A Fluffy New Friend

WangJi was happy. How could he not be when the best husband he could ask for gifted him with a white rabbit. Rabbits were his favorite and he liked them. Now he had one of his own.

Of course, he wouldn't be a responsible pet owner if he didn't show his pet around the train so it could be used to the accommodations... and the fact that their home moved even though most of the time it wasn't too noticeable.

But he could easily be found around on arrival day with the rabbit safely tucked in his arms, still clearly visible so it could look around and see and greet others.

Prior to mealtime, WangJi could be found in the dining car sitting at one of the tables, letting the rabbit stretch its legs for a few minutes and look around. Yes, the rabbit was on the table, but he wasn't letting it out of arms reach just in case. Luckily, it seemed more content to just sit for the moment.

Where the rabbit was most happy was in the garden car. It had the chance to run around a bit in there and as long as it stayed away from the plants other passengers were growing, WangJi let it explore and walk on its own though he was not far away to make sure it didn't get anything it shouldn't.

The rabbit watched as Amira walked away, clearly unconcerned with a feline that was so small and hadn't tried to go after him. WangJi looked down at the cat. "Thank you. And you may pet Little Rabbit as well. He seems to enjoy it." With that, WangJi crouched so that he could lightly pet Amira.

With WangJi's blessing, Trowa reached for the rabbit and stroked between its ears. It was very soft, and seemed to be quite friendly. "Hello, Little Rabbit."

Amira sniffed at WangJi's long fingers before rubbing her ears against them.

Little Rabbit was happy with pets and made a happy bunny face as he settled in to let someone dote on him. He was friendly, which was good because WangJi was enjoying being able to carry the rabbit around.

Echoing Trowa's comment, WangJi said "Hello, little one" to Amira as she rubbed her ears against his hand.

Since the bunny seemed happy at the petting, Trowa took a chance. He set his flute on the ground and carefully picked the bun up to cuddle it. "You are a very soft rabbit, aren't you? I'm sure you're getting lots of tasty vegetables from the kitchen, too."

Little Rabbit was okay with being picked up and pet, curling up in Trowa's arms, little nose wiggling as he rested there.

"He is very soft. Yes, he is very spoiled with vegetables."

He gently pet Amira on the head with one finger.

Amira pressed up into the finger, purring her little heart out. It made Trowa chuckle a little. "It seems she likes you."

Awww! The tiny feline was purring.

"It seems that she does. Little Rabbit seems to like you as well."

"Well, I do spend a good chuck of time here if Little Rabbit ever wants to come play with Amira." Trowa stroked the bunny softly, smiling as it nuzzled his fingers.

"I will remember that. I'm sure he would like a playmate. Currently, he has none."

Little Rabbit rubbed against his fingers, very happy to have other people to hang out and meet. He wasn't quite sure about the feline yet, but it hadn't tried to attack him.

Well, since they were close enough... he wiggled out from under Trowa's hand and went over to Amira, carefully nosing her.

Amira responded to the nosing by turning away from WangJi's fingers to sniff at the rabbit, padding around him to sniff his tail.

Trowa watched the exchange with a smile. "They certainly seem to be getting on well so far."

"They do certainly seem to be."

Little Rabbit did a little bounce as Amira moved behind him but turned around so he could see Amira again.

The bounce made Amira do a little hop of her own, dropping into a pouncing pose as she reached one paw out to tap Little Rabbit on the nose.

"I think they're becoming friends already. I expect they'll be tearing around the greenhouse any minute now."

Bouncing buddy! And then when Amira tapped him on the nose again, Little Rabbit took off, hopping to another part of the garden car, like "can't catch me!"

"Yes, it seems that they are."

Trowa laughed as Amira took off after Little Rabbit. listening to them charging between the different plants. "Well, Little Rabbit won't go hungry while they're playing, at least."

