POP, POPPOPPOP...

As announced by Romeo earlier that day, the cinema car has been prepared for a night of anime sports. There isn't much different at first glance, but by first whiff, those who recognise the smell of freshly popped popcorn may detect the new addition to the carriage before they see it set up on a table by the back wall.

There's a soft whirring with the faint pop, poppoppop of the corn kernels, which thankfully isn't that intrusive to the ears as most popcorn machines. Salt and sugar shakers sit next to bowls for people to take and dish out their own popcorn, as well as bottles of cinnamon and mixed (sweet) spice. Also, there's even paprika and hot chilli bottles right next to each other. Who put those there? Please shake sparingly. Or don't. It's your tastebuds on the line.

Jugs of juice from the kitchen have been set out with plastic cups for those looking for a drink, as well as a simple collection of chocolate chip cookies. There may or may not be enough for all, but probably not.

The entertainment won't start right away, so take this time to chat with one another!

BORN TO REVIEW

For this 'sports night', 4 episodes of an anime called Born To Blitz are being played, a comedy movie called Swing-It Like Seccam, and to finish it off, a sports-themed mystery of the beloved franchise Magical Detective Heartlines!

Born To Blitz is your standard sports highschool anime, but with a diverse extraterrestrial species and set on a 'coastal city' where all the buildings are domes. It's quick to lay out the story of its hero, Fax Qincan, who is trying out for the school's competitive blitzball team so that he can get a reputation and one day be a real blitzball professional. He gets a spot by the second episode (unfortunately, beating out his best friend for a place on the team), and now he must start his vigorous training before the school competitions start!

The live-action Swing-It Like Seccam is a similar deal, if less intense and offering more laughs! Follow Arla as she inspires to become a professional ping-pong player like her hero Seccam, but also as she has to deal with a disapproving family who don't take her dreams seriously. Touching towards the end, it can be confusing now and then due to a lot of pop culture references popular in Miyoon in the year 6k20nb.

And last but not least is Magical Detective Heartlines: Goal In Life, an anime movie of the beloved Heartlines as she solves her latest case in all her 80s style anime glory! Famous hoverball player--a sports played on hoverbikes that also bash around the animated balls into goals--Missie is being threatened to throw in their biggest game yet, or risk the life of their snatched beloved! It's up to Heartlines to find the culprit--but can she do it before the end of the match?

Of course she does, but not without suspense and the game being stretched out at the risk of Misse's life as well! And with a bop of a soundtrack, and plenty of glittery sequences. And let's not forget the magical girl transformation scenes. Romeo will show you the moves.

And with that, the Sports Night is over with, and what you do is ultimately up to you. Talk about the selection? Something else? Are you the sort of person who can't imagine leaving a mess, or are you rushing off with familiar faces?

Or maybe it'll be nice to go for a watch to stretch your legs, even get a drink. It's late, but the coffee and tea machines are what, only twenty-five carriages away, surely.

Just remember not to stay up too late! Got to avoid the void sickness.

( OOC: It's a fun little mingle! Have your characters bring their own food and snacks, cause some mischief, complain or be too loud. :) There will be small breaks between each showing and the blitz anime will be the same length as the movies altogether (so about 20 mins a piece).

This is likely the last place he wants to be, but Kaiba has a job to do here. He's dressed in his casual outfit from Kumoko, blue tunic and black slacks, silver scarf tucked behind his back, and settling awkwardly into a seat.

He adds a little kick to his popcorn and settles down, inclining his head at their hosts.

"Evening."

Watching these characters pour their souls into their sport is...something else. The passion! The drama! Everything riding on the last goal! It's exhausting. And familiar too.

"...do I really sound like that when I duel?"

Every time Tidus is around Romeo is a reminder that younger kids might think to call him mister....

[ Popcorn hand out! ]

But enough about feeling incredibly old at 17 (nearly 18!!!) There's a popcorn machine rattling with away with treats, and before the real start of the show, Tidus is there to hand out the small bowls of popcorn, but not without nodding his head to the flavours:

"What's your taste? Plain, sugar or salt? Sorry, couldn't drag the butter down--we didn't know how to keep it melted down here!"

