It was late, well after midnight. And sleep was not happening tonight. 

Conan had dragged himself out of bed and made his way to the kitchen where he claimed one of the tables. He sits there, clutching at the strongest cup of coffee he could make, and stares moodily out the window.

"You gotta learn to chill." Kaito waves a hand at him.

"I mean, we'll get back eventually, and the more you stress, the more grumpy you get."

"I'll stick with being grumpy, thanks."

He didn't see any of his problems going away any time soon. Getting home was only one of them.

"Ulcers." He says again dryly and yawns around his cup.

"Want a game of cards or something?"

Conan gives him a suspicious look.

"Poker?"

They would both be cheating, of course. It made the game more interesting.

"Can you think of anything else to play at this time of night?"

Of course! It wouldn't be a proper game if they didn't both cheat.

"Well, I did see an UNO set I think."

"I vote for Uno. Poker is starting to get predictable."

"Uno it is then. Shall we say we play it properly first?" IE no cheating.

[deductiongeek]

"How many rounds do you think we can do before one of us gets bored?"

[stealsyourheart]

"One." He admits. "But hey, not cheating is a challenge too, right?"

For them? It might be more of a challenge than cheating was.

"One round, then," he agrees.

Basically they are the worst.

"You wanna deal?"

"Toss them over."

He sets his drink to the side.

Kaito leans back, somehow not toppling off the chair or sending it crashing to the floor, and snags the card pack to toss to Conan.

"Let's play~"

He catches the pack of cards, shuffles and deals.

Kaito rights his chair and moves his cup out of the way, accepting his hand with the usual shark grin.

"Do you want to start or shall I?"

"I dealt, so you can start."

He'd offer to flip for it, but there was no way he was trusting Kaito with a coin flip.

"Fair enough, let's start this ball rolling~ Draw four!"

been years since I played this, trying to remember how game play went.

He draws the cards, adds them to his hand, and scans them briefly.

"Skip." And he lays a red four down on the discard pile.

"Rude~" He sings cheerfully, and drops a blue four.

"Says the one that started with a draw 2." He drops a green four.

"I didn't say you couldn't be rude, I'm just commenting~" Kaito's grin never wavers, as he drops a green five.

Conan drops a wild card on the pile.

"I'm changing it to blue."

[stealsyourheart]

"Meeeeeeeean~" He laments, and reaches for the pile to take another card.

Conan's expression was rather smug.

"Again, you started it."

[stealsyourheart]

He sighs deeply and tosses a wildcard down.

"Why are we friends again? Red."
