A new Platform [Intro post~ August]

For those on the Train

"Good morning passengers, it is day sixteen of the month of Apple." The train announces as always as everyone wakes up the morning of the sixteenth. "Due to your success on Hub World #5739 your team points have been updated on the system. The on train shop has unlocked new stock."

For those going to investigate it might seem like the boredom of the last two weeks will be alleviated a little. More so after a few hours when there is a second announcement.

"Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. Exit from void imminent."

By now they should know to hold on as the train jerks and jolts. There is only fog outside the windows but the train soon comes to a stop. The doors hiss open.

As they exit into the fog they may notice Hibiki exiting from the luggage carriage door. She hasn’t been seen since the Hub World and they might be forgiven for believing she stayed behind. But here she is, backpack on her back as she walks through the station. She heads no call, reacts to no words and cannot be stopped as she walks to the ticket barrier and disappears through it.

It is impossible to follow. But you soon may be distracted because this platform is far from empty.

For new arrivals

At first all you can see if steam. Billowing around you as you come to your senses. You are standing, in clothes that are not your own, styles you might not even recognise. You are carrying a rucksack on your back. For a moment it seems to just be you, alone in the white haze but then the steam begins to fade and you realise you aren’t alone.

The platform is not very large, but it hold twelve figures all facing the tracks, all wearing similar clothing, even if one of them is a spider. The tracks stretch left and right into steam, or perhaps fog. Nothing can be seen to either side. There is a wall around the platform and the only entrance is a ticket barrier. It cannot be open, nor do there seem to be any staff.

What there is, is a train. Jet black and gleaming where it stands on the rails.Voidtrecker Express is emblazoned in the engine in gold. There is a hiss as the doors slide open.

Out step a selection of people, wearing clothes just like yours.

The Train

The doors hiss open. Those from the train may encourage those on the platform to board. It’s not like there is anywhere else to go and even if there was, you feel a pull. A need to board, a feeling that staying on the platform would not be a good thing.

Once on the train there is plenty to explore. A new sleeper carriage has appeared as has a medical bay. Neither were there before those already on the train had disembarked to meet their new travelling companions.

Each ICP shows the same message. The food stores have been topped up with new fresh food, though it seems that eggs are still predominately on the menu.

New passengers will find their tickets allow them into their cabins. They may need to negotiate for beds, especially if they want a top bunk!

Room is tight but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches and you will hopefully find a pillow for your bed if it has not been nabbed by a roommate, there are also spare blankets for if it gets cold.

Departure

A second horn sounds to encourage any stragglers and the doors slide shut. Those who boarded two weeks ago will know what is coming next.

The train sets off, the fog obscuring the view as it picks up speed.

"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express." A female-coded artificial sounding voice echoes throughout the train. "Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."

The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog filled sky.

"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated."

Hopefully someone warns you that you really want to heed that warning because a moment later there is a shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding.

As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever changing colours.

Welcome to voidspace.

Not really, but she hadn't achieved the higher learning part for conventional schooling. Yet. Hopefully she would--if Renee ever got off this crazy train. She at least could keep herself occupied enough to stay out of trouble while bored...usually. At the moment, she wasn't aware of the lack of things to do on the train, so that might be different.

Ah she figured Pete was smart, so it surprised her not a bit that he was Tony's intern! "That's nice to have--even if I wouldn't wish it on any of my friends." Yeah right, not that Renee really had a ton of actual friends back home either. Acquaintances. People she knew. But since her family split themselves up, well. She just didn't put herself out there as much, any more. "It's got to be nice to have a support system--even if you probably don't want him here."

She wouldn't want anyone 'close' to her here. If they existed.

Tony gives her a smirk. "You'd better be meaning you wouldn't wish being on this train on friends, not being my intern!" It was a tease. He didn't really think she was meaning to throw shade at him.

He shrugs with a nod at her guessing about the support system and the fact he didn't want Peter there. "I thought that more when I first got here. Now.. I'm not sure. There are a lot of good people on this train. You should look out for the name Sarai. She and her husband are here and they're both good allies to have."

"Being your intern would be cool and I'm actually kinda jealous of him there, 'kay?" She was kind of tempted to stick her tongue out at Tony, now, but she was supposed to be mature--maybe not as much as him, but still.

That wasn't a name she'd ever heard of--sounded kind of exotic. "Okay, I'll do that. What do they look like? And what's her husband's name? I'm pretty sure he doesn't just go by 'Sarai's husband'."

Yeah she laughed, then. Poor Tony. Renee thought she was funny too.

Tony grins, like a pleased tiger at being his intern. "It's the best! You have no idea how much I've spent on him already. If we ever go back though, he might be getting one of those big bubbles hamsters get stuck in."

"He's huge, she's tiny. And he really would answer to that. Just find a hall and call down 'Sarai's husband' and I'll bet you a twenty, he'll come out. He's about as smart as Thor looks like if you put Steve Rogers on steriods."

"Just from what Pete's said to me...it kinda sounds like he might need it. Disaster prone is a bit too mild for what happens to him." Really, it kind of made Renee feel bad. Sure, she could call herself disaster prone, too, but she did it to herself...

She narrowed her eyes at Tony, now. "I'd do that, except I don't have a twenty to bet. It also sounds like a sucker bet. And...that's weird, Mr. Stark." Admittedly, Renee was having a hard time wrapping her head around that particular mental image.

"That's honestly is real super power. He's a walking Murphy's Law representative. You've figured him out if you understand that."

He chuckles, finding her reactions highly amusing. He was going to enjoy having her on board. "They're weird, it's true. Your other option is to call him Dread. Trust me, you'll know him immediately when you see him. Say any compliment about his wife though and he'll go from intimidating to docile in a second. Make it up if you have to."

"He needs to be that kid in the bubble because his immune system didn't work or something like that." Renee just shook her head. Poor Pete.

"Make it up? How do I do that if I don't even know her?" Then again, mollifying a really big dude is just good advice. Maybe if she just said his wife was really nice, that'd be good enough.

"Well, worse comes to worse if I don't get on his good side, he can't hurt me that much." Thank goodness for mutant powers. For once.

"He does. It's a problem," Tony jokes. "And just use something generic. She's pretty, she's nice. Whatever. You don't have to mean it. Although she is those things."

"He can't hurt you because none of us will let him too. I'm not letting anyone get hurt on this train, you have my word on that. But really, he won't try." He looks back towards the train. He felt like they should be getting on board. He wasn't sure why he was feeling that way, but before he can think too long about it, he hears himself saying, "We should get you on board. Would you care for any assistance finding your cabin?"

She'd been feeling that way too--which was weird, but the platform was even more mysterious and hazy and getting even more so by the minute. Renee had her own instincts, and they were starting to yell.

"Eh, I believe you. So far he doesn't sound like the type of guy who'd just go off on someone for no reason. So if I piss him off, I'd deserve it." Especially since Tony had no idea what kind of a butthead she could be. He'd find out...

Renee headed for the stairs, shaking her head. "Nah, I think I can find it. But thanks. I'll see you around, probably."
