Fight Club Open Log! (Catch-All For the Month of Fiddlesticks)
This is an OPEN LOG for anyone to join. Make toplevels to your heart's content and tag around to each other freely. Whether your character is offering to teach or wanders in looking for someone to get them involved (or just to watch), this is a post for you! You may use this for any sort of open or even private threads if you so wish.
This log is for anyone who wants to participate in exercising, training, sparring, and teaching lessons. Some of the "classes" also involve things like yoga, meditation, and easier self defense mechanisms for anyone to learn. Magic users are also extremely encouraged to use the practice dummies and other facilities as well! After all, they also need to practice and also get used to having physical fighters near them as they spellcast. And vice versa. Plus, some people use both abilities in battle!
Basically, if you want to learn new skills that could be useful on missions, come take a peek!
For a basic set-up consider this: a majority of this takes place in the gym; it's regulars have set it up with target dummies and various practice armaments. Armaments currently consist of things like wooden practice swords, poles, and bows and arrows. A few real weapons can be borrowed from either 47 (or perhaps others willing to share) or created by Piccolo upon request. (If you have any weapons or items to add to the practice sessions, please drop a line in the ooc post!) Of course characters can always bring and use their own items these are just for general use for anyone without armaments already. No one is regulating anything like that.
Various characters will be around to help answer questions icly if you like (I have 47 on offer for starters) and if you have any ooc questions or comments drop a line over here! An ic announcement was also made by 47 if your character needs an impetus for heading towards the gym. c:
And remember: you do you and have fun!!!

"Would you like to learn boxing?" he asked her as he stepped forward to better examine her position. It wasn't perfect but it was a good start. Before he started coaching her on why she was in this position though he wanted her to know what she was mimicking a little better. "Boxing is typically a sport that focuses on punching. Defense, therefore, is mainly focused on the face and upper body where most punches are aimed. Unless you add in kick-boxing to the mix."
Which was a better mix of martial arts in 47's opinion. This wasn't to say 47 was going to limit Samata's training either. There were other techniques he would want to teach anyone for personal defense. This was all just the beginning to get a feel for what she was comfortable with learning.

She rolled her shoulder. The metal one. "I don't know how strong of a punch I can throw with this anyway. It wasn't built for that."
no subject
His eyes flicked to the metal arm and back to her face. "Do you mind...?" he asked as he indicated he would like to examine it.

"It's impressive. Even by the standards of my world, this design would be applauded." The biggest difference being the materials used to make it. Samata's arm, however, was every bit the perfect design even compared to the robotics of his world.

But compared to 47, she was still hardly the peak of fitness.
"It's the second version of the arm. The first only had two fingers and didn't have proprioception. I have a design for the third version which should be a lot lighter and sturdier, be able to feel pressure, and will actually have five fingers! But being stuck on the train has obviously put those plans on hold, as I don't have access to a proper smith anymore."
Getting off topic. "I don't think I could throw punches with this, though. Not if I want it to stay on right. So boxing is probably not a great way for me to fight."
no subject
But she was right, the focus here wasn't entirely the arm. It was just part of the equation. 47 backed a little bit away now that he was done examining the arm at length. "You're right. There are other styles we could focus on. In which case," 47 trailed off. As he did so he took a stance similar to the one Samata had taken earlier except he had his hands in a slightly different position. One was high, the other low. "Take this stance."
no subject
Unimportant, right now. Samata did her best to copy his stance. She did...alright.
no subject
He looked over her stance and pointed out a few adjustments for her to make.
"Your higher hand protects the face. Be sure to keep it up though you can be as relaxed as you need to be. Your lower hand protects your lower body," he explained to her. He explained the rest of the stance and positioning of the body as well.
"I'll demonstrate," he told her. Then, "Attack me."
He wasn't worried about her ability to throw a punch or kick at the moment. He would go over that with her in a little bit. For now, he simply wanted her to attack him so he could show her the point of what he just explained. So he could show her how to deflect a direct attack. It would be their top priority though he would go over the rest as well. But one thing at a time.

Samata felt like she had the stance down, but didn't have a good sense of what she could do with it. So maybe a demonstration was in order.
When it was her turn to attack, Samata hesitated for a moment, then just sort of swung at him. It was an alright punch, for someone who was never taught how to throw a punch, but as was mentioned, her attacking form wasn't really the focus right now.

As a follow-up he released her wrist and brought his elbow back around for a blow to the front of the face, though once again he stopped short of actually hitting her. If that first blow hadn't knocked out 47's opponent the second most likely would have.
He took a step back and waited for her to reorient herself before he spoke to her. "Simple blocks and counters such as that one leave an opponent open for easy attacks to vital areas of the body. Additionally, I'll teach you joint locks and holds that incapacitate an opponent of any size. Relying on strength only does so much. Sometimes the better option is to use your opponent's strength against them, or prevent them from using said strength with techniques that break their concentration, balance, or by using pain to lock up the body. Or a combination."
