Movie Night!

What: Sports anime movie night with popcorn!
Warnings: There shouldn't be! But I will add if anything comes up

POP, POPPOPPOP...

As announced by Romeo earlier that day, the cinema car has been prepared for a night of anime sports. There isn't much different at first glance, but by first whiff, those who recognise the smell of freshly popped popcorn may detect the new addition to the carriage before they see it set up on a table by the back wall.

There's a soft whirring with the faint pop, poppoppop of the corn kernels, which thankfully isn't that intrusive to the ears as most popcorn machines. Salt and sugar shakers sit next to bowls for people to take and dish out their own popcorn, as well as bottles of cinnamon and mixed (sweet) spice. Also, there's even paprika and hot chilli bottles right next to each other. Who put those there? Please shake sparingly. Or don't. It's your tastebuds on the line.

Jugs of juice from the kitchen have been set out with plastic cups for those looking for a drink, as well as a simple collection of chocolate chip cookies. There may or may not be enough for all, but probably not.

The entertainment won't start right away, so take this time to chat with one another!

BORN TO REVIEW

For this 'sports night', 4 episodes of an anime called Born To Blitz are being played, a comedy movie called Swing-It Like Seccam, and to finish it off, a sports-themed mystery of the beloved franchise Magical Detective Heartlines!

Born To Blitz is your standard sports highschool anime, but with a diverse extraterrestrial species and set on a 'coastal city' where all the buildings are domes. It's quick to lay out the story of its hero, Fax Qincan, who is trying out for the school's competitive blitzball team so that he can get a reputation and one day be a real blitzball professional. He gets a spot by the second episode (unfortunately, beating out his best friend for a place on the team), and now he must start his vigorous training before the school competitions start!

The live-action Swing-It Like Seccam is a similar deal, if less intense and offering more laughs! Follow Arla as she inspires to become a professional ping-pong player like her hero Seccam, but also as she has to deal with a disapproving family who don't take her dreams seriously. Touching towards the end, it can be confusing now and then due to a lot of pop culture references popular in Miyoon in the year 6k20nb.

And last but not least is Magical Detective Heartlines: Goal In Life, an anime movie of the beloved Heartlines as she solves her latest case in all her 80s style anime glory! Famous hoverball player--a sports played on hoverbikes that also bash around the animated balls into goals--Missie is being threatened to throw in their biggest game yet, or risk the life of their snatched beloved! It's up to Heartlines to find the culprit--but can she do it before the end of the match?

Of course she does, but not without suspense and the game being stretched out at the risk of Misse's life as well! And with a bop of a soundtrack, and plenty of glittery sequences. And let's not forget the magical girl transformation scenes. Romeo will show you the moves.

And with that, the Sports Night is over with, and what you do is ultimately up to you. Talk about the selection? Something else? Are you the sort of person who can't imagine leaving a mess, or are you rushing off with familiar faces?

Or maybe it'll be nice to go for a watch to stretch your legs, even get a drink. It's late, but the coffee and tea machines are what, only twenty-five carriages away, surely.

Just remember not to stay up too late! Got to avoid the void sickness.

( OOC: It's a fun little mingle! Have your characters bring their own food and snacks, cause some mischief, complain or be too loud. :) There will be small breaks between each showing and the blitz anime will be the same length as the movies altogether (so about 20 mins a piece).

Nita nods, giving Tidus a thumbs up.

"Be back in a few!"

Because collecting butter can't be instantaneous, alas.

She runs off to the corner by the stairs, there's a soft pop... and she's gone.

There's another pop a couple minutes later, and she does indeed return with the proper container for melted butter, as well as the butter itself.

She's breathing more deeply than she was earlier, too.

"Where you want me to set this up, Tidus?"

..........she just disappeared that's amazing.

But you have to wonder if she's coming back, or a guy not used to people popping in and out like that does. Not because he doesn't trust her, but because--she was there! And now she's gone! And at least there's popcorn to distract him until her return, an astonished look ready to meet her.

Tidus puts aside the new bowl he's holding, going over and offering with his hands to take the container and butter from her.

"Here, lemme take that! You wanna take a seat? There--" He motions to the nearby seating, really not wanting to take no for an answer. "We can sort the butter out in a sec, you sound like you ran the way back. But thanks!"

Because she practically went all the way to the other side of the train and got butter and she deserves a thanks.

"Usual spell pricing; I'll recoup in a little bit," Nita wheezes, attempting to be reassuring and not drop anything at the same time. Fortunately for them both (and the other cinema-goers), she succeeds!

She leans back against the back wall once everything's been handed over, rather than letting herself collapse into a seat just yet.

"If I sit, I don't know if I'll get up again!"

She's half-joking, but getting a smile from him would be good right about now.

"I don't know if the butter was worth you collapsing from exhaustion, you know!"

There's a playfulness to his chiding, since he's not going to take her state too seriously, but it's clear that is exhausted to some state. Still, he's appreciative, and with the butter and container in his hands, he's peering at them both.

"Mmm, maybe I can make a small fire...? Fire magic's been a work in progress," he admits sheepishly, the reason why he hadn't risk evaporating it before. But, he's half-tempted now...

Nita rolls her eyes, bemused, letting her strength return.

"Depends. Do we have sprinklers in here?"

Is she buying time to regain her strength? Probably.

Is she also just teasing him for fun? Yes.

Wow?

"You testing me?" Challenged voice go, and Tidus raises his left hand holding the butter. "We can find out right now!"