And Tidus isn't going all the way to the kitchen from the cinema car, ok....

Unfortunately for anyone next to him, Tidus is the commentary extra on your DVD, though he knows to mostly keep his voice down. For Born To Blitz he's a total critic of the moves made, scoffing as he remarks, "There's no way you'd get a foul for kicking the other team in the face! That's part of the game!", but also conceding during a slow-mo dramatic shoot for the goal, "Okay, yeah, it does feel like that...man...."

And of course he's here to chat to the other people after every movie, asking, "So, what did you think?" conversationally. And as for his feelings on any particular movie and the four anime episodes...

Born To Blitz: "It's not as fun to watch to as the real thing, but it's alright. But the moves are good, right? And seeing people moving in water? What do you think about the sports?"

Swing-It Like Seccam: "I can't believe cheesy comedies like that exist on more worlds. What's wrong with ping-pong anyway?"

Magical Detective Heartlines: Goal In Life: "It's way too sparkly for me. ...but okay, I'm gonna have some of the tunes stuck in my head."

But after Magical Detective Heartlines: Goal In Life is done, nodding to people and asking the polite, "Hey, you enjoy yourself?", but requesting sometimes, "Say night to Romeo before you leave--he was really looking forward to this."

Also, it's nice. Be nice to the kid.

Well aren't we looking flashy for a movie night? Not that Tidus is judging, he doesn't care, already chewing away on popcorn and with a piece in his mouth before regarding Kaiba.

"'Sup! Took the night off from card duelling? That case in the games room is packed by the way. I took a look the other day. How're you supposed to pick a deck with that many?"

Nita hadn't planned on staying the whole night - at least partly because she'd planned instead on camping out in her cabin, in case people were submitting nominations by hand - but the Blitzball anime had been oddly captivating.

And, at least in portraying alien high school, way too familiar.

"... Maybe. I've only got the one time to draw from, though."

Nita gives Kaiba just a bit of side-eye, trying to let her smile show as little as possible.

Popcorn hand-out!

"I can have a word with the butter, if you want. I can keep it preserved at the right temperature, too."

And, so as not to hold up the line...

"Uh, sugar, please."

"Hello sir!" He gets a huge grin off Romeo who is practically bouncing everywhere in excitement.

"Are you excited?"

"Now that we have two more duelists here, we're going to work on assembling starter decks. But if you're really interested in a live competition, you'll want to be here tomorrow morning to watch the Pokémon battle."

He finally gets comfortable before turning to more fully regard the blond.

"I'll stay for the show, but I'm actually here to inform you that you've been nominated for the train council. Do you accept?"

"There's no such thing as too sparkly!" He has never found anything that is too sparkly. Sparkly things are fun!

"Look look! She's going to transform! We gotta do the twirl!"

Clearly whoever introduced this child to cinema never quite got through to him that cinema viewings are meant to be quiet.

"If you see a scruffy blond guy with a pastel pony come in, don't tell him that."

Kaiba sighs and resigns himself to his fate. "Enjoying the show?"

"I'm...interested," he says diplomatically. "I've never seen most of these games before, and I considered myself an expert on the topic."

He might have to take notes, but his games usually aren't so physical.

"And there's no need to call me sir. Kaiba's fine."

Screw the line--

"A word? With the butter?"

...

"Can you stick your hand in a portal and grab it from the kitchen?"

He's actually kinda serious in asking that. Because. This is the train. This is real life now.

Being quiet during a movie? Pfffttt, that's for dweebs! Wait, no, that's not the important to focus on--

"Wha-- I'm not twirling, you've gotta twirl! You're the Master Detective here!"

also no he can't twirl, he's not emotionally strong enough!

"... That one of the new people, then? From your world?"

Or. A variation of it. Multiverses could get weird.

Meanwhile, Nita nods.

"For what it's worth, at least. I'm more of a baseball-watcher, myself, though."

[unfavorableinstigation]

"Haven't done just my hand on the train before, but I can teleport myself there and back, no problem."

