3 Kazoo - Adult Ballroom Social and Epic Kids' Game Night

What: The much-awaited-and-discussed Adult Ballroom Social (and children's side event)

You've seen the flyers. You've heard the announcements. You've ordered additional party reinforcements if you wanted them. Some of you have even helped her to prepare. And now it's finally here - the Adult Ballroom Social that she's been planning these many, many week-and-a-half.

But you wouldn't know it only took that long to throw it together. She's gone all out for this one. Including the wardrobe that's been opened up, there are four cars that have been set aside for tonight. The main ballroom floor is in the non-training gym, which has been cleared and decorated for the occasion. The music is being piped in from the music car, where it's still playing for those who would prefer a more intimate and private setting. Meanwhile, the game room has been set out for the kids who would otherwise be left out of this adult and near-adult event.

Mingling

When not actually out no the dance floor, Soldat just kind of loiters around uncertainly. They don't really like being looked at, and small talk is not their forte, but they love being around people. So here they are, in their fancy jacket, looking far more awkward over a glass of water than they had a moment ago twirling someone around to the music.

But still not unhappy. It's nice to be around people just chatting amongst themselves, just having a good time.

Raven has her own glass of water, as she approaches. Her usual cloak and cowl are around her shoulders, with the cowl down. But she most definitely is not dressed in the train uniform. She's even wearing a small pretty gold and blue goldstone bracelet on her wrist.

"You looked like you were having fun out there."

"I was," Soldat says, flashing her a quick little smile. "I love dancing. Used to do it all the time, back before. You know, this." They hold up the metal hand, wiggle the fingers with a buzz of gears. "You look nice, all dolled up."

"Thank you." Murmured a bit shyly, and she actually reached up to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. "I...wanted to try being social for once, and feeling pretty."

"That's good, that's a thing you should get to do whenever you want," Soldat says firmly. Then they grin and pluck lightly at their extremely soft jacket. "I was pretty excited to get to dress up in something nice, too. I wonder if we get to keep these."

"You do look handsome, all cleaned up." Raven teased a little, but was serious at the same time. "I don't think we do, although you might try keeping it anyways. Or ask the train."

They wrinkle their nose at her for the teasing compliment, but they're smiling anyway. "I'm not wasting points on a fancy outfit. Not right now. Maybe eventually, but I got knives and guns and memories to get back, first." They have a list, and they have the discipline to keep to it.

That brings soft laughter from Raven. "I know what you mean. I...might have a list myself."

"You're still working on getting things you need from home?" Soldat asks, a little surprised and maybe a little dismayed. They'd had the impression she'd been here a fairly long time. If she's still working on her list, it's going to take Soldat an awfully long time to get through all the memories and all the keepsakes....

"Not all from home. Things are expensive though, with the point-system." She paused. "I...vanished from the train apparently for a while, although I don't remember it, so my points got reset to the baseline when I arrived."

"You, too?" Soldat frowns. "That's six people who that happened to, now. That I know of. Including the guy who looks like me." And if there's six they know of, there's probably more they don't know of. "That seems like kind of a lot."

"I think there was only 2, counting myself, when I returned, so it must be a recent thing." Raven wondered why that was.

Soldat sure does wonder it, too. "Must've been disorienting. How long were you gone?"

She's really here more to get to know her fellow passengers than to dance. So it's nearly the opposite of what she's observed with this person. "It's quite the event."

Dance party on a train definitely hadn't been on her to do list for the week. The fact that her to do list had a lot of steps consisting of ??? still didn't account for this.

Even dancing, Soldat sometimes needs a break from all the touching. So here they are, getting a break. They offer Hera a little smile. They've seen her about, so there's no staring, no Sarge making happy noises in the background about "aliens". "A lot fancier than I'd expected. But it's nice to dress up sometimes."

"I can barely remember the last time I dressed up." There had been jobs here and there. She probably owns formalwear somewhere. She never really likes those ones, she usually has to pretend to be too decorative. "But getting to know people is worth it."

It's been seventy or eighty years since Soldat got to really dress up, so this is definitely a treat. "Worth it? What, you don't like fancy clothes?" they say, maybe half-teasing.

"It usually means meeting with a certain sort of people." She looks around the room. These are the people she needs to work with. "This is very different from that.

"Ah, you more used to politicians and big money, maybe?" Soldat guesses, not without sympathy. They have... vague recollections of Steve complaining about that. Very vague, more of an impression than anything else. "Well, none of that here. This is just for fun."

"There are a few politicians that aren't so bad." And by that she means MOn Mothma and the Organas and do they really count as normal politicians if they're also the Empire's most wanted? "The rest of the big money... I don't like the way they look at me."

Which is why she went with a pantsuit despite their absence.

"Oh." Soldat makes a face, guessing at the way they might look at her. "I'm sorry, that's got to make this pretty awkward, then. I hope no one here is making you feel uncomfortable." They'll punch anyone who is, if she hasn't already.

"One thing to be said for getting pulled out of your home universe. It lets you escape certain preconceptions." On the one hand, she's the only member of her species and that's a strange feeling. But on the other hand, no one sees her lekku and starts making assumptions about her.

"There is that," Soldat has to agree. "Nobody knows your history. Or your species. Or anything. You can kinda start over." They have mixed feelings about that, themselves: a distinct lack of HYDRA or governments that want to lock them up is better than the opposite, but they've already started over so many times... they just want their people back.

But that's not going to help this gal anyway. "What's your name?"

"Hera Syndulla." Which isn't even on any wanted lists here, how novel.

"I hadn't been looking for a reason to start over." She has a cause she would die for a family she lives for. "But I'll take whatever bright side there is."

"Yeah, I did already have my start over, but I guess it's not bad here, either," Soldat allows. "I'm Soldat." And they're pretty sure Hera, at least, is not going to guess or understand what that word actually means, so they're comfortably safe from potential judgment. Aliens are nice, that way.