If there's sprinklers or if he can ruin the butter? Nita can decide.

That's enough to bring Nita back to full attention, even if she isn't quite stable on her feet yet.

"Hey! You sure that's a good idea? Not exactly planning on making a repeat trip so soon, you know!"

[blitzcheer]

His hand begins to glow, tiny lights the colours of a aurora borealis dancing off like wisps.

"Time to see--" he extends his arm out, the colours turning gold "--what happens!"

And what happens is the lights shoot off like tiny fireworks, even bursting at the end. But they're harmless, nothing but a show, no real elemental power to them.

A broad grin stretches across Tidus's face, and the lightshow ends.

Heeeeeh.

That was... something?

Nita unconsciously relaxes her shoulders, moving to lean back against the wall and trying not to be too embarrassed.

"Congrats, we're all still dry."

[blitzcheer]

He blinks, the smile still on his face, though it eases--it can't do otherwise--when he lets out a small and surprised laugh.

"What, you thought I was going to?" He waves that once magical hand, now devoid of any fancies, laughs a little brighter. "No way, no way! That's why I didn't bother tryin' earlier! I'd blow up the butter and popcorn before doing anything useful!"

Not that she could know that part, but still! Thinking he's so uncivilised, Nita!

"You sure had the look of someone who enjoys explosions," Nita mutters - but she's smiling now as well. More teasing!

"You going to let me finish having my breather, then, so we can get this popcorn-party started?"

[blitzcheer]

Oh. That gets her a look that calls her cheeky without saying it, but one absolutely humoured, before Tidus takes a step back to the popcorn machine and table.

"Sure," he agrees, but then adds with a narrow eye on her, the corners of his mouth still pointed upwards, "but you look like the kind of person who likes knowing how to make explosions."

Because like he's going to miss out on returning some cheek!

The fact that Tidus is right does not stop Nita from snorting in affected disdain.

"The only explosions I'm after right now are flavor explosions, thank you very much."

Unless there's explosions in Blitzball; she has no idea.

Expression calming, she asks, "You do still have the sugar I asked for, right?"

Don't think those words right now got lost on him, Nita. Tidus is happy nonetheless, picking up a bowl and 'behaving' as he answers, "'Course--one serving of popcorn with the Especially Reserved Sugar for the Butter Whisperer Miss Nita coming up!"

Tidus scoots the sugar shaker right there just for a proper show, raising his eyebrows at her for added effect, before opening up the door at the bottom of the machine to scoop out some of the warmly kept snack. Turning back to Nita with the fresh bowl and the shaker (and yes, the sugar was put in a shaker usually meant for salt or pepper) and holding them in each, with the shaker held near and over the bowl.

"You wanna tell me when to stop shaking?"

Yes, this is him behaving.

She can save it for missions, Tidus; who knows, you may even get to see some!

Nita suppresses a fair bout of snickers, but for the most part she lets him prepare the popcorn in peace.

"You're halfway there."

Is she a sugar nut? Maybe.

[blitzcheer]

And he's shaking-shaking-shaking...!

"If we run out," he warns, "I'm not the one who's going to refill it."

It's a lie, and she might even see there's a second jar. Or is that the salt?

"We're not making Romeo do it," Nita retorts.

Letting this go on a few seconds more-

"And stop. Now, here, I should be ready to get that butter set by now..."

If Tidus lets her.

[blitzcheer]

He's switching a measuring eye between the sugar and the bowl, moving each for a better look.

"And how much of the butter are we gonna pour in?" he asks incredulously, but teasingly so, putting down the sugar and sitting the butter in the container brought with it, though pausing before he holds it out.

"You're sure you're ready? The butter can't argue with you, can it?"

He may be delaying just a tinsy bit for her benefit, but he'll hand it over if she signals for it.

"I'll save it for a second bowl," Nita deadpans, before taking the plate.

A few soft, coaxing words in the Speech later, and the butter is no longer solid but liquid, and at the perfect temperature for popcorn-pouring.

"It's not nearly as energy-intensive as two teleports back-to-back, I'll tell you that," she assures.

"Lemme know when you need another; I bet that'll be empty before the preservation part of things times out."

Let alone before she finishes her own popcorn!

Wow- he'd tease her more, but with the warm, liquid putter in its container, Tidus decides to take the time instead to be impressed by what he sees, wondering if it'll cool off before long. ...if anyone will let there be any left to be cooled off.

"Thanks! If we need any more, I can go get some--I won't be as quick, but I can make myself move faster if I need it."

And should he do that now? He's looking out for where Romeo is, but quickly looks back at Nita and pulls an appreciative smile.

"But you know, we probably don't need to worry. We don't know who'll come--and we just put this together for a little fun. Help give the newbies and everyone else something to do with themselves. And Romeo really wanted to share popcorn with everyone."

Sometimes the best battles are left unfought.

Nita hugs her sugar-popcorn close, giving Tidus a thumbs-up with her free hand.

"We can always use events like this around here," she agrees.

"And there's never a bad time for popcorn, either!"

"Well you take a seat and get comfortable. We'll get started in about five or ten minutes."

Unless Tidus goes for that literal butter run, then longer. But for now he was willing to make do with what they have.

"The only mystery tonight is the one in Romeo's pick--the Magical Detective Heartlines! Leave your train headaches at the door."

"Here's to hoping!"

She could use a night without headaches...

"See you in a bit."
