the steam begins to fade and you realise you aren’t alone.
The platform is not very large, but it hold twelve figures all facing the tracks, all wearing similar clothing, even if one of them is a spider. The tracks stretch left and right into steam, or perhaps fog. Nothing can be seen to either side. There is a wall around the platform and the only entrance is a ticket barrier. It cannot be open, nor do there seem to be any staff.
What there is, is a train. Jet black and gleaming where it stands on the rails.Voidtrecker Express is emblazoned in the engine in gold. There is a hiss as the doors slide open.
Out step a selection of people, wearing clothes just like yours.
The Train
The doors hiss open. Those from the train may encourage those on the platform to board. It’s not like there is anywhere else to go and even if there was, you feel a pull. A need to board, a feeling that staying on the platform would not be a good thing.
Once on the train there is plenty to explore. A new sleeper carriage has appeared as has a medical bay. Neither were there before those already on the train had disembarked to meet their new travelling companions.
Each ICP shows the same message. The food stores have been topped up with new fresh food, though it seems that eggs are still predominately on the menu.
New passengers will find their tickets allow them into their cabins. They may need to negotiate for beds, especially if they want a top bunk!
Room is tight but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches and you will hopefully find a pillow for your bed if it has not been nabbed by a roommate, there are also spare blankets for if it gets cold.
Departure
A second horn sounds to encourage any stragglers and the doors slide shut. Those who boarded two weeks ago will know what is coming next.
The train sets off, the fog obscuring the view as it picks up speed.
"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express." A female-coded artificial sounding voice echoes throughout the train. "Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."
The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog filled sky.
"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated."
Hopefully someone warns you that you really want to heed that warning because a moment later there is a shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding.
As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever changing colours.
Welcome to voidspace.

Maglor pauses when he almost collides with another, then glances behind him before returning his attention to the blond man. "If you do not care for spiders, avoid cabin D. I seem to have acquired one as a roommate, and it does not like elves." He doesn't like spiders either, for the record, but he doesn't go around making 'No (insert race here) allowed!' signs!
no subject
"I'm sorry, did you just say a spider and elves?" He'd only read about elves in books and figured they were only a myth. He had to be dreaming, but the royal advisor had already pinched himself several times and didn't wake up.
no subject
He doesn't sigh, quite. Instead, he reaches a hand up to push long hair back from behind a delicately pointed ear, turning his head just enough for it to be clearly visible. "I did. Or perhaps this spider merely doesn't like me, considering it attacked first. It probably reaches about to my waist, though I cannot be entirely sure as it was making a nest of one of the top bunks."
Aka: BIG SPIDER for most people. Kind of puny in terms of Ungoliant's spawn.
no subject
The spider was definitely troubling news though and he chose to focus his attention on that as his head lowered, trying to think. "I have to wonder if it is simply lost and not meant to be here as one of the passengers."
no subject
Maglor appreciates the clear calculation and desire to think as well as understand. "The clothing I noticed on it hints that it is a passenger just as we are, as our clothes are all much the same."
Which is just one reason he hadn't ended up just skewering the creature.
no subject
"I don't think it would be content to sit and nest in a room all day as we travel about. If it is indeed meant to be here as one of the rest of us, then I believe others should be informed, especially as you said it attacked you first, so it may be aggressive." Another thought. "Or it was simply scared." That was a philsophy that he'd used on Noctis about the creatures they faced. He would remind the Prince that they were just as scared of the four of them.
Ignis had seen children getting on board which had somewhat distressed him as he didn't believe that they should be a part of any of this. Some adults may be able to handle themselves against the spider, but the little ones wouldn't be so lucky.
no subject
"By the look of you, you know how to handle yourself. Not all do, as I am certain you are aware. I am unfamiliar with the technology this...train provides. Are you?"
no subject
Ignis would never say that he wasn't concerned about a spider passenger on board. So on top of everything else that they had to do and accomplish so that they could all just go home, there was that complication.
"I can most certainly handle myself but yes I am aware of that." As Ignis said this, it came out deadpanned. But if he wasn't mistaken, the other was concerned. And if the elf was unfamiliar with the technology, then he could help.
"Admittedly some of it seems to be older technology than even I'm used to. However, I can give a basic overview of what I have seen so far." Maybe that would put the other man's mind at ease.
no subject
Welcome to his life, Iggy. Complication is what it's made of. Maglor seems to attract trouble.
But at least Ignis seems able and willing to fight as needed. One less person he'll have to keep a strict eye on when things get hairy.
"That would be appreciated," he accepts the offer with a nod.
no subject
"I haven't had a lot of time, but I am familiar with trains, as we have them back home. But I'm willing to share what I know and have learned so far, whenever you are ready of course."
And hopefully just get the hell back home sometime soon. He'd sworn an oath as the king's right hand, and he had to pick up his duties where he'd left off. Noctis was the trouble magnet and it was his job to mititgate and eliminate all damage and threats to the king.
no subject
"You have had more time than I," he quietly points out. He's not so proud anymore that he can't admit not knowing this technology or how it works. "I tend not to sleep much, so when you are willing to put the time in, I will be ready."
no subject
"We can begin this evening then if that is alright with you." This again was him being courteous and showing respect. The advisor knew he wasn't going to be able to sleep himself, simply wanting to so badly return home. This was a sentiment he was more than sure was shared by just about everyne on board, especially with a spider lurking in one of the cabins.
Might as well do something to pass the time.
no subject
"Then I will look forward to this evening." Courtesy and respect are things he appreciates and returns in kind. And he plans to spend as little time as possible in his cabin, thank you very much.
"Where would you like to meet?"
no subject
"Here would be fine since we both know where it is, if that is agreeable to you." Ignis is going to try and make things simple too because he realizes after spending so much time with people who don't operate as he does that simple is best.
