A New Platform [Intro Post November]
On the Train
The morning after the Halloween party passengers are once again woken by a familiar voice.
"Good morning passengers, it is day one of the month of Imagination. Points have been updated on the system and new stock is available."
They have indeed and everyone can spend the morning shopping. Those who have been on the train a while will be expecting the second announcement that comes a few hours later.
"Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one." A lurch and a jolt and they are soon surrounded by the fog that means they are at a platform. But through the fog comes sunshine, causing patches where the light shines down to warm the concrete. Looking up passengers will not be able to see the sun through the fog, or much of the sky at all.
As usual the first to leave the train notice nothing as they walk silently, rucksacks on their backs, towards the barriers. Bryn Pendragon, Bucky Barnes, Colden Rollins, Elena, Fai D Flourite, Jiang Yanli, Juliette d'Aubigniy, Misa, Peter Parker, Samata Mahto, Satou Kuroneko, The Doctor, Tohru Mutou, Zuko, 10 Vigilant Gaze Purges The Horizon. They all walk silently and do not look back as they disappear through the barriers and into the fog beyond.
But on the platform itself there are new faces. Wearing hoodies in all four colours in various states of confusion.
For New Passengers
At first all they can see is steam. Billowing around them as they come to their senses. The second thing they will notice is the thick fog, penetrated by beams of light. As their eyes adjust they will see they are on a platform, behind them are a set of barriers and in front of them is a single track.
They are standing, in clothes that are not their own, styles they might not even recognise. They are carrying a rucksack on their back. For a moment it seems to just be them, alone in the white haze but then the steam begins to fade and they realise they aren’t alone.
The platform is not large and it holds five figures all facing the tracks, all dressed in cargo trousers and hoodies. Both left and right the tracks disappear into the mist. Then there is a roaring sound and out of the fog arrives a train. Jet black with gold writing on the side. The Voidtrecker Express. There is a hiss as the doors slide open and out into the gloom step a selection of people. Some are human, some are less so. Most are wearing the same hoodie in one of the four colours, red, orange, blue and purple though some are sporting different clothes in a variety of styles.
The Train
The doors hiss open. Those from the train may encourage those on the platform to board. It’s not like there is anywhere else to go and even if there was, you feel a pull. A need to board, a feeling that staying on the platform would not be a good thing. If that is not enough, there are plenty of people on the platform now, to encourage them onto the train.
Each ICP shows the same message and next to the screens there are stacks of leaflets written by those on the train, with further information. The store rooms have been restocked and Honey is the newest ingredient, jars of honey stock the shelves and the ICP's in the kitchen have recipe ideas for the month.
A new carriage has been added, those that go to investigate will find a small but function-able spa, complete with a small hot tub and even a steam room. It is a relaxing room with sun lamps and relaxing music or nature sounds available through the ICP. There are a couple of massage tables, with a course for how to give massages for those eager to learn.
New passengers will find their tickets allow them into their cabins. They may need to negotiate for beds, especially if they want a top bunk!
Room is tight but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches and you will hopefully find a pillow for your bed if it has not been nabbed by a roommate, there are also spare blankets for if it gets cold.
Departure
A second horn sounds to encourage any stragglers braving the snow and the doors slide shut. Veteran passengers know what will happen next, they may wish to brief their new companions.
The train sets off, the fog obscuring the view as it picks up speed.
"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express." A female-coded artificial sounding voice echoes throughout the train. "Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."
The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog filled sky.
"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated. Entry into Voidspace in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."
A shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding. As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever changing colours.
Welcome to the Void!

Welcome to the Void!

Would you happen to know if the train has provided appropriate clothing for this car?
[The idea of getting into a pool fully clothed does not appeal.]
no subject
Got it!
[ The Wormtrecker Express shifts tracks and heads for the changing area instead. It picks up speed, too. Ken-chan loves the pool! They're going in the pool!
Oh, he's excited too. Maybe instead of walking, he should bounce forward, to cover more ground.
Boing. ]
no subject
[It is when they reach the changing area that Siebren hesitates.]
You go ahead. I will join you at the pool shortly.
no subject
All right.
I wonder if I float?
Let's see....
[ They will go try that out while Siebren prepares. He will find Wormmon floating on his back, legs curled up, and Ken....
This is the only situation where Ichijouji Ken will ever sprawl. ]
no subject
[He has changed.]
[He waits for Ken, then heads into the changing area himself, changing clothes and taking a few moments to steady his breathing and try to calm himself. It is...it will be fine. Ken is polite and Wormmon is innocent; both should be easily dissuaded should the conversation take a turn. It will be fine.]
[When he approaches the pool, two things are immediately noticeable. The first is that he is more fit than one would expect a man of his age and occupation to be. That may not be too much of a surprise; going into space requires a certain level of physical fitness, and getting back into that routine was something of a comfort when everything else had been so unstable.]
[The second is that he is scarred. One jagged scar traces over his ribs, and another arcs over his collarbone and shoulder just shy of his neck. A small cluster of puckered starburst scars are visible on his opposite shoulder, and another on his abdomen - bullet wounds, and the incisions required to remove them. Missions are violent; his armor is imperfect; and while Sigma is adept at keeping the enemy on the other side of his shields, every so often someone gets under his guard.]
[He wears Sigma's scars, whether he likes it or not, and it is impossible to keep them covered when he is wearing little else.]
[He approaches the pool as though absolutely nothing is wrong and lowers himself in.]
