A New Platform [Intro Post November]

On the Train

The morning after the Halloween party passengers are once again woken by a familiar voice.

"Good morning passengers, it is day one of the month of Imagination. Points have been updated on the system and new stock is available."

They have indeed and everyone can spend the morning shopping. Those who have been on the train a while will be expecting the second announcement that comes a few hours later.

"Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one." A lurch and a jolt and they are soon surrounded by the fog that means they are at a platform. But through the fog comes sunshine, causing patches where the light shines down to warm the concrete. Looking up passengers will not be able to see the sun through the fog, or much of the sky at all.

As usual the first to leave the train notice nothing as they walk silently, rucksacks on their backs, towards the barriers. Bryn Pendragon, Bucky Barnes, Colden Rollins, Elena, Fai D Flourite, Jiang Yanli, Juliette d'Aubigniy, Misa, Peter Parker, Samata Mahto, Satou Kuroneko, The Doctor, Tohru Mutou, Zuko, 10 Vigilant Gaze Purges The Horizon. They all walk silently and do not look back as they disappear through the barriers and into the fog beyond.

But on the platform itself there are new faces. Wearing hoodies in all four colours in various states of confusion.

For New Passengers

At first all they can see is steam. Billowing around them as they come to their senses. The second thing they will notice is the thick fog, penetrated by beams of light. As their eyes adjust they will see they are on a platform, behind them are a set of barriers and in front of them is a single track.

They are standing, in clothes that are not their own, styles they might not even recognise. They are carrying a rucksack on their back. For a moment it seems to just be them, alone in the white haze but then the steam begins to fade and they realise they aren’t alone.

The platform is not large and it holds five figures all facing the tracks, all dressed in cargo trousers and hoodies. Both left and right the tracks disappear into the mist. Then there is a roaring sound and out of the fog arrives a train. Jet black with gold writing on the side. The Voidtrecker Express. There is a hiss as the doors slide open and out into the gloom step a selection of people. Some are human, some are less so. Most are wearing the same hoodie in one of the four colours, red, orange, blue and purple though some are sporting different clothes in a variety of styles.

The Train

The doors hiss open. Those from the train may encourage those on the platform to board. It’s not like there is anywhere else to go and even if there was, you feel a pull. A need to board, a feeling that staying on the platform would not be a good thing. If that is not enough, there are plenty of people on the platform now, to encourage them onto the train.

Each ICP shows the same message and next to the screens there are stacks of leaflets written by those on the train, with further information. The store rooms have been restocked and Honey is the newest ingredient, jars of honey stock the shelves and the ICP's in the kitchen have recipe ideas for the month.

A new carriage has been added, those that go to investigate will find a small but function-able spa, complete with a small hot tub and even a steam room. It is a relaxing room with sun lamps and relaxing music or nature sounds available through the ICP. There are a couple of massage tables, with a course for how to give massages for those eager to learn.

New passengers will find their tickets allow them into their cabins. They may need to negotiate for beds, especially if they want a top bunk!

Room is tight but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches and you will hopefully find a pillow for your bed if it has not been nabbed by a roommate, there are also spare blankets for if it gets cold.

Departure

A second horn sounds to encourage any stragglers braving the snow and the doors slide shut. Veteran passengers know what will happen next, they may wish to brief their new companions.

The train sets off, the fog obscuring the view as it picks up speed.

"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express." A female-coded artificial sounding voice echoes throughout the train. "Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."

The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog filled sky.

"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated. Entry into Voidspace in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."

A shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding. As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever changing colours.

Welcome to the Void!

"Eh, probably back behind the wall with all the other stuff we're not allowed to touch. Weird, right? Its almost like someone doesn't trust us to drive the interdimensional void train."

Danny had been trying to take a nap in the back of the standard car, but he was always up for meeting new passengers.

Inter-dimensional, huh? Koumyou paused near Danny's nap seat of choice. He folded his hands into the front pocket of his weird sweater, in lieu of his usual long, billowing sleeves.

"Just as well, I don't have my driver's license!"

"You know? Suddenly I'm kind of hoping that whoever's driving this thing has whatever the equivalent of driver's licenses are for void trains."

Although considering that Danny had driven a blimp, jet, space shuttle, RV and a number of weirder vehicles... and he still didn't even have a learner's permit? He didn't really have much room to talk.

Vehicles in general were extraordinarily rare in the part of the world Koumyou was from. At least, anything more technological than an animal-drawn wagon.

They existed, just not generally within Shangri-La.

"Well, let's hope so! Otherwise it would be awfully embarrassing if we got pulled over."

