What: Spark being introspective while trying to pretend he's still just... Spark

Spark often claimed that he slept through missions to explain why he was absent from them, so he was free to have Gar or Privateer Pirate show up. But this time he actually had slept. He'd been sleeping a lot since that world with the fake lives, that one that felt so much like a storm from Nautilus.

But he was....

Lonely. That was it. He was lonely.

He was more settled now than he had been after the fish world, but he was still barely eating and avoiding people. Or had been. He just...

He wished Adrien would show up here. Or The Doctor would know who he was. Rose. Nino. Connie. Nita. Kirika. Dominic. Greg. Donovan. Luna. He'd even take Jacob or Gabriel at this point, though each had their issues. Of course if he was bothering with wishing... Quilt.

He shook himself and walked through the train, looking for someone who needed a cat to snuggle with, or tell their problems to. Or a friendly face from Nautilus, since none from his real home or Paris were here...

He put his paws over his face in frustration. "You were cracking jokes so well a bit ago, what happened? Was that just to break the ice?"

"Sorry...I'm, ah, I know I'm not much fun. But, uh...the jokes about my dead adoptive father, kind of...hurt?"

He huffed a bit. This part would be easier as Gar, but he was Spark and had to keep playing the role.

"Donovan says that the best way to honor someone's memory is to smile and laugh. It's why we had a party instead of a funeral after the war. So everyone could laugh and smile and talk about all the things they loved about the people who were gone."

"...must be a cultural thing," he said quietly.

"There have to be some good things you remember that talking about make you smile."

Link considered that. "He'd tell us stories. He'd help us when we'd get into arguments with one another...sometimes he'd even stop the others from bullying me."

"Yeah?" Give him more.

[sevenyearsasleep]

"He kept us safe from monsters. Until Ganondorf invaded the forest, that is. He was incredibly ancient, incredibly wise, and just made everyone feel safe."

"How did he keep you safe?"

“Magic. He was a guardian spirit, and had influence over the part of the forest where we lived,” Link explained.

"Okay, I have a plan. You were Ascended, right? Why don't we visit home, you can meet Donvan." And learn how to tell a story.

“Why?”

It wasn’t that he was incapable of story telling, but, he was guarded, not sure if he was being set up for more teasing about his late adoptive father.

"Why not?"

“Because my brother and current adoptive father would worry if I left without a good reason.”

"So they can come with."

“But—-why? Does someone need help there?”

"Yeah." You.

Besides he missed his first family.

“But…you don’t even trust me enough to be honest with me about who you are.”

[death_from_above]

"I'm Spark," he said, simply. "Besides, getting to know someone's family is part of getting to know them. Donovan is my human's father. I was a kitten in his house."

“That’s not what I meant and you know it.” Link chewed his lip.

“I can’t risk Clef and Shadow in a place where something seems this off. For all I know it’s a joke at my expense, which…fine. But, I’m not dragging people I love into it.”

"Then tell them you'll be back later, and just come yourself. It isn't a trap. Can't say it isn't a joke, because anything can be."

“I’m not risking causing a flaw in your world for a joke, Spark.”

"It's not a flaw, just a visit!" he protested. "You'd love it there. The Winter Archipelago has the best fish. And they're closed to most humans now, so you'll get to see things that my humans can't anymore."

“You’ll have to use Bending to disguise yourself, since your sleeping self is there.”

Link half-smiled. “That’s one of the reasons I haven’t gone back to Hyrule for some time. I don’t want to be a stranger in my own home.”

"Nah, there are lots of orange cats on my world. I don't need you to Bend me a disguise." Plus he is totally planning on outing himself as soon as he gets there anyway. Not like he could keep a secret from Dominic or Miranda. Even without his powers, Dominic was too sharp to be fooled that easily.