You certainly seem comfortable.
[The statement applies to the both of them.]
no subject
.....Oh. Ken feels slightly self-conscious about having been pushy, but he's willing to go with Siebren's level of comfort, so he smiles and sits up straighter, drawing his legs in. ]
Excuse me. I got carried away.
[ He doesn't want to take up more of his share of the pool!
--those aren't the kinds of scars that one would get from anything but combat, are they? Ken's permitting himself the leeway to study things that interest him in college, not just things that will be useful for his future, but he has a plan. The plan involves
having books in the apartment that Wormmon faints when he openslearning quite a bit of forensic science....Wormmon turns his head and also notices what Ken-chan has noticed. Because he faints every time he opens Ken-chan's crime books, he cannot draw the same conclusions. Instead, he just hopes Gabumon is ready to protect Yamato, because you apparently have to be REALLY TOUGH to go into SPACE! ]
no subject
[He does not intend to make his discomfort contagious; it is unfair to Ken, when Ken is only trying to share something he loves.]
[...but neither of them have said anything. Part of Siebren is relieved; the other is tense, still waiting, wanting to get the awkward conversation over with and move on-]
[But it is possible neither of them will say anything at all. Ken is polite, after all, and Wormmon is innocent. They may simply not mention it.]
[He sinks lower into the water and rests his back against the wall of the pool, trying to relax. He does not entirely succeed.]
no subject
But it also feels like something's expected of him.....should he speak up? He's starting to think he should.
Wormmon, meanwhile, has been thinking about how you get a body like that (muscles!!!! scars!!!) and has come to what he feels is a sensible conclusion about Siebren. He floats past, antennae streaming on the surface of the water. ]
You're a really brave person, huh?
no subject
[Wormmon's question takes him completely by surprise. He blinks and answers almost without thinking.]
Why do you say that?
[...well, that had been his opportunity to redirect the conversation, and instead he had opened the door to further questions. He has done this to himself, hasn't he.]
no subject
You have a lot of scars.
[ Ken doesn't quite tense, but he's more alert - and slightly confused. Where is Wormmon going with...? ]
People scar when something knocks them down and they get back up.
[ The people who don't get up don't heal. Wormmon grins and chortles. ]
Gyahuu. You've stood up a lot!
no subject
[But what happens next is...not what he expected: a comment not on physicality, but perseverance. Delivered by Wormmon, who is simple and straightforward and probably could not lie to save his life, and would likely question why there would be a need to lie, and-]
[It slips past his defenses, past parts of him carefully hidden from the outside world, and alights on something deep within him, shaking it loose.]
[He is scarred - not Sigma's scars, but his own, invisible to the eye, received when his life's work went horribly wrong and tore at his mind, formed when he slowly pieced it back together as best he could, and he is imperfect, and damaged, and-]
[People scar when something knocks them down and they get back up.]
[Alive.]
[He has survived. The worst is over - it must be over, he cannot imagine anything worse - and he is still here. He is broken - horribly, maybe irreparably so - but he is still standing. He has gotten back up.]
[And maybe...maybe there is something to be proud of, in that.]
[He had never thought of it in that way.]
[He blinks - a few times, a few more, a few too many - and closes his eyes, trying to steady his breathing and process this Wormmon-inspired paradigm shift. He takes a moment and opens his eyes again, seeking out Wormmon.]
...thank you.
[There is a waver in his voice, small but present nonetheless, that he does not like but cannot quite control; more evident is the gratitude in his tone. Evidently he had needed to hear that.]
no subject
Ehee.
[ Ken lowers his own eyes, wanting to give Siebren privacy to work through whatever he's working through, but he can't stop himself from smiling. He's so proud to have a partner like Wormmon. He's so glad that whatever Siebren's been through, he is indeed still standing. As long as you get back up, you have tomorrow. You're believing things have a chance to be better than they are.
Ken's belief came true. He hopes Siebren's will, too. ]
no subject
[He still needs a little time to steady his breathing, but it is easier now, with the soft contact and his regained ability to relax. After a moment, he reaches over and tickles Wormmon's belly with his fingertips, the smallest of smiles on his face.]
[Yes. This is better.]
no subject
He splashes, delighted. ] Kyahuh. Hahaha. Heee!! Ghaehehh!!
[ Ken looks like he could sit here, soaking and watching this, forever. ]
no subject
[This is nice.]
[Slowly, his smile widens, and he laughs - quietly, almost helplessly - as he continues to tickle Wormmon and get splashed in turn.]
[If Ken wanted to see Siebren relaxed, this is it.]
no subject
Instead, when Wormmon splooshes a particularly big wave out and even gets some drops in Ken-chan's bangs -
Ken starts to laugh, too. Pardon him interrupting your moment. He's just so happy! ]
no subject
[He is still smiling when he moves his hand, giving Wormmon a gentle bump that should send him floating back to Ken. Once Wormmon is clear, he takes a breath and sinks lower into the water, letting it out in a deeply contented sigh. It is not quite the full sprawl that Ken had had earlier, but he is certainly more relaxed than he had thought he would be.]
no subject
Except when he does, it's his turn to be an utter dweebus, as when he tips his head back, Wormmon slung like a towel on his shoulder (and very happy here), he lets out a sigh that turns into another little laugh when it trails off.
He can feel his blood vessels expanding already, counteracting the physical effects of stress.....!!! ]
HHhhhhu. Ehehhehuh.
