Event: Abort! Part Two (day 25, Egret). Luggage carriage

They are on world world#27462947582 for about five hours, helping, ushering people out of the city, fighting monsters, keeping guard. All seems well in the city itself, peaceful even except for the slight panic of people being told to move south.

Wherever they are, north in the desert, travelling through the countryside to the south or still in the city itself they will notice from their peripheral vision a darkening of the sky. Looking up they will see clouds. Strange clouds, appearing in the blue sky out of nowhere.

Their SCA’s start beeping, rapidly, flashing red. The clouds are too weird to be clouds, dark shapes in the sky. It might be that the Voidtreckers heed the warning and tap their SCA to evacuate to the train. It might be that they do not.

If they don’t then there is a moment, a moment of absolute stillness as those around them notice the shapes. A confused pause. Children stop their chatter, people stop their complaining, even the monsters seem to sense something and pause in their attacks.

The remaining voidtreckers are yanked away, even without pressing their SCA, they glow gold and disappear.

They all appear in the luggage carriage and not even a second later, with no warning the train lurches, flinging everyone off their feet as it enters the void.

It’s not really easy to tell speed in the void, but they will get the sense that they are moving fast. Faster than before, leaving that world and whatever those shapes were behind.

Glorfindel smiled. "Then with your endorsement, I am satisfied. I will make her cookies and do my best to get to know her better. I understand that with cookies she is willing to make clothing? I feel odd bringing someone such a bribe when I should be bringing a simple gift of friendship."

Nerdanel smiles. "Indeed! Although you could just ask nicely. But she does indeed have some terribly childish urges. I recommend chocolate chip."

Just like elflings.

Gorfindel nodded. A spider with a sweet-tooth. For a brief moment he wondered if she spun the cookies in a cocoon and then drained out the chocolate. Well, if so, he'd best use a lot of chocolate, then, hadn't he?

"I think the dough has rested enough," he said. He looked around the kitchen. "Where would you put a rolling pin, if you were designing such a space?"

"I would hang it over the bench!" She laughs. "Although I suspect that is not a good idea, in a moving conveyance. Shall we check the drawers?"

laurefindil: (Chilling)

[personal profile] laurefindil 2020-05-21 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
"I imagine that having things bolted down is a good idea," agreed Glorfindel. "Much like on a boat."

It only took a couple of minutes and not quite all the drawers to find it. He washed it off and dried it, then covered his work surface in flour again.

Nerdanel helps him look.

"Should I get the oven ready? Will you need a tray or bowl?"

laurefindil: (Default)

[personal profile] laurefindil 2020-05-21 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Two trays, actually," he said, smiling his thanks.

He got out the dough and the butter and started the folding and rolling.

It took awhile to get the layers made, then he set it aside.

"I should have made the filling while we waited." He shook his head at himself.

[personal profile] marriedanidiot 2020-05-21 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
She greases the trays for him, watching, and then laughs.

"Oops. Well, I can help you with that, maybe?"

"Do you know how to zest a lemon?" he asked.

He started blending together the cream cheese and the sugar, beating it until it was silky smooth.
marriedanidiot: (Nerdanel)

[personal profile] marriedanidiot 2020-05-22 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"That I can do." She smiles, and settles down to do so.

"A lot of different ingredients in this dish!"
laurefindil: (Default)

[personal profile] laurefindil 2020-05-22 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
He shrugged. "Compared to some perhaps. The actuall hard part is the time needed to let things chill and rise properly. But," he shrugged and gave her a grin, "we're elves, time we have!"
marriedanidiot: (working hard)

[personal profile] marriedanidiot 2020-05-23 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
She chuckles. "True! Sometimes, time is all we have." She agrees. "Although in this case, we might have to contend with hungry passengers!"
laurefindil: (Default)

[personal profile] laurefindil 2020-05-24 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
He laughed. "Until it starts baking and the smell drifts out, only you and I know we're making it. Okay, ready for the zest." He added the rest of the ingredients and mixed it smooth.
marriedanidiot: (Default)

[personal profile] marriedanidiot 2020-05-25 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, but the moment the smell begins, we will have all the ... teenagers, yes? That is what they call them? Young Peter and his friends. Always hungry, they are."

She adds the zest, humming approvingly.
laurefindil: (He's got the Glow)

[personal profile] laurefindil 2020-05-25 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
He laughed. "They are like elflings; still growing and need fuel to feed all that energy! We are making enough, they should be able to have some if they like."

Now mixed, he divided up the dough, and added the filling. Not too much, not to little. A little final brush with the glaze and they were ready to go into the oven.

"With equal lack of understanding of their limits too!" She agrees and helps, following his directions carefully - good pastry needs exactness, after all!
laurefindil: (Do Go On)

Cooking is an art, baking is a science, indeed!

[personal profile] laurefindil 2020-05-27 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
He laughed as they finished up. "Despite our differences, it seems children and youths are quite similar. I remember growing up in Valinor, eating watermelon straight from the vine, playing in the river, eating fresh caught fish, cooked to perfection over an open fire." Ah, nostalgia.

experimenting on increasingly improbable flavours is Feanor? XD

[personal profile] marriedanidiot 2020-05-27 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Mm, yes." She agrees. "Feanaro and I would go down to the outer edges, where the Treelight went dim, and hunt for mussels in the rockpools."
laurefindil: (Do Go On)

Re: experimenting on increasingly improbable flavours is Feanor? XD

[personal profile] laurefindil 2020-05-28 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Mm," Glorfindel said with a twinkle in his eye. "Spending time with the people you like best is definitely a bonus!"
marriedanidiot: (Default)

[personal profile] marriedanidiot 2020-05-28 02:27 am (UTC)(link)

"Most certainly!" She smiles at the memory. "We took our boys too, when they were older."

laurefindil: (Look over there!)

[personal profile] laurefindil 2020-05-29 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Happy family memories are something to cherish," Glorfindel agreed. "Are you making any new ones here?"
marriedanidiot: (married)

[personal profile] marriedanidiot 2020-05-30 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
"I am, yes." She smiles shyly. "I know Wisdom would be to refuse him, but... to have Feanaro back again..."
laurefindil: (Peaceful)

[personal profile] laurefindil 2020-06-04 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Why would Wisdom say such a thing?" Glorfindel asked, surprised. "You have been given this time together. Perhaps...it is part of his Redemption Arc?" he said with a quirked smile and a twinkle in his eyes.
marriedanidiot: (Default)

[personal profile] marriedanidiot 2020-06-05 04:08 am (UTC)(link)

She blinks at him in surprise. "You are one of the few who would say that." She says slowly. "Do you know why they call me Nerdanel the Wise in Tirion? They say it is because I saw his heart and left him for the shadows there."

Which is partially true, but hardly the whole of their screaming argument that led to her storming away in one direction and him in another.

laurefindil: (Seriously)

[personal profile] laurefindil 2020-06-07 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Do you still see those shadows now?" Glorfindel asked curiously. While he knew Feanor would always have that history, he wondered if the time spent in the Halls was helping him heal, or if he was pulled too soon for this strange adventure they were all on.