"That is true." WangJi smiled faintly hearing the cat and the rabbit running around through the garden car. At least they were having fun and he had wanted the rabbit to meet more people. "Is she your first pet?"

"My first personal pet? Yes. Before the train I was part of a circus that has a pair of lions that I helped care for. They seem to like me a lot, since I can groom them without needing to sedate them." Trowa heard a squeak and stood to look for the source. Amira was shaking her head after having tumbled from the lip of one of the planter boxes, but seemed fine once she got over the shock.

"The circus? You performed in the circus or did you merely assist? And they had live lions."

WangJi also glanced over at the sound, looking to see which animal had made that. Little Rabbit had, of course, heard his playmate squeak and came over cautiously to make sure she was alright, sniffing at her.

"Are they well?"

He knew animals tended to get bumps and bruises when young, just like kids. Most of the time they were alright.

Trowa nodded. "I did a bit of both. My sister is the knife thrower, and I'm her live target. She's only ever nicked me once. I also do some balance and juggling acts. And yes, the lions are live. The male's name is Boscoe, and he loves it when I get in the cage with him to brush him. He likes to try and play by laying on me."

Taking another look at Amira, he smiled and nodded. "Yeah, she's alright. Just took a little tumble.

"Very interesting." Both his performance and the fact that they have live lions in their act. Most 'lion acts' he knew of were dancers for festivals. "You seem to have a good relationship with them if you can interact so easily with them."

"That is good. Even small animals are tougher than they appear."

And with that, Little Bunny nudged Amira to play again.

"We have a mutual understanding. And I can read them well enough to know when they aren't in the mood to be handled. Their current handler wants to train me to be able to do his job when he retires, but I haven't taken him up on it yet." Mostly because that would mean not being able to take time away to spend with Quatre, and Trowa didn't want to lose that freedom.

Amira nudged back, this time being the one to take off running to let Little Rabbit chase her.

"Not many people can claim they have mutual understandings with animals, especially ones that are so dangerous. I believe that I have an understanding with my rabbits, but I have been around them for so long that I can read them. Can you actually speak with them?"

Maybe he had something akin to cultivation powers?

And chase Little Rabbit did, bouncing after Amira happily.

"I wish I could, but no. I can't. I can just empathize with them and anticipate what they want and what they mean. I'm not always right, and I've been scratched by them before. But I do my best."

Amira leapt back into the planter next to Trowa, her paws kicking dirt out onto his lap as she used his knee for a springboard to get back into the strawberry plants.

"Hmm... still very impressive. I don't know that I am as good with my rabbits except for years of being around them."

WangJi watched the antics of the small cat and the rabbit chasing after her. The rabbit probably could have overtaken her since they were good at distance travel, but Little Rabbit seemed to be holding back so he didn't, making it more fun. But he followed the same path, however not needing to use Trowa as a springboard to get anywhere. WangJi made a faint sound that might have been a chuckle watching it.

But then, Little Rabbit got distracted by strawberry plants. Ooooo! He sat up on his hind legs to sniff them.

"Little one, you do not need to eat other people's plants."

He knew the rabbit hadn't tried yet... but still going to let him know that.

"I'm sure that you will be able to have a similar connection with Little Rabbit." Trowa smiled at WangJi, having complete faith in the other man.

When the bunny got distracted by the strawberry plants, he chuckled a little. "I don't think Miss Persephone will mind much. I ate a few and chatted with her the day she planted them. She has some sort of power that allowed her to make them grow completely from a seed to bearing ripe fruit just by holding her hand over them. They are very tasty, but would likely stain Little Rabbit's fur."

"Yes. I just need some time to get to know him better."

Little Rabbit seemed to be considering eating part of the plant but decided better of it, especially when WangJi fished out his qiankun pouch and pulled out some parsley. The rabbit immediately bounced over for the snack, munching on his snack with the faint clucking of a happy rabbit.

"That is an impressive ability. And they are safe for rabbits to eat? We did not have such things back home so I am not aware if they are."