"Well, technically we're all fugitives from the law here. Despite being kidnapped into being here at all." A shrug. "I don't know, the whole thing was weird, and I wasn't really paying attention."
its_dad_sanzo: (you don't say)

[personal profile] its_dad_sanzo 2020-11-02 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Is that so? I've never been a fugitive before, how exciting!"

Not exactly the standard reaction to this whole 'surprise, now you live in a train' situation, was it?

"Is the train stolen? That could explain the lack of choo choo -- maybe they had to cut that wire to hijack it!"

[personal profile] schrodingersghost 2020-11-07 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Eh, not that I heard? I think we've technically gone rogue or something. Despite, you know, none of us actually being there at the time."
its_dad_sanzo: (:()

[personal profile] its_dad_sanzo 2020-11-07 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, that's not nearly as exciting," Koumyou pouted, "but I suppose it will do.. being a fugitive at all is at least something!"

Silver lining!

"Gone rogue from what, though?"
schrodingersghost: (Fenton - Annoyed)

[personal profile] schrodingersghost 2020-11-07 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"No clue?" Danny shrugs. "But hey, its not like being a fugitive for reasons no one will tell me is anything new. I bet its something super dumb."
its_dad_sanzo: (suspicious)

[personal profile] its_dad_sanzo 2020-11-08 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
"You've been a fugitive before this?" The priest, of course, wasn't exactly alarmed-- "My, my... hey, any tips to give to a newbie?"

Danny points back at himself with his thumb.

"Former public ghost enemy #1," says the definitely alive human boy. "For like, a weekend. Also it's technically illegal to be a ghost with my power level living in the human world. According to the government morons in white, anyway."

A shrug. "Ignore the idiots and get on with whatever you need to do? That always worked for me."
its_dad_sanzo: (what?)

[personal profile] its_dad_sanzo 2020-11-08 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
"You're a ghost?"

Hi, hello, suddenly Danny had even more of Koumyou's attention.

"Am I a ghost?" And, lest anyone think he was taking this as seriously as he actually was, "--Is everyone here ghosts?"
schrodingersghost: (Fenton - Looking Away)

[personal profile] schrodingersghost 2020-11-08 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Half-ghost, technically." Danny sighs, well used to giving this explanation by now. "There was an accident back home.... and I kind of got stuck in between."

He gives the guy a confused look. "Uh, no? There have been a few other ghosts here, and some others that are just weird like me. But most of the passengers aren't. And, uh, you don't feel like a ghost to me?"
its_dad_sanzo: (whoopsies)

[personal profile] its_dad_sanzo 2020-11-08 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I definitely died, you see," Koumyou was very cheerful about it, because of course. "And then I woke up! Apparently alive again? In this thick, weird fog? So you can see why I'd wonder."

Perfectly natural thing to wonder, given the givens.

"...So you're half dead?"

"...Huh. It seems like that kind of thing happens a lot around here. So, uh, congrats on the second life here?"

A shrug. "I try not to think too hard about that part. But yes? Probably?"
its_dad_sanzo: (dish that GOSS)

[personal profile] its_dad_sanzo 2020-11-08 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
It was a large part of why Koumyou was so... well, like he was. Not that he'd acted much more serious before his death, but the deficit of fucks was even more genuine now. What was a little more nihilism sprinkled onto the mess of it already inside the priest's head?

He was dead, his precious son was going to have to face down a living hell without his help, and nothing fucking mattered! Party! Who cares!

"Well! Let's talk about being outlaws, then, it's much more exciting. Do you think we're being actively sought after by some big, shadowy authority? Like something out of a book?"

[personal profile] schrodingersghost 2020-11-11 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
....That was a quick recovery. But okay. It wasn't like Danny had much room to talk when it came to terrible coping mechanisms.

"As long as no one is going to try and experiment on me, I don't really care? All we know is that we got a copy of a transmission from some government that said we were some kind of rogue. Which was apparently connected to the time we got boarded by some jerks in some kind of space armor who made us all let them check our tickets."

"Space cops or something, huh?" So they had gotten pulled over, sort of.

"Did they take anyone away?"

"They definitely had the brainless government goon act down." They hadn't made a very good impression on Danny.

"I think a few people asked to go with them to try and file reports? Or something." A snort. "Like that ever works."

"...I can't believe I missed that!"

Yes, that's his take-away here. But hey, what did he have to lose anyway? May as well troll some space cops.

...Everyone was probably lucky he'd missed that, actually.

"How long ago was it, anyway?"