She would just be too tired to speak through the first few episodes of Born to Blitz, it's fine!

... She's also not mentioning what it would cost her cumulatively, because Tidus sounds genuinely interested and she doesn't want to spoil the fun this night.

Pokémon? He's about to ask when Kaiba regards him more, and any question about what that word was meant to be leaves Tidus's mouth and brain with the news, simple curiosity morphing to bewilderment.

And then he scoffs, an eyebrow raising up as it becomes more incredulous.

"Why? Whose idea was that?"

Who the what??

[blitzcheer]

...You know what--

"Okay!" He'd wave his hands out if he wasn't holding a bowl of popcorn right now, but the baffled acceptance is there in tone. "Sure, great! You want some when you get back?"

He'll grab the sugar for her, for now!

[blue_ice]

"You're not on the council yet, I'm only asking if you want your name to be on the ballot. You'd be one of six people so far nominated for the two slots."

He was surprised by this himself, but careful not to show it.

"I believe the nominator wanted to be anonymous, but they said you're an effective leader. And from what little I've seen, you've thrown yourself into helping the community, so I'm not inclined to doubt them."

[blue_ice]

"Katsuya Jonouchi. Blue team, uniquely obnoxious, Yugi's best friend."

Which means he has to try to play nice.

"Hm...baseball, really?"

It's a popular sport in his country, but he's never been into it really.

His brows knot as he listens to Kaiba, and then after; thinking, clearly, if with some reservations by the less than optimistic expression he wears. But Tidus doesn't voice whatever he's thinking, asking instead:

"I get some time to think about it?"

Nita nods, giving Tidus a thumbs up.

"Be back in a few!"

Because collecting butter can't be instantaneous, alas.

She runs off to the corner by the stairs, there's a soft pop... and she's gone.

There's another pop a couple minutes later, and she does indeed return with the proper container for melted butter, as well as the butter itself.

She's breathing more deeply than she was earlier, too.

"Where you want me to set this up, Tidus?"

"And with a technicolor pony."

Nita says that aloud, but is mostly noting that for herself.

"Yugi certainly does have a lot of friends... I think Eva said she was going to have a Pokemon battle with him tomorrow, too."

She shrugs. "Family passtime, really. It's not like I've played."

In her head, the peridexis coughs distinctly, to which Nita just rolls her eyes.

..........she just disappeared that's amazing.

But you have to wonder if she's coming back, or a guy not used to people popping in and out like that does. Not because he doesn't trust her, but because--she was there! And now she's gone! And at least there's popcorn to distract him until her return, an astonished look ready to meet her.

Tidus puts aside the new bowl he's holding, going over and offering with his hands to take the container and butter from her.

"Here, lemme take that! You wanna take a seat? There--" He motions to the nearby seating, really not wanting to take no for an answer. "We can sort the butter out in a sec, you sound like you ran the way back. But thanks!"

Because she practically went all the way to the other side of the train and got butter and she deserves a thanks.

"Sure. The vote's not for a few days. I'll let you know the morning of."

He settles in with a faint smile.

"So what do you have in store for us today?"

[blitzcheer]

It's strange to go from that news to back to the gathering, like he's been somehow settled out of place. Which the news was, really, but Tidus tries not to let it distract him as he answers.

"This is all Romeo, really. I told him the first thing we're watching's based on the game I played back home, and we got talking about popcorn and his favourite series." That brings the fondness back to his voice. "The episodes won't be long, and then you've got the movies. Born To Blitz's blitzball, Swing-It Like Seccam's ping-pong, and Magical Heartline has somethin' called hoverball. You know your sports?"

"Usual spell pricing; I'll recoup in a little bit," Nita wheezes, attempting to be reassuring and not drop anything at the same time. Fortunately for them both (and the other cinema-goers), she succeeds!

She leans back against the back wall once everything's been handed over, rather than letting herself collapse into a seat just yet.

"If I sit, I don't know if I'll get up again!"

She's half-joking, but getting a smile from him would be good right about now.
