Fiddlesticks, Day 3, OTA
Who: Glorfindel, OTA
Where: Various locations, hopefully will contain hooks for Kaito, Lan Wanji, Sarai (and Komoko), and whomever *cough*Feanor*cough* might want to interact with him.
Kitchen - Sarai specific
Glorfindel was more than a little nervous. It was one thing to say he was going to make friends with a giant spider, and another thing entirely to do it. But he'd had no premonitions that this would be a Bad Idea, plus, he'd get to make cookies, so he was determined to see this through. He was a little early, however, so he made himself a cup of tea and waited for Sarai to arrive.
Greenhouse - OTA
Glorfindel stared in fascination at the small patch of bamboo that he'd planted here. He was actively encouraging it to grow, but he was starting to wonder if that was such a good idea. He was no Persephone, able to bring a plant from seedling to fruiting in mere moments, but the bamboo didn't seem to know that. It was already two feet high and visibly growing. He had promised wood for Alex for a small loom, and for practice weapons, and perhaps maybe find one or two bits appropriate to make some flutes.
"We might end up with extra wood," he said aloud.
Music Lessons - Lan Wangji
Glorfindel checked the time on his wrist amulet again, then finally knocked on the door to Cabin 1:B. He'd arranged to meet here with Lan Wangji and go to discuss and perhaps actually start, guqin lessons. He was quite excited about the prospect.
Dining Car - OTA
Glorfindel picked up the cups and dishes once he'd properly disposed of the trash and carried them over to the dumbwaiter. Either another member of Team Purple would find them upstairs and wash them, or he'd go up after finishing down here and do it. Either way, keeping the train clean was Team Purple's job this month. He started wiping down the tables, humming as he worked. Though even so, his movements were careful enough that the bell at his belt did not ring.
He looked up as the door into the car opened.
Wildcard - Open
(Where do you want to find Glorfindel? Outside the shower? In the Stores? Looking confused at the Cinema? Got a pet that likes to nap next to the sun? Let me know!)

He shifted slightly in his seat to be able to retrieve his guqin and set it on the table between the seats, turned so they could both see it from the same angle.
"A guqin has seven strings, which are made from twisted silk. Depending on the positioning of your hands, it will change the tone. The thirteen hui along the side help with marking the positions of your hand."
The hui were thirteen dots spaced along the length of the guqin.
He began first by listing which strings would play which notes, as this was important to know, and then demonstrating how the position of both hands could change the tone of the strings.
no subject
"Could you show me that last one again," he occasionally asked as they went through the hand placements.
no subject
"Of course." And WangJi would show him again, having no issue with repeating himself or showing it again. It was not an intuitive instrument and required practice so he was willing to show.
no subject
"It may be some time before I can request one of these from the store. Although...if someone knows how to make one, I am growing some bamboo, and there is silk available." He didn't want to be a pest, but this was fascinating and he definitely wanted to learn it. All the hand positions, the different tones, the effects, it was quite different from say, the harp.
He looked at his fingers, which were starting to turn red on those that didn't have other calluses. His hand glowed brightly for a moment, and the red faded. "Elves heal fast, but, why wait?"
no subject
"I understand. It might take some time to request one. I don't know that making one here would have the same quality. A guqin is made of two different types of wood and it takes months to properly craft one. I suppose we could make a simpler version that would allow for some practicing."
WangJi watched as the redness began to fade rapidly. "Impressive."
no subject
"At the least, a simple mockup so I can practice my fingering and hand positions," Glorfindel agreed.
He shrugged. "Elves heal fast. I just heal...faster." He chuckled, a little dryly. "It is as though Manwe and the Valar gifted me the powers that would have done me the most good, fighting the Balrog that killed me."
no subject
"I think something like that could be made easily with some bamboo and silk. We could make it the same size as the guqin with the appropriate hui marked out."
"Increased healing is a boon in a fight. You... were given that ability after you had died?"
no subject
He nodded. "Among other things. I also have the ability to speed the healing of others. After battles I would go and spend time in the Healing Wing to do just that and to lighten the spirits of those who wounded," he looked up, "something else my abilities grant me. I can also heat water, haven't needed a torch since my rebirth, and never get cold, even in the dead of winter." There were other things as well, but he didn't like bringing them up. There were times when he wished he had more fine tuning on his powers.
no subject
"Amazing. That is quite a list of abilities. I don't know that most cultivators would have all of those abilities. A cultivator who can use their spiritual energy to heal most likely wouldn't have abilities such as heating water."
no subject
He smiled a bit ruefully. "I don't think it was meant to be used to heat tea, honestly."

WangJi paused a moment, moving his hand way from the strings of the instrument. "The power that elves have, are they always given or are some born with it or inherit them?"
no subject
"My powers that set me apart from Elves are those of a Maia, again, they are born with the abilities, but to me, they were given by Manwe. I've not known another elf so gifted, though." It does set him apart, neither fish nor fowl, but his friends, once they got to know him, didn't seem to mind.

"For...travel?" he asked. Clearly Lan Wangji's world was just as fascinating.
