Who: Ichigo and You!
What: The blood drive
Where: Recovery rooms 2 and 3

Now that the fridge was cold, and he had all the kits, Ichigo could get started. He put out a notice for all the people who had agreed to donate, and was ready to go. He was going to use the middle two recovery rooms, since 1 and 4 were in the process of being painted. He had plenty of gloves so he could keep everything sterile, and even had stocked up on water and some snacks.

"Hello mister Ichigo!"

Romeo waved at him as he skipped to the medical carriages, he didn't look worried at all. He's not worried because Ichigo had told him how he went to school to be a doctor and already had a certificate to take peoples blood.

"Romeo-kun, hey there." Waving back, Ichigo checked both his rooms. "I hope you don't mind waiting a few minutes for your donation, I have both the beds full at the moment. Since Glorfindel-san and Rapunzel-san are painting the other two."

"I don't mind sir!"

They were painting the rooms? Romeo waited in the corridor like he had been asked though he did peek into the other rooms, wondering why they were painting.

After a few minutes, Ichigo called for Romeo. "Alright, it's your turn. Come on in." Room two had opened up, so he invited the young man inside. "Hop up on the bed and get comfortable on your back, please."

Romeo had waited patiently and now he skipped into the room with a smile, clambering up onto the bed and lying down on his back as he was asked.

"Will I fall asleep when you do this mister Ichigo?"

Because why was he lying down, if not to sleep?

"No, I definitely don't want you to fall asleep." Grabbing the blood pressure cuff, Ichigo got ready to put it on Romeo's arm. "First, I'm going to check your blood pressure to make sure it's high enough for you to give blood." Since the boy was so small, he was thinking he'd only take a partial bag.

"Oh okay!" He's not sure what blood pressure was but he held his arm out obediently as Ichigo put the cuff around his arm and started to inflate it, it felt weird but he trusted Ichigo, he was doing this to help people.

For Ichigo it would be strange, as he released the cuff, for the blood pressure monitor didn't move, didn't register any pressure at all.

Seeing that the cuff didn't move, Ichigo took it off of Romeo and gave the boy a look. "So this is going to sound odd, but do you have blood, Romeo-kun?"

"Um. I think so mister Ichigo." He blinked at him. "Did it not work?"

He sounds a bit confused.

Holding up the blood pressure cuff, Ichigo showed Romeo the gauge on it. "You see this dial? When the cuff was tight on your arm, the needle should have moved up from zero. It's how I measure the amount of pressure your blood is under to push it through your veins. When I had it on your arm, the needle didn't move. Now, I know this cuff works, because I've been using it on others all day without fail. Have you ever had a cut that has bled?"

He peered at the dial, nodding as Ichigo explained how the needle was supposed to move up from zero.

He shook his head, "I got some scrapes before but never hurt myself bad! How does the blood go under pressure? What are veins? How does it go round them?"

He has a lot of questions.

"Well, it all starts with your heart. When your heart beats, it pumps blood through your veins, which carry the blood everywhere in your body. Your blood is also what carries oxygen from your lungs so the other cells in your body can get that oxygen and use it to survive." Ichigo rolled up his sleeve and showed Romeo the pale lines of veins on the inside of his wrist. "In some spots, your skin is thin enough to see the veins, like mine right here. The beating of your heart is what creates the pressure to make your blood move. Like how you can blow air through a straw and make bubbles in a drink."

Oh...

Well that explained it. Romeo listened with fascination, the heart pumped blood and took it everywhere and also took oxygen everywhere when you breathed. The blood wasn't just in your body but was in straws that you could see, he peered at Ichigo's veins and then looked a bit sheepish.

"Sorry sir. I should of asked more questions before. I guess you can't get my blood pressure to work because I don't got a heart beat, so my heart can't push the blood and oxygen through the straws, veins, so I guess it won't work..."

"Ah, well then that makes sense." Ichigo smiled warmly and ruffled Romeo's hair gently. "No need to apologize at all, Romeo-kun. Would you still like a muffin?" There was nothing wrong with not having blood pumping through his veins.

Oh he was glad that Ichigo didn't seem mad that he couldn't have Romeo's blood. He smiled at the hair ruffle and then nodded.

"I would sir, if that's okay?"

He was never going to say no to food.

Reaching for the muffin basket on the counter, Ichigo grabbed one and gave it to Romeo. "It's absolutely okay. Enjoy your day, Romeo-kun."

"Thank you sir!" He smiled, "I hope you get lots of blood from people whose hearts can make pressure!"

He's a little sad he can't help but the muffin helps keep his spirits up.

"I hope so, too, Romeo-kun. You have a great rest of your day, alright?" He patted the boy's shoulder before getting up to head out of the room. He had a different patient to check on.

Romeo smiled at him and then hopped down to leave the room, so Ichigo could use it for the next person.
